Obituary

Anthony Montano, age 90 passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025. He was surrounded by his loved ones.

Anthony was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 5,1934. He was the youngest of thirteen brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife Joan. His three children; Son, John Paul, daughter-in-law Mary Jane, Daughter, Jo Ann Berger, son-in-law Tommy and Son Anthony and his fiancé Martha. His 7 grandchildren ; Brenden, Kayla, James, Julia, Tyler, Sean, and Liván. Brother-in-law to Rosemarie,Rudy and Bernice. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Anthony was a Korean War Veteran and Army Master Sgt. who retired at the age of 60. He also spent many years in the floor covering trade where he met life-long friends. Anthony was a kind soul who had a smile and laugh that was infectious. He cared deeply for his family and friends and welcomed all into his home. He never hesitated to lend a hand or help anyone in need. He often said how lucky he was to have had so many special people in his life who loved and cared for him.

In his spare time, Anthony was happiest playing cards with family and friends, watching the horse races with his family, or cheering on the NY Mets.

He will be forever remembered and missed by all who knew him. We are blessed to have had him in our lives. May he rest easy until we meet again.

Anthony will be interred at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona with full Military Honors on Tuesday April 29,2025

I met Tony thru my brother Mike as we all played in a softball league in Michigan. Tony was our pitcher and was as steady as they go. And it was always fun to watch him on the base paths!! We were able to see Tony and Joan a few years ago at Mike and Gayle’s place in Vegas, having dinner and playing cards. RIP Tony, and thanks for those good times!! David and Patricia Joseph

Uncle Anthony was a shining example to me and my family from a young age, as a caring, loving, welcoming, warm and fair person. I cannot ever remember him saying anything derogatory about anyone in my life, he always emphasized the “Good” in the person.He was always there for me if I ever needed him, no matter what. The Bible describes My Uncle Anthony as” A Peacemaker”…Blessed are the Peacemakers, For they shall be called “Sons of God”! He was very special to me and my family, and he will be greatly missed, until that faithful day when we who are in Christ will ALL be reconciled!!!

UNCLE ANTHONY.. How can I begin, we do go way back… I’ve always felt unconditional love from you, and Aunt Joan of course. Whenever we were together it was always a comfortable, caring loving time. That says a lot about how you made me feel.whether it was in Brooklyn or Lindenhurst or Detroit or Vegas, we were always in each others life. I remember our great conversation about James Cagney☺️you even lent me your book! There are so many great lasting memories my family and I have of you .. never to be forgotten, always remembered with love and laughter, and caring. I love you uncle and will always treasure the Memory of each and every time we were together. My father always said you were the best of them all, and he was so right! Always there , through all the years! He loved you so much as do we.

Tony always had a smile on his face and I enjoyed playing softball with him specially when he pitched, win or lose we would get together at my brother house Mike and Gayle and barbecue and talk about the game not a speeders on the base but always fun to watch, Tony Tony Tony I used to call him while doing a pitching motion. A great guy to have as a teammate. RIP Tony and God Bless Joan and his family. Ray & Suzanne

In 1966, my boyfriend (now husband) took me over to meet his good friend, Tony, and his wife, Joan. From that moment on, we have been lifelong friends … family, actually. Tony taught Mike the carpet trade, while Joan and I raised our children. Tony was more than a friend and family; he was a mentor. Tony taught us, and everyone he met, through his actions. His humor and laughter, his humility and modesty, his love of family, friends and life. During good times and bad, you could always solicit his one-of-a-kind smile; because he could always find something to smile about, laugh about, or simply be grateful for. We will miss that smile and laughter; we will miss the card games; we will miss our meals together; but mostly, we will simply miss him.

I want to take a moment to remember my Uncle Anthony—my grandpa’s brother and the man I was named after. Anytime my parents told us we were going to visit him, my siblings and I would light up with excitement. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome and at ease. One of my favorite memories is from a family trip to Las Vegas to visit my grandparents. I’ll never forget it. My parents told us we were going to see Uncle Anthony and Aunt Joan, and walking into their home felt like a scene from an old Italian movie. Everyone was hugging, kissing each other on the cheek, laughing, and sharing stories. We ate amazing food and spent the day swimming in the pool, just enjoying each other’s company. It’s one of those childhood memories I’ll always treasure. I really wish I had made more of an effort to spend time with him, to hear his military stories and to get to know him even better. Being named after him is something I’m proud of, and I’ll always hold on to the memories I have.

Uncle Anthony was an extraordinary man! His smile was beautiful, infectious, and would light up the room! I could always see my grandpa in him when we talked and shared stories! You could feel the Montano family Italian style whenever we went to see aunt Joan and uncle Anthony! Like my brother Anthony my most favorite memory was when my siblings and I went to their house in Las Vegas and went swimming all day it was the best and happiest time I could remember! Filled with love and pride in our family. United and strong. I also had the best time when I went to see uncle Anthony, Aunt Joan, and Joanne in Arizona, I wanted to bring them nothing but the best Italian snacks! Of course I got some desert too, cannoli’s, uncle Anthony was so excited about those. It was an amazing time reminiscing about memories of when I was little and fun stories about my grandfather, uncle Anthony’s brother and my grandmother! I named my son Michael Anthony Montano which is a very strong name! After my brother Anthony Michael Montano who was named after Uncle Anthony! I love you Uncle Anthony and Aunt Joan I will cherish all the memories ❤️
