About Steven James Perkins
Steven James Perkins, age 69, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away August 20, 2021 while surrounded by family. He was born to Roy Perkins and Betye Jordan. He attended Westwood High School in Mesa, Arizona and graduated with a Masters of Tax Accounting from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He married Barbara Johnson.
Steve spent his 40 year career at SWD Urethane and Arizona Foam and Spray. He loved outdoor pursuits with his brother and sons. He served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Steve is survived by his wife, Barbara, their five children, Steven “Jim” Perkins Jr. (Laurel Owens), Kamber Sonne (Lee), Scott Perkins (Kaci Salmon), Amie Hancock (Scott) and Ashley Garner (Ren), twenty-four of his twenty-five grandchildren, his parents, and four siblings, Larry, Greg, Shellie Willis, and Sandy Mathews, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 6-8pm at Bunker’s University Chapel 3529 E. University Drive, Mesa, Arizona 85213 and at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 5350 E. McLellan, Mesa, Arizona 85205 on Friday, August 27, 2021 from 9-9:45am. Funeral services will then be held beginning at 10:00am. He will be laid to rest in the Mesa Cemetery.

Through high school, then as BYU roommates, then neighbors with young families, and golf, fishing and hunting buddies through all these years, I have considered Steve Perkins my best friend. The positive impact of Steve’s example and influence in my life cannot be overstated. He has left a big hole. I still have the Big Mac wrapper he sent to me from a (authorized, I hope) trip to San Diego from his mission in Mexico when I was on mine in Argentina. Barbara and kids, my deepest sympathies.

I met Steve in early 2016 when I started at SWD. He was always smiling and incredibly neat, nothing was ever out of place. Jim, and the rest of your family are in mine and Ellen’s thoughts.

My Perkins Friends, My condolences to each of you and the family. I too was privilege to work with Steve for many years. He was not only a member of my management team but more importantly I counted him a friend. I will miss the passing of a friend but realize he is answering a call from The Lord to fulfill yet another mission that perhaps only he can perform. So, it’s not goodbye as much as it is “God be with you til we meet again.”

Dear Perkins Family I am so sad to hear of Steve’s passing. I have always admired Steve’s character, his business sense and had the pleasure to enjoy many golf and dinner outings with him. He was generous to me in business and in our personal lives and I will truly miss what I thought would be many more chances to see him. My sincere condolences to Barb and the Perkins family. Both my father and I had been fortunate to have worked with Steve. He is a man of integrity and he led by example. Still vividly remembers our conversation when flying to a job site. He was much more than a partner, he was an outstanding compassionate mentor. Rest in peace and we will all miss you!!!

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Steve. Its a sad loss to us all. Such an amazing man who opened doors for my husband and I to succeed. I have known Brother Perkins for almost 20 yrs. He and his wife, Barbara were my home teachers. They have always been there for us. I am so grateful for that time. Heavenly Father calls home those whom he needs. He will forever be in our hearts.

All my love to the Perkins family. Steve was so kind to me while I was in the ward for a few years. He lead by example. I love all the Perkins clan and am so happy and proud to be related (my grandma is Ida Perkins).

One of my favorite memories of Steve was the summer we played in the world juniors at Torrey Pines. What a good time with Steve, Gary and Scott! A great golfer and an all around good friend. My deepest sympathy to the Perkins family.
