Obituary

Anthony Wayne Vakerics, Sr., 83, of Casa Grande, AZ passed March 30, 2023. He was born Sept. 17, 1939 in Fort Wayne, IN. He was the son of the late Michael and Rose (Mascenik) Vakerics. He is preceded in death by sister Darlene (Bob) Rankin, Brother Michael (Molly) Vakerics, and son Anthony Wayne Vakerics Jr. (Tony).

Wayne had his own carpet installation business for many years and then retired to sunny Arizona. He enjoyed camping, gardening, woodworking, and model building.

Wayne leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Linda (Chaney) Vakerics.

He is survived by his son Scott (Cheri) Vakerics, his daughter Theresa (Jerry) Gollihar, step-son Jeffrey (Yolanda) France, step-son Scott France, five grandsons, a great grandson and a great grand daughter. He also 2 nephews, and a niece.

A memorial service will be held in Arizona at a later date.

We cherish all the fun times we had with Wayne & Linda, even through the past winter when he wasn’t feeling well. He and Lyle put our wonderful wooden floors in the house we are now living and we are so grateful for his expertise. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family for comfort and peace.

Because of a Google search I just learned of Wayne’s passing. In the mid 60’s my parents moved back to Fort Wayne. On that block were seven kids that I grew up with. Tony, Scott, and Theresa were three of them. Wayne was one of the neighbor Dad’s. I remember him being so fun loving, he always had us cracking up! He was an amazing craftsman. I go through the old neighborhood and the house he painted fifty years ago still looks like he painted it yesterday. I was about twelve or thirty when he asked me if I would like to go to work with him and learn flooring. Heck yeah! What an amazing mentor he was to me, and a blast to be around. I regret that I hadn’t looked him up to say high, but so happy he continued to live a good life. I love the picture of him and reminds of the Mr. Vackerics “Wayne” that I had the pleasure of knowing. I wish you all the best, neighbor kid Stew.
