Howard Preston Owens passed away peacefully on October 30, 2021 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 62. Known by friends as “Howie”, he loved life, the gospel, family, friends & the great outdoors. He especially loved the time he spent with his wife, Claudia & hunting & fishing with his Grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. The Funeral Services will be held Saturday November 6, 2021 at 4629 E Guadalupe, Gilbert, AZ at 11 am, preceded by a viewing at 10:15 am. There will also be a private viewing dedicated to family Friday November 5, 2021 from 5:30- 7:30 pm at Bunker’s University Chapel- 3529 E. University Dr., Mesa, AZ.

Brent Incardone, born July 22nd, 1971, was called home Friday, October 29th, 2021 to be with the Lord and his late father Joe. He spent his entire 50 years in Arizona, creating a beautiful family with his wife Shelley and daughters Aubree (22), Kortnee (19), and Sophee (13). He was known for his strong work ethic, humor, warmth, and strong family values. He made everyone around him feel welcomed and loved, unless you were dating one of his daughters. Brent will be remembered as a man that loved camping, riding, boating, hunting, fishing, and everything outdoors. He will be greatly missed for years to come. Funeral services are Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 10 AM, preceded by a visitation at 9 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6655 E. Preston St., Mesa. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude’s are appreciated.

Ruth Jeane Jackson
6/8/1927 - 10/27/2021

Ruth Jeane Jackson passed away quietly on October 27, 2021, in Gilbert, Arizona. She was born in Gould, Arkansas on June 8, 1927.

A child of a section foreman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, she moved several times before settling in Redfield, Arkansas. She graduated valedictorian of her class. Shortly after WWII, she met a handsome young pilot named Ralph at a fish fry on the Arkansas River. They remained totally smitten with each other and happily married for 65 years. Jeane’s life as an Air Force wife took her to New York, Maryland, Ohio, Libya, California, Nebraska, and finally, Arizona.

Jeane loved playing games, watching birds, growing roses, learning, and nightly Jeopardy. Jeane was a very popular team member in Trivial Pursuit. She was an accomplished seamstress and a dynamite from-scratch cook. She was a founding member of the Gov. Hunt DAR Chapter. Jeane was active in her church, sang in the choir for almost 50 years, and ran the Meals On-Wheels program. Jeane was warm, gracious, and welcoming with a rare generosity of spirit.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Jackson; parents, Carl E. and Ruth B. Rowles; brother Carl (Son) Rowles, Jr.; sisters Lorraine Moring, and Nona Herbert. She is survived by her four daughters: Rosalinda (Michael) Brown, Ruth Margaret Allerton, Rhonda (Luccia Rogers) Jackson, and Rebecca (Thomas) Scotney; also five grandchildren Timothy (Carra) Brown, Christopher (Venus) Brown, Nathan Stipes, Tyler Scotney, and Laura (Cosmo Anaya) Scotney; and three great grandchildren: Caralyn Brown, Connor Brown, and Clarissa Brown.

Our sincere thanks to the staff at Bee Hive Homes of Gilbert for the love and care given to her for the past five months.

Services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church in Mesa, AZ on November 13 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Alzheimer’s Association or Macular Degeneration Research.

Sharon Solomon James
1/30/1940 - 10/25/2021

Sharon Solomon James 81, passed away in Gilbert Arizona on October 25, 2021, after a short but cruel struggle with cancer.

Sharon was born in Mesa Arizona at the Mesa Southside District Hospital on January 30, 1940, to Leona Crandall Solomon and Richard Jennings Solomon. She was the youngest of 4 children and is preceded in death by her parents and older brother Dick.

She attended elementary school in Mesa and graduated from Mesa High School in 1958. Shortly after graduating she moved to the Los Angeles area where her sister Ether Lynn was teaching school.  She worked at US Motors in Anaheim for several years before moving to the US Postal Service from which she retired after approximately 35 years of service.

She married Lee James who worked with her at US Motors but later divorced. She was not able to have children but had an abundance of love that she gave generously to her cat colony.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Richard (Dick), and is survived by her sister Ethel Lynn Sandler and, a brother Stephen (Steve). No funeral is planned, but a graveside service will be held at a later date.

Sanjay Pravinkant Shukla, 64, of Chandler, AZ, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021.

Through his jovial nature and optimistic demeanor, Sanjay was a brilliant man who pursued the journey of lifelong learning. An engineer at heart, he enjoyed reading and the exploration of new ideas. He treasured life through music, art, philosophy, and culture. Sanjay was a great father, husband, and a source of inspiration for his son Vivek and wife Sujata. He will be loved and missed.

Clayton G. Williams, Sr.

Clayton G. Williams, Sr., 86 died October 21, 2021, in Blackwater, AZ surrounded by loved ones.

Mr. Williams was born on December 2, 1934, in Sacaton, AZ to Andrew & Effie Williams.

Mr. Williams served in the US Army and worked for Bunkers Funeral Homes for many years as a Funeral Director, he worked with families across the Gila River Indian Community.

Mr. Williams enjoyed watching football and basketball, spending time with his family, planting, cooking, and most of all drinking his favorite coffee. Clayton will truly be missed by all.

Clayton is survived by his five daughters: Verona Williams, Victoria Garcia, Kathy Espinoza, and Antonia Ordonez of Blackwater. His sons Clayton Williams Jr., of Laveen and John Williams Sr., of Casa Grande. 35 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great children.

He was preceded in death by his wife Theresa Williams, his parents, two sons Calvin and Anthony Williams, grandson Enrique Espinoza, granddaughter Miracle Williams and granddaughter Tanya Rose Trujillo.

Wake Service for Mr. Williams will be October 29, 2021, from 6-10pm at the Williams Residence and Funeral will be held at Coolidge Indian Assembly of God from 8:00-9:15am. Burial will be at Squaw Bush Cemetery.

Ruth Schulz

Ruth Schulz peacefully passed away on October 9, 2021, in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 96. Ruth was born in Postville, Iowa on February 27, 1925, to Fred “Fritz” H. J. Thoma, and Emma B. (Plaht) Thoma. After her high school graduation Ruth did secretarial work for several years, before marrying Charles William Doerring on September 12, 1946. They established their home on a farm near his parents’ home in Luana, Iowa. In 1947 an infant son was born to the couple and died the same day. Charles was killed on June 8, 1947, in a tragic accident playing in a baseball game. Ruth married Ernest Michael Schulz of Rockwell City, Iowa on September 26, 1949. They moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa in 1955 and had five children (including twins) by 1960. Ernie worked a few years for the REA (Rural Electric Assoc.) before joining a newly formed engineering firm (DeWild, Grant & Reckert) as a Project Manager in the Communications Department. He oversaw the installation of underground cable in different areas of the Midwest and his work took him many places. In 1963, Ernie and Ruth moved the family to Palmer, Alaska, where they spent one year enjoying the breathtaking scenery, salmon fishing, and rock hunting in the valleys. After their return to Rock Rapids, Ruth worked for the City Utilities for five years, and then 10 years part time as Church Secretary at Peace Lutheran Church. In 2000, Ernie and Ruth moved to Mesa, Arizona, where their oldest son and family live. They enjoyed golfing and visiting with friends until Ernie developed Alzheimer’s Disease and passed away July 12, 2003. Ruth continued her volunteer work at the library and loved tending her abundant pots of beautiful flowers, which she could enjoy the year around, along with the warm weather and bright sunshine in Arizona. She relished visits from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers Leonard Herman George Thoma of Postville, Iowa and Wesley Louis Thoma of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her husband Charles William Doerring; her husband Ernest Michael Schulz; and her infant son. She is survived by her five children, Robert Schulz (Joy) of Mesa, Arizona; Jon Schulz of Mentor, Ohio; Mark Schulz (Carol) of Woodland, Washington; Mary Carlson (Dave) of Des Moines, Iowa; and Nancy Davis (Craig) of West Des Moines, Iowa; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Veteran’s Day 11/11 at 11:00am in the small Fox Chapel at First Presbyterian Church of Mesa, with Inurnment of Ruth and Ernest’s ashes on 11/15 at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

Jesse Lee Pogue Jr.
01/21/1950 - 10/20/2021

Jesse Lee Pogue Jr., 71, of Mesa, AZ.,  passed away in his home on October 20, 2021, after a year long battle with cancer. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 21, 1950 to Jesse and Theresa Pogue. He was the middle child of five children (Predeceased by Marie Dosch and Janet Sandberg, survived by William Pogue and Deborah Clark). He graduated from Niles West High School in Skokie, Il., where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Linda Carol (Carlson) Pogue on January 29, 1972. Promptly after graduating he enlisted and proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy on the USS NEOSHO AO-143. Jesse is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Charity, son Kenneth, four grandchildren, Grace (Zach), Aurora, Jackson and Ashton and two great grandchildren, Layla and Brayden, as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.  Jesse was proud to be a lifetime member of the BPOE Payson Elks Lodge #2154.  He spent the majority of his career working as an HVAC technician for Mesa Public Schools, and eventually retiring from Talley Defense Systems in 2011. After retiring, Jesse began his life as an official snowbird, living in Mesa, AZ half of the year, and the other half in his mountains of Pinetop, AZ. He was a lover of the mountains and nature, and if you were looking for him, just head to the nearest lake, you could find him there with a fishing pole in one hand and a beer in the other. Jesse was awed in the natural wonders of the world and enjoyed traveling with his wife Linda. All through his life, he traveled the US, visiting many of these  natural wonders and monuments in the West/Midwest States including Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, New Mexico and Arizona, and holding a special place in his heart for Wisconsin. Whether traveling by RV or popping a tent for a weekend visit, this was how he loved to spend his time. Through all of his exploring, his fondest memory was traveling thru Alaska and catching his first salmon. When he wasn’t fishing, he enjoyed bowling, watching sports and attending NASCAR races with his buddies. We will miss his constant bantering, quick wit and sarcasm. If you were one of the lucky ones to be teased or picked on, you know he liked you.

In keeping with his nature, the  memorial services will be kept private for family and close friends. It will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 @ 11am at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, located at 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024. In lieu of flowers, please consider volunteering, donating blood (which he did as often as possible), or making a monetary donation in his name to the American Red Cross, or to any charity that is close to your heart. Robert “Bobby” Scott Price

Robert Scott “Bobby” Price, born to Dana and Nancy Price (Carnahan) of Paulding, Ohio on September 10th, 1958 passed away peacefully at the home he shared with his youngest sister in Mesa, Arizona on October 23rd, 2021.

Robert spent his early life growing up in Antwerp, Ohio. Robert moved with his family to Arizona in 1973 where he lived much of his adult life.

Robert married Lisa Price (Mills) and they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Cassondra “Casey” Price and Stephanie “Stevie” Price, whom he cherished dearly all of his life.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Dana Price, Sherwood, Ohio, Nancy Murray, Mesa, Arizona and daughter Stephanie “Stevie” Price Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Robert worked most of his life as a professional truck driver.

Robert was a life-long fan of his beloved Cleveland Indians. Robert loved fishing, family and friends. Robert loved his dog and constant companion “Peety”. The two were inseparable. Robert was a handy man and always working on the next project or craft.

Robert was always there to lend a hand to anyone. Robert’s wit and humor will be truly missed by all his family and friends.

Robert is survived by his daughter Cassondra Price of Fort Wayne, Indiana, sister Candance Johnson, brother Dana Price II, and sister Evelyn Denise Moss all of Mesa, Arizona and beloved dog, “Peety” Price.

Robert was an avid supporter of the ASPCA and believed that “all sheltered pets deserved a forever home”. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to your local animal shelter or the ASPCA to help them find forever homes.

Helen Ong, 89, passed away on October 20, 2021. Born and raised in Mesa, Helen was a graduate of Mesa High School. Following graduation, she studied education and business at Arizona State University, earning two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree in education. She taught with Mesa Public Schools for 28 years, with the majority of her teaching career spent at Westwood High School. When she wasn’t teaching her business, computer, and shorthand classes, she was helping the family manage their grocery business, the Evergreen Market. Helen was a voracious reader, a prolific home cook, and an avid crafter and cross-stitcher.

She is preceded in death by her father Tong Sheng Ong, mother Wong Young (Mary) Ong, and siblings Virginia, Henry, Benjamin, and Turman Ong. She is survived by her sister Josephine Wall (Robert), nieces Tamara Havlik (Bruce), Roseanne Acevedo (Manuel), and Rebecca Ong (Robert Prince), nephew Michael Wall, and sister-in-law Michele Ong (Rick Lin).

Due to COVID-19, funeral services will be kept private, but a livestream link will be available on the Bunker Family Funerals and Cremation website on Wednesday, November 3 at 12pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Helen’s memory to Helen’s Hope Chest (no relation, just happy coincidence), Sunshine Acres Children’s Home in Mesa, and Hospice of the Valley.

Born April 14th 1938 in Salt Lake City Utah passed peacefully through the veil while surrounded by family in Chandler Arizona on October 20th 2021.

Myrna was preceded in death by her son Kevin Kay Wrathall and her husband Ernest Kay Gleed.

Myrna is survived by four children, Collette Powell, Mark Hutcheson, Lorraine Hamp, and Melany Taylor. Myrna has 27 grandchildren, and 60 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on October 29th 11:00am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints 2252 W. Mesquite Rd. Chandler, AZ. 85224.

Michael John Nyberg

Michael John Nyberg of Mesa, Arizona passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the age of 56. Michael passed through the veil of this life peacefully with his beloved wife Layne and brother Kevin by his side. Michael was born in Reno, Nevada on November 3, to father Roger John Nyberg and mother Linda Lea Officer.

His unparalleled work ethic, love for his country, and desire to care for his future family led to his enlistment in the United Staes Navy in June of 1994. He was trained extensively in radar and communications, and obtained both confidential and secret security clearances. He worked diligently to track all surface and air contacts, provided tactical information support, assisted in the control of the ship’s defenses, and supported the safe navigation of the ship.

Michael was highly respected by all of his peers, and his superiors quickly took notice. Due to his leadership skills, he was assigned the task of overseeing division training. In this capacity, he was responsible for scheduling vital courses for continued education and the success of the team as a whole.  Michael was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, and assigned to  the U.S.S. John C. Stennis. He was honored with the distinguished title of “Plank-Owner” when the ship was  commissioned in December of 1995.

While in Virginia, he met the love of his life, Layne Charisse. They were married on December 1, 1995 and enjoyed over 25 years of deep abiding love, a committed friendship, and four wonderful children.

Michael  consistently served God, his family, and others throughout his life.  He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and successfully fulfilled various assignments throughout the years. His favorite callings included working with Primary children, and teaching the youth.

After the Navy, Michael and Layne relocated to Mesa, Arizona where he began his career as a Special Inspector for a structural engineering firm. Michael worked on many notable buildings such as the State Farm stadium and the Palo Verde nuclear plant. When he wasn’t working, he could be found spending time with family & friends, and preferred to do so on the lake. He went fishing as often as he could, and always had children and their friends in tow.

Michael was preceded in death by his stepmother Erma Nyberg, grandparents Claude and Elizabeth Nyberg, Eldred and Florine Butikofer, aunt Vicki Keith, and uncle Robert Butikofer.

He is survived by his beautiful best friend Layne and children Ashley Lyn, Elizabeth Layne, Ian Michael, and Olivia Leigh, his parents, siblings and nieces and nephews. Michael loves his family unceasingly, and never hesitated to share that love with them.

A visitation for Michael is planned for Sunday, October 24, 2021, from 5 pm to 7 pm  at Bunker Family Funeral Home- University Chapel, located at 3529 E. University Dr. Mesa, AZ 85213

A memorial service is planned for Monday, October 25th at 

11am, with a viewing at 9:30 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 3344 E.  McDowell Rd

Mesa, AZ  85213.

Michael will be laid to rest on Tuesday, October 26th at 10:30 am in Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery located at 

15950 N Luckett Rd, Marana, AZ  85653, United States.
