Theodore P. Wischhusen

After a short illness, Theodore “Ted” Wischhusen passed peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2026, and returned to the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Ted was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on June 12, 1942, and lived there until his high school years, when his parents, Theodore and Blanche Wischhusen, decided it was time for a change. His father, an employee of Lockheed Martin, obtained a transfer to Littleton, Colorado, where Ted graduated from Littleton High School in 1960.

Ted attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado, before enrolling in the Denver Naval Reserve Center. He was stationed aboard the USS Robinson. During his service, he was presented with a letter of commendation by Captain John H. Stucki, Commanding Officer, for his “outstanding performance while attached to Naval Reserve DDG-12.” He also served as a reservist in the U.S. Air Force and received training at Williams Field in Mesa, Arizona.

After working in the insurance field with Pacific Mutual and Capital One, Ted relocated to the Tempe-Mesa, Arizona, area in 1984. He enrolled at Northern Arizona University to obtain his teaching credentials and briefly taught at Lamson College and in the Mesa Unified School District before teaching Economics and American Government at Mountain View High School in Mesa. He remained there until his retirement in 2012.

Ted was well known for generously giving his time to others. He volunteered at numerous school sporting events at Mountain View High School, running the scorer’s table at the basketball games and working as a member of the first down marker “chain gang” at the varsity football games. Ted also assisted at the 16th hole during the annual Waste Management Golf Tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona. An avid golfer, golf was one of his greatest pleasures. While living in Colorado, he also served on a search and rescue team.

Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Karen (Kump-Pepper) Wischhusen, on March 26, 2013. He leaves behind his twin sons, Peter Theodore and William Hughes Wischhusen; grandchildren Siena (Apollo), Alec, and River Wischhusen; Jana Bridgeford, the mother of his grandchildren; sister Sigrid Anne Settle; niece Tanya Amber Settle; nephew Chad Eugene Settle; and stepchildren Christopher Pepper, Lori Simpson, and Ken Pepper.

Ted will be deeply missed by his longtime partner, Jane Di Giulio, her four children and nine grandchildren, as well as the many friends who became an important part of his life.

Ted will be remembered fondly by his colleagues at Mountain View High School, members of his Lindsay Ward family in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his golfing partners, and the many friends who had the privilege of knowing him.
