About Marvin John Loar
Marvin John Loar 81, died peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones October 20, 2019. Marvin was born in Farmington, NM on January 8, 1938. He married his sweetheart, Janice Christensen Loar on December 19, 1961 for time and all eternity in the Mesa, AZ Temple. He was loved and adored by all who knew him. He lived a life full of faith, sacrifice, service and love. He will be greatly missed. Marvin is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Janice Christensen Loar and his sons Shaun David Loar and Shannon Mark Loar. He is survived by five children. Sheldon Lee (Sherry) Loar, Sherwin Von (Tylene) Loar, Shane Merrill (Laura) Loar, Shalynn Kenneth (Allison) Loar, and Sherri Ann (Shane) Merkley. He is also survived by 22 adoring grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, October 25, 2019 from 7-9pm at the Bunker Funeral Home, 3529 E. University Dr. Mesa, AZ 85213. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 11am with visitation from 10-10:30am prior to services at the LDS church building, located at 41426 N. Barnes Parkway, Queen Creek, AZ 85140.

To the Amazing and Loving Loar Family, my heart is with you at this time with the passing of your dear Dad. I knew him best through knowing you and the fine caliber of people your parents have raised. I’m glad to call you all, Sherwin, whose especially near to me, and sweet Sherri to Me and my sister, our friends. The light of a parent’s spirit is passed on and through their children. Your parents truly left their mark on the world with all of you kids. Dear Loar family, I was saddened to hear from Steve Cris yesterday of your father’s passing. You may remember me as Glen Palmer’s wife, Karol. Marv and Jan knee Glen from Farmington and we’re our attendants at our wedding. Each of you kids were born about the same time as ours and we, Jan and I, were comparing notes regularly. The last time I saw Marv was when Dewey and Buddy brought him to see Glen just months before Glen passed. What great friends your parents were/are. I hope I can get to see some of you sometime. I had surgery 2 weeks ago and can’t travel yet but know I have you in my prayers and will especially be there in Spirit Saturday. Love, peace and comfort to you.

What a great example he was of living a life of service mixed with humor! His knowledge of and ability to articulate the gospel message was amazing, when Marv explained a gospel principle it made more sense! He will be greatly missed! Onward and Upward our dear friend❤️❤️❤️

All my love. I can’t help but feel to rejoice on this occasion rather than to mourn. Marv and Jan are together again without their braces and earthly shackles. I see them dancing together to celebrate the success of their family and their earthly lives—leaders and guides for us all true end. I admonish their family to remember them with love, and pride. They have certainly always given me support, love and good advice—even though I never knew it at the time. My deepest admiration and even envy to their children for such a heritage that they have. I’ll love you all forever. Jan, save me a dance.

I just found out “Elder Loar” passed. He and his wife changed my life when they were missionaries at the Utah State Prison in Gunnison. He gave me a copy of his book THE ETERNAL DRAMA which I was reading today and the thought occurred to me to look him up. I was sad to hear he passed but happy to know he is with Janice. Since Prison and the classes they taught me about the gospel I was married, had kids, went through the temple and changed my life. He will always have a special spot in my heart.
