About Dr. Subodh Sumanlal Shroff
Dr. Subodh S. Shroff was a caring husband, father, physician and friend. He left this world peacefully and surrounded by family on May 23, 2021 at age 71.
Subodh was born in Baroda, India on December 7, 1949 to parents Pramila and Sumanlal, and was a beloved brother to his siblings, Parimal, Sadhana, Avani, and Snehal. Coming from humble beginnings, he studied tirelessly to become a physician and improve his station in life. After earning his MD at MS University in Baroda, he immigrated to the United States in 1975 for his Internal Medicine residency in Chicago. Dr. Shroff then opened a private practice in River Forest, Illinois where he specialized in primary care and geriatrics for many years. He was regarded for his vast medical knowledge and the extensive time he spent to provide thorough and individualized care. Well loved by his patients, he was always receiving gifts from them and was often invited to their family events. Dr. Shroff moved to Gilbert, Arizona in 2008, where he continued his medical career and later retired.
Nothing was more important to Subodh than his role as a family man. He was a very proud father to his three daughters, Jennifer, Monica, and Erica. Despite his rigorous work schedule, he always made time to attend their field trips, help with their homework, read them fairy tales, and take them on family vacations. He was very affectionate and did not miss an opportunity to tell them how much he loved and was proud of them. Seeing the impact their father had on his patients throughout their childhood, his daughters were all moved to seek careers in healthcare. In recent years, Subodh became a loving grandfather to his three grandsons, Liam, Aiden, and Colin. He will forever be their role model for hard work, a positive attitude, and the importance of family.
Subodh was a devoted husband to his wife, Vibhuti. He showered her with love, writing her songs and bringing her chocolates and stargazer lilies (his favorite flower) on every occasion. They enjoyed traveling, socializing with friends, singing karaoke, and attending concerts and comedy shows. He loved eating her delicious food and helping clean up the kitchen after meals. After his retirement, they spent many happy hours together, playing cards and Rummikub, going for walks, and exploring Arizona with daytrips to scenic mountain towns.
Everyone Subodh met instantly became family to him. Adored by friends in India, Chicago, Phoenix, and beyond, he will always be remembered for his magnetic smile, his lyrical talents, and his desire to help others. Throughout his career and even after retirement, he always went out of his way to help others with medical advice and care. He had a true passion for poetry and music, especially Indian classical music. He was well known for the thoughtful poems he wrote and sang to family and friends on all of life’s occasions.
Subodh faced the challenges of life with courage, faith, optimism. He was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
