About Delbert C. Carvell
Delbert C. Carvell was born April 2, 1936 at Washburn, ND to Clayton & Ora Carvell. He passed away on May 28 th in Mesa, Arizona. He graduated from Fargo High in 1954. Del joined the National Guard at age 17 and held 2 jobs during High School. Del’s career led him to many jobs before he found his niche. He was Civil Defense Director, State Health Director, then became a federal employee with the Center of Disease Control as a public health officer retiring after 35+ years.
He also retired from the National Guard with 20+ years and spent some time with the Air Force as a communications officer. Del was a giving and loving man, always helping others, and his friends were many.
He married Marlys Smith Haisley on December 28, 1991 at Washburn, ND. He leaves 2 children: Steve & Karen from a previous marriage & 4 grandchildren, his wife Marlys & 2 step-children: Larry (Kristy) Haisley, Merlyn (Carter) Vanderwal, 4 step grandchildren, and 4 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 step brother.
Del was placed at rest in the Veterans Cemetery in ND.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 15th at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University Dr. in Mesa, Arizona.
