About Melanie Raquel Halona
Melanie Raquel Halona, of Sawmill, Arizona, passed away on October 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and loved ones. She was born on November 11, 1971, in Provo, Utah, to Wallace Halona Jr. and Nora Damon Halona. Ms. Halona was raised on the Navajo Reservation and, for a period, attended school in St. George, Utah, where she was blessed to live with the caring Leishman family (Truman and Carol and their children) who became an important part of her life. She ultimately graduated from Window Rock High School and subsequently pursued her post-secondary education at Utah Tech University, historically known as Dixie College.
Known affectionately as “Mellow,” Melanie will be remembered for her laughter, her wonderful sense of humor, and the love she shared with those around her. Her presence brought warmth and joy to her family, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Melanie always said her greatest achievement was having and raising her two children, Mikeila and Damien. They were her pride and joy as she was a devoted and hardworking single mother who worked tirelessly to provide for them. She was never shy about expressing her affection, always calling out to her beloved “Bubbs/Bubbas” and “Sons,” a special term of endearment that reflected the deep bond she shared with her children.
Though Melanie may not have always recognized the strength and resilience she carried within herself, those who loved her saw it every day. She faced life's challenges with determination and continued to put her children first. Her beauty extended far beyond her outward appearance; it was reflected in her heart, her sacrifices, and the unwavering love she gave to her family.
Family was at the heart of who Melanie was. She proudly represented the Halona family at family reunions, serving as a familiar and cherished presence who helped keep family connections strong, especially the time she spent with her nephews. Melanie took great pride in her Navajo heritage and traditions as she instilled in her children the importance of family, cultural identity, and honoring traditions passed down through generations. She understood the value of staying connected to one's roots and made sure those lessons remained an important part of her children's lives.
Melanie is survived by her two children, Mikeila Halona and Damien Halona; her father, Wallace Halona, Jr. (Amparo Halona); her siblings, Tonia Halona (Larry Turner), Ron Halona, Kristina Halona, and ReNae Halona (Ryan Salisbury); including her nephews Trey Plummer, Jake Plummer, Ceylem Plummer, and Ron Jayden Halona, Jr. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nora Damon Halona; and her brother Jared Brian Halona. She also leaves behind extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.
Mellow, you will be deeply missed and forever loved. Your laughter will echo in our memories, your love will remain in our hearts, your legacy will live on with your children and your place in our family will never be forgotten. Until we meet again, may you rest peacefully, surrounded by the love you so freely gave to others.
