Harry Douglas Theabold

Harry Douglas Theabold-Mostly known by his friends and relatives as “Lucky” quietly passed away in the early morning hours of July 30, 2026. He was born in Gallup, New Mexico on September 5th, 1936. He was the middle child and only boy. He lived in Alison, New Mexico and Gallup in his youth and high school years. His parents were owners of several restaurants in the surrounding areas and Lucky and his sisters could be found helping with chores required of them after school at the different locations. Lucky was from the era of “cardboard’ in the bottom of your shoes to make them last just a little bit longer. Times were hard and every little thing helped with saving a penny. After high school graduation, in 1954, Lucky, his parents and younger sister moved to Show Low, Arizona where Lucky met his sweetheart-Renae Owens. Smitten by her charm they were sealed in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple in November of 1956. Lucky and Renae moved to the valley and Lucky found work in the construction industry landing at Tanner United Metro for 20 plus years. During this time Lucky and Renae lived in Scottsdale welcomed 4 daughters into their home-Monica, Shaunna, Kimberly and Rhonda. He and Renae also owned an A & W in Phoenix for 7 years. Something must have been right in the rootbeer for after an 8 year sabbatical-heaven opened its door and a son was born-Justin. And then another son-Brandon. 4 older sisters were thrilled to help mother those baby boys! After their births, Lucky and Renae moved to Mesa and lived in their home for 48 years.

Lucky was an avid outdoorsman with hunting being a favorite pastime and collecting guns and reloading bullets to fill those pastimes. Lucky at one time even had a license to make and sell ammunition. Three mornings before he passed he had asked a daughter to look up some specific calibrations for ‘Brass” and “gun powder”. He LOVED the White Mountains and his trips scouting and hunting for deer, elk, turkey, you name it…he was there for hunt and the camaraderie of those around the campfire! A special part of being in the mountains was the dutch oven cooking. He LOVED chicken and biscuits and pineapple upside down cake from a dutch oven. He and Renae were quite the team when it came to picnics or meals in the desert or forest!

Lucky was involved heavily in Scouting and helping young men earn their badges. He was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was also a life long member of the National Rifle Association. Lucky and Renae even did what many did in the 80’s-Tried doing the Amway business. They met many new friends and even traveled to Virginia and California for the Amway conventions! He loved John Wayne! Clint Eastwood! And Quigley (if you know-you know)!

Lucky is survived by his daughters-Shaunna Krieg (Doug), Kim Anderson (Greg) and Rhonda Johnson (Jeff). Sons-Justin Theabold (Melanie) and Brandon Theabold (Jennifer). 34 grandchildren and 11 bonus grandchildren. And at last count 84 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. His quiver was full! His wife of 59 years-Renae Owens passed in 2015 and his daughter Monica Kivett (Stan) passed in 1997.

A private family Graveside service will be held on August 8th at the Mesa Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life Party will be held at 12:00 NOON also on August 8th. YOU ALL ARE INVITED!
