About Sigvard Benno “Ben” Johanson
Sigvard Benno “Ben” Johanson, 80, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2019 in Mesa, Arizona. He was born to Sigvard and Fanny Johanson in Eskilstuna, Sweden in 1938. Ben lived a long, happy life full of love and laughter.
Ben immigrated with his parents to the United States at the age of 10, and moved to Salt Lake City, UT. The family moved to Idaho Falls, ID when he was 11 years old. While there, Ben helped his father with his bricklaying business. The family moved back to Salt Lake City one year later, where he continued to help with bricklaying. As a teenager, his family moved to California where his father became too ill to work. Due to his father’s illness, Ben was pulled out of school to help support his parents and siblings by working as a delivery driver. He was able to obtain his high school diploma while living in CA.
Ben started his driving career as a city bus driver and then as a tour bus driver, driving cross country to Church Historical sights. He then became a long haul semi-truck driver, driving for over 40 years. Ben “never worked a day in his life,” because he enjoyed his job and viewed it as a vacation every day.
Ben also served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Norway for 3 years. He was married to his beautiful wife, Inger Johansson, for 51 years. He was a perfect example of a good husband and father.
Ben and Inger retired to Arizona in 2006, where they enjoyed their last 13 years together. Ben is survived by his wife, Inger; children, Jill (Jason), Aaron, Jared (Rachel), Julie (Sam), Holly, and Zane; and 14 grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, March 22, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 1280 West Del Rio Street, Chandler, Arizona 85224, with a visitation beginning one hour prior to the service, at 10:00am.
