Robert Edward Thompson Junior affectionately known as “Punchie” age 75 passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, in Mesa, Arizona. He was born May 21st, 1951, in Bluefield West Virginia to the late Robert Edward Thompson Sr and Eloise Thompson.
Robert was educated in the Akron Public Schools and graduated in 1971 from John R Buchtel High. Following high school, he entered a four-year apprenticeship program in operating engineering and proudly earned his four-year certification as a crane operator. Robert dedicated more than 35 years to his career before retiring.
While Robert was accomplished in his professional life, one of his greatest passions was music. At the age of 12 he learned to play the organ and went on to learn and master several other keyboard instruments. His pride and joy were his beloved Hammond B-3 Organ. Music was a lifelong part of Robert’s identity, and he formed and performed with multiple bands in Ohio and Arizona sharing his love for music alongside his younger brother and oldest son.
Those who knew Robert will remember his humor quick wit, unforgettable family stories, and knowledge of the family history. He had a gift for conversation and genuinely enjoyed talking with people, meeting new people and making connections wherever he went. Robert was also a devoted Cleveland Browns fan and proudly supported his favorite team.
Robert was proceeded in death by his loving parents, Robert EdwardThompson Sr. and Eloise, Thompson, his grandparents, Joe and Juanita Thompson and George and Betty Dodson and his most beloved daughter Kyra E Thompson, and his recently deceased son, Robert DeMarco Thompson. He leaves to cherish his memory, his partner of 20 years Ramona Munoz of Mesa Arizona, his son & daughter in Love Pastor Stephon (Tiara) Sanders of Cleveland, Ohio, his only beloved brother Anthony "Tipper” Thompson of Akron, Ohio his sisters, Donna Thompson, Deborah Thompson -Gordon, Barbara Thompson- Thomas all of Akron Ohio seven Daughter in-love Donita Pitts-Thompson grandchildren Jermaine Pitts, Robert D Thompson Jr. Isaiah Thompson , DeMarco Cannon, Stephon Sanders Jr. Tezlynn Sanders, and Sevieohn Sanders, all of Cleveland, Ohio, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews extended family members and friends. Robert leave behind the legacy of love, laughter, music, family, friendships, and unforgettable stories. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
