A Life Remembered

Obituary

Jean E. Porter Schnebly, age 75, passed away peacefully at her home on June 11, 2026. She was born on January 14, 1951, in Tacoma, Washington, to Joseph Verle Porter and Emily Beth Worlton Porter. She lived a full and faithful life devoted to her family, her faith, and service to others.

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fredrick Dwight Schnebly; her parents, Joseph Verle Porter and Emily Beth Worlton Porter; and her twin sisters, Mary and Martha. She is survived by six siblings, ten children, numerous grandchildren, and many others whose lives were blessed by her love and example.

Jean spent her childhood in Syracuse, Utah and attended elementary school nearby in West Point, Utah. She later attended North Davis Junior High School and graduated from Clearfield High School. In 1969, she began attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

In 1973, Jean served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Venezuela. Following her mission, she returned to BYU, where she met Fredrick Dwight Schnebly. They were married on June 4, 1975, and built a loving home centered on faith, family, and service. Jean earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, but her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She devoted herself to raising and homeschooling her children.

Music was one of Jean’s greatest gifts and joys. She loved playing the piano and singing hymns with her family. Many cherished memories were made as family members gathered around the piano while she played hymns and favorite songs. She also enjoyed singing in her church choir and accompanying others on the piano.

Jean loved spending time with her family, especially playing board games and card games together. She delighted in holding and caring for her grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to be with them. She also enjoyed grocery shopping at Harvest Foods, later known as American Discount Foods.
