Robert LeRoy Maready, 79, of Mesa, AZ died peacefully of natural causes on October 12, 2021.  He lived life fully alongside his beloved wife, Ann.  This year LeRoy and Ann would be celebrating 57 years of marriage.  Always most important to LeRoy, was his love of his family.

LeRoy was born at home on December 27, 1941, on his family’s small farm in rural North Carolina. He was the first of two children born to his parents, Robert Franklin Maready and Effie Olene Sholar Maready.  After graduating from Wallace High School in 1960, LeRoy enrolled at Brigham Young University, where he made many lasting friendships.  He interrupted his studies to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany, gaining many more dear friends.  While at BYU he met and courted Ann Hastings, considered by many to be one of the sweetest and prettiest girls around. 

LeRoy and Ann wed in November 1964 and were the proud parents of five wonderful children, 21 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, born this year. 

LeRoy will continue to be remembered by his family and those he has given service to as a man with a generous and loving heart, a man whose greatest treasure was his family, and a man who was brave and courageous when life gave him challenges and adversity. 

LeRoy was preceded in death by his father Frank, his mother Effie, his sister Brenda, and two granddaughters, Cesca and Celeste.  He is survived by his wife Ann, his daughter Susan (Don) Buehner, son David (Rebecca) Maready, daughter Julie (John) Peterson, son Stephen Maready, and son Douglas (Tiffany) Maready, grandchildren Teancum, Chynna, Sophie and Luke Buehner; Tayler, Tanner, Brigham and Grace Maready; Emily, Jacob, Joseph and Anna Peterson; Jordan, Hunter, Mallory, Haley and Ryder Maready; Tyler, Zachary and Crew Maready and great-grandchildren Jimi Love Maready and Wesley James Peterson.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11:00 am, and a service at 12:00 pm at Bunker’s University Chapel located at 3529 E. University Drive in Mesa, AZ. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the dedicated caregivers at the Legacy Retirement Residence of Mesa for their many years of thoughtful service.

Samuel Leroy Odell passed on to be with his Lord and Savior on October 8, 2021. Sam was born in Holdrege, Nebraska on December 14, 1929.

Athletics took over in high school which lead him into the field of teaching, so he can coach and better teach the lessons of life to the young people in his charge. His personal playing experiences in all sports was part of the reason for his success in coaching. He graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.

In 1957, Samuel moved to Arizona to take a job in the Scottsdale school district, teaching Physical Education, Earth Science and Biological. During those years he coached Varsity Football, Basketball, and Tennis, at times earning Coach of Year in all three.

Sam was very active in his church choirs and sang brass with his vocal group the Kings Quartet.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents. Pastor Carl, and Ruth Odell, sisters, Irene and Gloria, brother Daniel, and children Debra and Jeffrey. He is survived by five children, Steve, Tracy, Scott, William, and Gregory.

Mary Ann Zedek, born to Thomas and Margaret Sherry of Carrolltown, Pennsylvania on April 21, 1944 passed away peacefully at her oldest daughter’s home in Pinetop, Arizona on October 18, 2021.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald J. Zedek Sr. of Mesa, Arizona and was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Margaret Sherry, Carrolltown, Pennsylvania. Mary Ann is the sister of James Sherry, Carrolltown, Pennsylvania, Carl Sherry, Carrolltown, Pennsylvania, Thomas A. Sherry, Saint Benedict, Pennsylvania, Gerard J. Sherry, Northern Cambria, Pennsylvania and Rose Kirsch, Patton, Pennsylvania.

Mary Ann was blessed with four children: Nancy Fredrickson (Don) of Pinetop Arizona, Donna Bowles (David) of Gilbert, Arizona, Sheri Hill (Karl) of Queen Creek, Arizona and Donald J. Zedek Jr. (Erin) of Mesa, Arizona.  She cherished her 12 grandchildren, Brandon Strittmatter, Brianna Mercado, Chase Fredrickson, Madison Fredrickson, Joshua Woods, Jeremy Woods, Zachary Bowles, Mary Alexis Bowles, Mirek Hill, Ditrik Hill, Elliana and Declan Zedek; and 5 great-grandchildren Brawley Strittmatter, Mason and Ryan Mercado, Keleni and Emma Latu.

Mary Ann’s life was dedicated to hard work and caring of her family.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on October 26 at Bunker’s Gilbert Memorial Park, 2100 East Queen Creek Road, Gilbert, Arizona 85297 and will close with a rosary at 7:00 pm.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, October 27 at All Saints Catholic Church, 1534 North Recker Road, Mesa, Arizona 85205.
Mary Ann will be laid to rest at a later date at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85024.

The family wishes to thank Compassus Hospice Care and Ballard Senior Home Care staff in Pinetop, Arizona for all of the care and compassion for Mary Ann.

Mary Margaret Canady, 89, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Banner Gateway Hospital, Mesa, Arizona.

Mary was born March 26, 1932, to Earl and Nelia Taylor in West Jefferson, NC. She spent her childhood there and later moved to Burlington, NC, where she went to work for Western electric, as a circuit board fabricator, retiring after 25 years.

She was married to Lee Canady on September 2, 1950, in Burlington. They traveled a lot for their jobs and enjoyed camping and traveling with the Red Dale Camping Club.

Mary was a long-time member of Eastern Star. She loved to play cards and was always ready for ‘lunch out’ and a trip to the casino.

Mary and Lee lived in Illinois for 25 years and traveled to Mesa as ‘snowbirds’ until 2003 when they purchased a home in Citrus Gardens in Mesa.

Preceding her in death are her parents, brothers Dale, Billy and Harold and sister, Virginia Absher. She is survived by her husband and many good friends.

Services are Monday, October 25, 2021, at 11 AM at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 East University Drive, in Mesa. She will be laid to rest in Green Acres Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Shriner’s Hospital for children.

Xenia Iris Espinoza passed away on October 12, 2021 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on February 6, 1989 in Chandler, Arizona to Edward and Olga Espinoza. Xenia was the third born of eight children; Danny (Erin), Denise (Brandon), Sol, Zulema, Tanya, Ezrom, and Andi. She is survived by her son Nikolai, her mother, Olga, her siblings, nieces and nephews. Xenia is preceded in death by her father, Edward and Grandmother, Enriqueta.

Xenia loved to dance, and spend time with her family. She especially loved to explore new places by traveling the world, for years, before giving birth to her son, Nikolai.

The Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – 1500 E. 6th Avenue, Mesa, Arizona; on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 11:00 AM.

Former Richmond resident, Eva Pearl Hurd Washington, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 15, 2021. Born January 30, 1927, in Oxford, OH, she was the sixth child of Christopher and Susie K Hurd.

Pearl was regularly active in the Church as her father was a Minister traveling through cities in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana teaching God’s Word. Having no formal training, she taught herself to play the piano and did so for the church.

Her first job as a young teen was in a grocery store along with her best friend, Cassie Burrell, she spoke often of their friendship through the years and the dun time they had working together. Pearl also worked at Elizabeth Parker’s Restaurant, Staco and Huffy Corporation where is retired at the age 55.

Pearl enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, and art and she has a special affection for cardinals. Her fondness for the bird was beautifully painted on canvas for her by her niece Jacqueline Clark Walker.

Pearl enjoyed being active and outdoors and initiated a walking program to enjoy both. She walked two to three miles daily and friends waved as she passed by carrying her stick in the event of stray dogs. She also enjoyed bowling and for several years, she and her husband, John, bowled every Saturday evening with her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Thomas Clark, at Richmond 40 Lanes.

Her greatest joy though was doing things with and for her family. For years when the family resided in Richmond, after church on Sundays, they gathered at 2103 South L Street, the home Pearl dreamed of that John had built, to enjoy a delicious dinner lovingly prepared by her. The weekly family fellowship always included lively conversation, playing cards and board games, badminton, ball toss and the young ones being pulled around the yard by her in the little red wagon all10 of them enjoyed when young. “Gran- Gran” always had each one’s special food or snack on hand through the years any time they visited.

Eva Pearl leaves to cherish her memory four children, Deborah (Marvin) Flood, Damita (Kim) Armstead, John (Karen) Washington all of Arizona and Ranae Dabney, Cleveland, OH, ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Eva Pearl was preceded in death by her husband John 13 prior to her passing, their daughter, Donna Lou, who died at 13 days old, a stillborn son, granddaughter, Brandi Pennington, parents Christopher and Susie K Hurd, sisters Lillie Ferguson, Thelma Spicer, Mary Clark, and Hallie Smith, and two brothers, Harrison and Robert Hurd.

There will be no service or public calling. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Foundation of America or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Leah Bunker Rogers (98 years old) passed away on October 15, 2021 in Uvalde, Texas. She was born August 28, 1923 in Riverton, Utah to Francis Neil Bunker and Rachel Evelyn Cox.

Leah graduated from Prescott High School in Arizona at age 16. She sang on her own half hour weekly radio show in Prescott Arizona during World War II. She traveled by small airplane with the Army Air Corp during World War II in order to purchase airplanes for the new pilots learning to fly. When the war training center closed she moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she worked various jobs.

Leah met her future husband Roy John Rogers in Chino Valley, Arizona and she married him in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on December 23, 1944 while he was on leave from New Guinea during World War II. They have 3 children, Carol Ruth (Douglas Folster Wilson), James Wayne (Trisha Lin Cochenour) and Judy (Blaine Russell Dickey).

Leah enjoyed playing the organ for church, weddings, and funerals. Along with her husband she was a temple worker at the Mesa Arizona Temple and she also played the organ in the Gila Valley Arizona Temple at age 93. Leah served in various callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She was an avid quilter making quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and for charity. She also crocheted hats and afghans that she gave to charity and she also enjoyed hand embroidery.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy John Rogers, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She has 3 children, 22 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, and two great- great-grandchildren at the time of her death.

Funeral Services will be handled by Bunker’s Garden Chapel at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 2424 North Old Gilbert Road in Mesa at 9am October 22, 2021 with burial to follow at the Mesa City Cemetery at noon.

Tapan Bipin Jadav was born on the 24th of July 1969 in a private nursing home in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India to Hansa and Bipin Jadav. He was born into a medical family, his father being a surgeon and his mother an anesthesiologist.

When Tapan was just two years old, he came to the US with his mother and lived in various states from Boston, Massachusetts to Dallas, Texas. Tapan’s mother tragically passed away in August of 1974 in New York City. He loved his mother, Hansa, very much.

His father, Bipin, remarried in 1976 to Melody, who adored Tapan and adopted him. Together, they raised Tapan to be a sweet and active young boy who enjoyed playing soccer, basketball, and baseball. He also loved dogs, and on Christmas Day in 1976, Melody gifted him a yorkie puppy. When asked what we wanted to name it, he said ‘Santa’.

Tapan was baptized on the 29th of April in 1979 at the First Presbyterian Church in Asbury Park, NJ. Shortly after, in 1979, the family moved to Globe, Arizona. He did well academically in elementary school through Medical school. In 8th grade his basketball team won the Arizona State Championship. Tapan’s younger siblings, Raj and Anjalee, looked up to him so much growing up. The Jadavs moved to Chandler in 1982, where Tapan attended Chandler High School. He graduated in 1987, moving on to attend Arizona State University for two years, and eventually University of Arizona for the latter two.

Tapan passed the admission test to attend medical school at Ramaiah Medical College of Bangalore University, India. He was also a point guard for his basketball team. Tapan came back home to Phoenix and passed the FLEX examination to practice medicine in the US after only three years of medical school, but had to go back to India and finish the final two before he could practice.

Tapan completed his residency at Maricopa Integrated Health System in Internal Medicine. In 2007, he opened his own practice in Chandler, Arizona in the same building his father, Bipin, had practiced medicine for 25 years. After a few years of practicing on his own, he decided to join the group of physicians Phoenician Primary Care.

As an Internist, his clinical expertise was outstanding. In his early years of practice he diagnosed several complicated medical illnesses. Tapan enjoyed being a doctor, and caring for his patience gave him and his family a great sense of pride.

On the 25th of March 2011, his son Brandon Jadav was born to Tapan and Lisa. Tapan adored his son Brandon, and always will be remembered as a loving father. Tapan loved to spend time with his son and was always so proud of him.

We will remember Tapan not only as a wonderful father, a fantastic physician- but as a pillar of joy for his friends and family. There was never a selfish bone in his body. His kindness and compassion touched the lives of every person he encountered, whether it be a family member, friend, or patient. Tapan lived his life to the fullest until his unexpected death on the 2nd of October 2021.

He is survived by his son Brandon; his parents Bipin and Melody; his younger brother Rajkumar and sister Anjalee; as well as countless other family and friends.

Maurine “Cookie” Smith was a caring Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend. She lost her battle with cancer on October 10, 2021 at age 75.

She was born to Guy and Beulah Rhodes on March 29, 1946 in Kennett, Missouri. Soon after her family moved to Southern California, Cookie had her first son, Ron. She would go on to have two more sons, Vernon Jr. and Michael, with her second husband, Vernon Smith. Cookie is survived by nine grandchildren as well as her three sons and husband.

Cookie was a dedicated wife and mother. She had few hobbies and interests outside of her family. She loved cooking and providing meals for holiday gatherings for loved ones. She spent many years working as a cashier at various grocery and general merchandise stores. In 1988, Cookie was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and her work life and love for cooking slowly came to an end. She went on to battle the disease until she was diagnosed with cancer. But even then, she never stopped caring for her family and those around her. Cookie was greatly unselfish and throughout her life sacrificed her own interests for the benefit of loved ones around her.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 am on October 19, 2021 at the Corona Baptist Church at 4450 West Ray Road in Chandler. A brief reception will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona immediately after the service. Dinner will be served back at the church after the reception. Flowers can be sent to the church.

An angel crossed over into heaven on October 9, 2021. Susan Thomas of Mesa, AZ passed peacefully in her sleep Saturday night with her daughter Karen and her beloved dog Spencer at her side. Sue was born on December 14, 1940, in Hackensack New Jersey and was the mother of three children, Charles, Richard and Karen Lentz, who remain and will miss her dearly.

Sue was a vibrant, active athlete who loved playing tennis, bowling, and getting in her weekly card game with the girls. Sue had a love for the arts and was always creating beautiful hand-made crafts for others she knew and loved. Sue was witty, sharp and had a great sense of humor; her smile was infectious and brought joy to everyone around her. Sue was a successful paralegal for over 40 years and spent her final years in AZ with her best friend and daughter, Karen.

Roger Alan Friend 74, of Mesa, AZ born in Ohio passed away on October 4, 2021 in Mesa, AZ after a short illness. He is preceded in death by his parents Lyle A. and Nola A. (Blessing) Friend and his in-laws James and Marjorie (Moser) Holzhauer.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Lynda (Holzhauer) Friend. His two daughters, Amy (Fred) Burlager and Jennifer (Jason) Harris. His grandchildren Mercedes, Georgia, Wyatt, Peyton, and Braxton.  His sisters Nina (James) Minnich of Ohio, Susan Jamison of Ohio and Ethel (Norm) Harp of Ohio.

Roger served in the U.S. Army as a mechanic. He spent 30 years as a diesel mechanic and 8 years at Home Depot before retiring. Roger loved woodworking and making projects. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and papa. Roger loved watching college football and rooting on his grandchildren’s college teams: Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.

Services will be held at a time and location to be announced in Mesa, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that contributions be made to in Roger’s name to the Wounded Warriors project.

Our beautiful mother, Cecile Bradshaw Ashby, 101, passed away peacefully in Mesa, Arizona, on Friday, October 1, 2021, surrounded by her family.

Cecile was born on January 13, 1920 at the base of South Mountain, Phoenix, Arizona (The Japanese Flower Gardens), to Clara Estella McClellan and Samuel Silas Bradshaw.

Cecile grew up in a large family during the depression era and although faced with poverty, sorrow and adversity, Cecile instead chose to search for happiness and thrived from the love of her parents and 12 siblings. Her family lived in Mesa and Cecile graduated from Mesa Union High School in 1938. Cecile was very social, she was athletic and fun, but her favorite past-time was dancing and especially attending dances at the old Mezona. She continued to dance well into her 90’s and making fun memories with her kids & grand-kids dancing the Wii Fit – Just Dance. On her 100^th Birthday, she warmed the hearts of her family as she danced with one of her sons and a nephew.

Cecile was a lifelong and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She enjoyed serving as a temple worker in the Mesa, Arizona Temple for many years and she was called and served as a full-time missionary to the Tallahassee, Florida mission in 1989. She has some memories of her dad and brothers helping build the Mesa, Arizona Temple and wanted to attend the re-dedication of “her Temple” this month October 2021.

Cecile’s greatest joys were being mother to her 6 children, their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Cecile’s mind was clear and sharp and her incredible memory was vibrant and amazing until the end. Even into her last days on this earth, Cecile remembered her family members by name. She loved them all the mostest.

Cecile loved anything and everything to do with her family and that included all that they did ~ sports, traveling, music, playing games, being outdoors, dancing and having fun. She just wanted to be with her family.

Cecile is survived by her sons ~ Douglas M. Ashby, Nicholas J. Ashby (Martha), Frederick H. Ashby (Lisa); her daughter ~ Janna Dwiggins (David); 28 grandchildren & 26 spouses; 100 great grandchildren & 6 spouses; 6 great-great grandchildren and 1 coming in 2022.

Cecile was preceded in death by her sons ~ Ronald Ralph Ashby and Gregory N. Ashby; Cecile’s daughter in law Sherry Ashby and also her great-grandsons ~ Crew Benjamin Standring and Kaique Vincent Shibuta. She is also preceded in death by her parents and 12 siblings & their spouses (Ruth Ellsworth, Leonard Bradshaw, Ira Bradshaw, Clara Larson, Tony Bradshaw, Niles Bradshaw, Orley Bradshaw, Rodney Bradshaw, Edward Bradshaw, Anita Reheis, Horace Bradshaw & Silas Bradshaw).

Our mom was and will always be a beloved blessing in our lives!

Caroline Perkins completed her life’s journey and was claimed by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on
October 1st, 2021 (Age 91). Caroline triumphed over strokes and numerous other life threatening
ailments throughout her life, but this time she fought her final battle. She was born on May 7, 1930 in
Sacaton, AZ. She was married to George C. Perkins Sr.

Her mother was Olive Ellis Hogan (deceased). She was preceded in death by her husband, George C.
Perkins Sr. and by her children: Gary G. Perkins, George C. Perkins Jr., Carol A. Perkins, Kathryn J.
Maldonado (Frank), and Connie M. Huenergardt (William). She is survived by one sister, Imogene
Jackson and one brother, Roger Ellis. She is also survived by two daughters: Georgina F. Robinson
(Manuel) and Mae F. Calamos (John). In addition, she is survived by many grandchildren, great
grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mama was an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Community, where she grew up. She was a
homemaker who loved and nurtured her family with the most unconditional care. Her mission was to
bring God into the lives of those who she loved. She was a dedicated warrior for Jesus Christ and an
exemplary role model of faith. She had an abundance of love for everyone. We thank God for blessing us
all with 91 years of her life.

Ronald Victor White, 64, of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community was born to Claudina Jo & Sylvester White on February 23, 1957.  He went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Claudina & Sylvester, his sister Victoria “Girl” White. To his family he is best known as “Boy.” Later on, in life he was known as Ronnie or Ron.

Ronnie was the Godfather to Michael, Katrina, Kristina, Krista, Rance Lewis & Jamie Yazzie.

Grandfather to Rianna, Johanna, Sy’anna, Joziah, Chesney, Serraeyia & Laddie Tate. Sinai & Madison Antone, Johanna & Kyle Wilson, Taylor Martinez, Alexander & Inez Avery, Robin Thomas, Ezio Juan, Amirra, Zalika, Mason, Remyni, Isabelle & Sansarae Lewis.

Ronnie was a loving and caring Uncle, Cousin, Grandpa-Papa, Friend & brother in Christ. He was a member of the Ft. McDowell Miracle Church of all Nations, under the direction of Pastor Virginia Curtis. Ronnie was the public relations for his church. He planned & coordinated the revivals, camp meetings and lodging for all the visitors of the church. His leadership role within the church will be greatly missed. He has gained many lifelong friends. He loved traveling for the lord. He is going to be missed by all who loved him.
