Dad loved the outdoors. It seemed to take him back to his younger days of growing up in Clay Springs. He felt that his childhood was an idyllic life. He often spoke of how he loved to roam the hills, usually riding his pony and gathering the cows at night. He was an avid hiker and once hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim and then back again.
Dad worked at a young age as a truck driver, hauling cut timber and lumber. Later after moving to Mesa, he worked in Phoenix at National Gypsum, a factory that manufactured plaster and wallboard for the building industry. Eventually he became the supervisor of the Quality Control Department.
At church, Dad served in a number of important callings in the ward. He served in the Bishopric several times as well as the scouting and young men’s programs. He was a high councilor and High Priest Group leader of the ward. He was a faithful servant in his callings. After retiring from work, mom and dad served two genealogy missions together. First in Raleigh, North Carolina and again in Australia. They also served in both the Mesa, Arizona and the Gilbert, AZ temples for a total of 17 years.
