Obituary

Brenda Sue Phelps, a dearly loved Sister, Mother, Grandmother, and Wife, went to celebrate Christmas with her heavenly family on December 24th, 2025 at the age of 74.

Brenda was born August 15, 1951 in Lindsay, California to Josephine and William Neeley.

She was met at the pearly gates by her parents, and her husband Leamon Phelps. Brenda is survived by her brother Floyd Neeley, her daughter Vickie Hoy, and many related and spiritually-related children and grandchildren who love her dearly.

Brenda was a jack-of-all trades, a strong and devoted woman who could patch up physical as well as emotional wounds in those she cared for. She loved and was skilled at crafting. Enjoying everything from painting and sewing, to beading and jewelry making. Brenda’s other hobbies included reading, traveling, and playing online video games with friends, family, and found family. She worked in fields such as dentistry, cosmetology, and bookkeeping, and was a caregiver to many family members and friends. Brenda was often known as the ‘block mom’. There was rarely a time the neighborhood kids or family children were not in her yard or house. Brenda was the kind of woman who made a house a home and brought smiles and warmth to all those who surrounded her. She loved deeply and with great passion and is missed.

Funeral services for Brenda will be Tuesday, January 13th, 2026 at 1:30 PM. She will be laid to rest surrounded by love and light and family.

I met Brenda when I dated her brother. We were often at her house. We’d stop by after dancing for a few hours for some relaxing and fun. We’d play games or just talk. When I was going to be in my brothers wedding, she made a “sash/belt” of laces and ribbons. It was beautiful. I still have it and it is about 20 years old now. Then her brother and I parted ways and I still found myself at Brenda’s house off and on. A few years after parting with her brother, I had to ask him to take the rest of his property, including a car away. We agreed on a date and time. I was still single at the time and wasn’t sure how the encounter would come to pass. Then, unexpectedly, Brenda arrives and helped oversee everything and all was well. She even arranged what was my first cruise to Ensenada. Including travel to and from the ship in a limo. That was great fun! Time passes as time does, and I met the love of my life. While I saw Brenda with Doug on occasion, I saw her less and less. But I never forgot her. I fortunate to observe how she cared for so may who had no one to care for for them. She had such a big heart. I thought of her a lot even though I rarely saw her . Oddly enough (or not), we got in touch again over Facebook. We discovered she lived in Payson, as did my brother! We visited with my brother over a period of about a week over Thanksgiving. She said we should get together. We did in 2024. It was one of those time like you never were apart. It was magic to see her and “little Vickie” again, and to catch up. I’m so glad we got that time together. My heart breaks for not making more time for her. I will so miss her. I loved Brenda and I remember all the good times we had and what a lovely and caring woman she was.

I finally found the pix of Brenda & I at our 50th BHS reuniom (10-12-2019). It was so good seeing her that night. We each had our daughters in August 1971 abt 5 or so days apart. It was a surprise to us both but felt it bro’t us closer together. We hv been miles apart, unfortunately, but hv tried to keep in touch over the years. I will miss her deeply. May the Lord bless & keep her in HIS arms. My heart goes out to her family & friends.
