Eighty year old Harvey C. Mosley passed away Oct 7, 2014 in the company of family and loved ones. Harvey spent a lifetime in service to God, family, country, and fellow man. He was slow to anger, quick to forgive. He taught with love and lead by example. Harvey is survived by his wife, Edith, 6 children and their spouses, 9 step children and their spouses, and well over 100 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Thelma Dunn and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Oct 13, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2334 E. Pueblo Ave. Mesa, AZ. Viewing will begin at 9 AM, followed by the funeral at 10 AM. Burial at the Phoenix Memorial Cemetery in Cave Creek, AZ will occur Oct. 14, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Arrangements by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.
Dorothy Evelyn McRae Keller was born on January 19, 1920 in Mesa, Arizona, the daughter of Milton and Hattie Josephine Williams McRae. She passed away in Mesa on October 6, 2014. Dorothy spent her early life in Thatcher, Arizona being raised by her grandmother, Harriet Williams, as Dorothy’s mother died when Dorothy was 4 years old. She attended Gila Academy after high school graduation. She lived in California for a short time before joining the WACs during WWII. Her friend introduced her to Ralph and they corresponded for the duration of the war. They married on September 4, 1945 and moved into a small home in Phoenix. After 5 years of marriage and 3 children they moved to Ajo, Arizona. Their other 4 children were born there. After the birth of their last child they moved to San Diego, California and lived there until 1964 when they returned to Arizona. They spent many good years in Strawberry, Arizona before Ralph passed away in 1999. Dorothy moved to Mesa and spent the remainder of her life there. Dorothy’s main focus in life was her family and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was proud to be a descendant of pioneers back to Nauvoo, Illinois.
Dorothy is survived by 7 children: Marlene (Jay) Omerza, John (LaDonna) Keller, Reed (Colleen) Keller, Sheila (Larry) McCrery, Ralph (Paulette) Keller, Sarah (John) Sowers, and Donna (Ron) Riley; 19 grandchildren: Nikki (Layne) Rousseau, Marnee Omerza, Jason (Abby) Omerza, Stefani (Jarrett) Garcia, Paul (Jennifer) Omerza, James (Rachel) Omerza, Mandi (Jeremy) Buffington, Rhett (Kristi) Keller, Barry (Aimee) Keller, Holly (Jeremy) Tesimale, Alice Keller, Molly (Jessica) Keller, Kristie McCrery, Tina (Ladd) Wilhelm, Sharon (Erik) Finell, Terri (Dan) Pratt, Mike (Eden) McCrery, Justin Keller, Sean (Leslie) Keller; and 46 great-grandchildren: Lily Rousseau, Ian Rousseau, Adam Rousseau, Kameron Donaldson, Chris Donaldson, Ariane Omerza, Nathan Omerza, Isabel Garcia, Jarrett Garcia, Joseph Garcia, Addie Omerza, Clare Omerza, Elsie Omerza, Jill Omerza, Samuel Omerza, Thomas Omerza, Fiona Buffington, Kelyse Keller, Karly Keller, Luther Keller, Claire Keller, C.J. Dorothy’s funeral is planned for Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2220 North Harris, Mesa. A viewing is planned one hour prior to the services at the meetinghouse.
Gordon Lamar Chapman, 80, of Queen Creek, Arizona passed away on October 1, 2014. He was born on April 19, 1934 in Bluewater, New Mexico to WF (Chink) and Imogene Chapman. He married Rae Verdene Halls in 1956 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They were married for 58 years. He was preceded in death by his grandson Austin David Chapman in 1992. He is survived by his wife Verdene Chapman, his five sons; Doug (Karla), Steve, Vic (Heidi), Tim and David (Lana); 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a set of twins on the way.
Lamar served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England in 1954. He served as the first bishop of the Mesa 23rd Ward for six years. He loved scouting and serving in the church. Much of his career life was with his brother, Fullmer. Businesses included a dairy, a carwash, and two mobile home parks. He enjoyed traveling and outdoor recreational activities with his family and friends. He loved his family very much. He will be missed.
Services will be Saturday, October 11th at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 North Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ. Visitation will be from 3:00-3:30 with a memorial service immediately following the visitation. Interment will be at City of Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N. Center Street, Mesa, Arizona.
WILLIAM OSCAR GUYNN, JR., 96, passed away peacefully at his home in Mesa, AZ. on September 28, 2014. He was born in 1918 to Pearl Ione Chrisman and William Oscar Guynn in Webb City, Missouri, one of eight children. Bill was married to Fay Cheney of Boise, Idaho for 68 years and was a member of the LDS church. He enjoyed traveling to 48 states with Fay during their retirement. Bill was of a member of an awarded U.S. Army Signal Core Installation and served during WW II, including a year-long station in China. Bill worked and enjoyed a long career with Western Electric. Bill is survived by four children: Carol Ann, Susan, Bruce and Kim, and their children and grandchildren. Services will be held at the Meadowgreen Ward chapel, 851 S. 32nd St. in Mesa, on October 11, 2014 at 12:00 PM. Arrangements are by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.
Beverly Christen Patanella, 84, passed away July 30, 2014 in Apache Junction, Arizona. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 11, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Calvary Chapel Apache Junction, 2229 W. Broadway Avenue, Apache Junction, AZ, 85120. The service will be followed by a reception at the same location. Cheerful attire preferred.

Helen F. Bates, 95, passed away peacefully September 26, 2014 in Mesa, Arizona. She led a full life, always active in her church and enjoying music, quilting, crocheting, and camping. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lt. Col. Paul J. Bates, USAF Ret., her son Paul J. Bates, Jr., and her grandson, Paul J. Bates III. She is survived by her children Richard W. Bates, Laurence A. Bates, Kathryn Bates, Barbara Bates Shumway, and Diane Bates, and 7 grandchildren. Funeral services are Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 10 AM at the LDS Church, Harmony Ward building, 940 E. Southern Ave., Mesa. Our thanks to Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Alice Lucille Penrod, 89, passed away on September 29, 2014. Alice, a long-time music teacher in Mesa, is survived by her three children: Wayne Penrod, Devera Ison, and Jerry Penrod. She had 17 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren. The family will hold a private memorial service for her.
Marvell Webb Taylor, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2014 in Mesa, AZ. Marvell was born on January 3, 1930 in Winslow, AZ to Wayne and Charlotte Webb.
The oldest of 5 children, Marvell grew up in Snowflake and on the Hopi Indian Reservation, where her father worked for the government. She graduated from Mesa High School in 1947. Marvell met Gene Taylor at Arizona State College right after he returned from WWII. They were married in the Mesa Temple on December 22, 1948. Last December they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Marvell enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for their 8 children while she supported Gene as he built their family business. She loved serving in the church in many capacities including Stake Primary Board, Ward Relief Society President, Boy Scouts and Stake Young Women’s President where she organized a girls’ camp at their Taylor Ranch in Pinedale, AZ, which has continued for over 30 years. Marvell was also a Temple worker at the Mesa Temple for 10 years. Gene and Marvell served three missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was known for her kind smile, and loving service to others.
She loved being involved in the AZ Mother’s Association and was named Arizona Mother of the Year in 1995. Marvell spent many years mentoring young mothers that looked to her for guidance.
Marvell is survived by her husband Gene and their children: Sharon (Farrel) Holyoak, Wilford (Sharla) Taylor, Ken (Lori) Taylor, DeeAnn Manganaro, Brenda (Steve) Penrod, Patty (Doug) Steiner, MaryLou (Scott) Clifford and Tom (Tammy) Taylor, along with 36 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren with 4 more on the way. She is also survived by her brothers LeeWayne and Dee Webb and sisters, Irene Jarvis and LaNay Magoffin. She is preceded in death by her parents Wayne and Charlotte Webb.
Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Bunkers Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa. Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 3 at 10 am at the Kimball Stake Center, 1266 S. 32nd St., Mesa, AZ, preceded by a visitation from 9 to 9:45 am.
Joseph Palmer Foy
Born April 14, 1925, in Price, Utah, Joseph Palmer Foy left this earthly life peacefully Sept. 26, 2014, in Mesa, Arizona. Joe’s 89 years were filled with work, military and church service, music, and most importantly, a tremendous love for his family and the Savior. Joe is survived by his bride of 62 years, Doris; children, Mitchell (Molly), Sheila (Adrian) Cluff, Vance, Leslie (Andy) Hindes; and his brother Norman. His legacy continues through his 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at 11 AM at Mesa East Stake Center, 2228 E. Brown Rd., preceded by a visitation from 9-10:45 AM. Burial will be at Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Love and gratitude goes to Hospice of Arizona for their tender care the last weeks of his life.
Wayne Aura Stone, born Jan 30, 1923, passed away peacefully on Sept 24, 2014 in Mesa, Arizona. He was born to George & Essie Stone in Titusville, PA. He was preceded in death by his 9 siblings and wife of 48 years, Edith Ann (Lamey). After graduating high school Wayne enlisted in the Army where he attained the rank of Sergeant in the 222 3rd Censorship Detachment. After his discharge he worked at Erie Builders Supply, Metropolitan Life Insurance and retired from the carpentry shop at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA. Wayne moved to Mesa, AZ in 1991 where he has made his home ever since. He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Sherry & James Carter of Kennesaw GA; and son & daughter-in-law, Tom & Debbie Stone of Chandler AZ. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren who thought the world of Pops – Brian Carter (Ive), Kelly Quattlebaum (Frank), Stephanie Cozby (Brad), Anne Sullivan (Jason), Michele Jones (Jake) and Michael Stone; 7 great grandchildren – Aleah Carter, Brittany Carter, Jonathan Wilson, Kayla Sullivan, Noah Sullivan, Sarah Sullivan & Asher Jones; plus 1 great, great granddaughter, Addison.
Wayne had a charm about him along with a quick wit which endeared him to many he would meet. His favorite meeting place was the 19th Donut Hole in Mesa, AZ where he would be most every morning, solving the world’s problems with his fellow comrades. He enjoyed doing nice things for people but did not want to be a bother to anyone himself. He often worked crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, reading and watching sports on TV. He did not like to hike and was not a fussy eater.
Visitation will be at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 Centennial Way in Mesa AZ 85201 on Wednesday evening, OCT 1st, from 6:00-8:00pm. A graveside service will be held at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Road in Phoenix AZ 85204 on Thursday morning, OCT 2nd, at 10:00am sharp, where a Color Guard ceremony will promptly take place honoring Wayne’s military service followed by a short reflection & prayer. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Arizona are suggested – 1132 S Oakland, Mesa, AZ 85206.
GREGORY JAY SHELDEN, born March 27, 1950 in California, raised in South Dakota and a long time resident of Mesa Arizona passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2014 after his courageous six year battle with cancer.
Greg was a wonderful brother, dad, grandpa, soul mate, nephew and everyone’s best friend. His countless friends were his greatest joy. He truly felt he was the luckiest guy in the world. His kindness, generosity, quick wit and unwavering loyalty were beyond compare.
Among his many talents and accomplishments as an artist and entrepreneur Greg was best known as an extraordinary musician and performer. A two time inductee in to the South Dakota Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Cavaliers and The Ride.
Greg was preceded in death by his beloved Diane Davis, mother and father Don and Muriel Shelden. He is survived by his daughters Margaret Revette, Jennifer Yeatropoulos and Heather Davis, granddaughters Peggy and Rachel Revette, sister Peggy Feller, bother-in-law Bob Feller, nephews David Bice, Justin Bice and Jesse Feller, niece Emily Questa and special friend Flo Massaro-McCoy.
A celebration for Greg’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation offered to the American Cancer Society or a charity close to your heart is greatly appreciated.
Annette Cheryl Kisto Garcia, 57, passed away September 20, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 4:00 PM, preceded by a visitation at 3:00 PM, at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 North Centennial Way, Mesa, Arizona.
Gloria Rogers McHenry passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014 in Mesa, Arizona. She was born December 9, 1922 in El Paso, TX to Ross Wall Rogers and Katy Naomi Stailey. A few months after her birth, the family returned to reside in the Thatcher, Arizona area. Gloria graduated from Thatcher High School as valedictorian continued her education at Eastern Arizona College, followed by University of Arizona where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. Gloria spent a year in Cincinnati, Ohio as a dietetic intern and became a certified dietician working four years in California. She then attended UCLA to receive her teaching credential and taught Home Economics in Southgate, California for two years. In 1945, Gloria met and married Arlis Edwin McHenry, residing in southern California for thirteen years. Her two daughters, Taya and Kathleen were born during this time. Gloria returned to Mesa, Arizona in 1959, following her divorce. She taught Home Economics for Mesa Public Schools at Mesa Junior High and after receiving her Master’s Degree in Education from Northern Arizona University, obtained her counseling certification and continued her education career as a counselor at Carson Junior High until her retirement. Gloria is remembered fondly as many students’ favorite teacher due to her caring attitude and positive style of teaching. She was a participating member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary women teachers’ organization for many years. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she willingly served in YWMIA, Sunday School, Primary, and Relief Society. Her retirement years were filled with her most beloved occupation of full-time grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of 18.
Gloria will be remembered as a loving, selfless mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her sister, Wylma and brothers, Royce, Paul, Joseph and Dwayne. The celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the LDS chapel located at 1010 N. Recker Rd., Gilbert, Arizona, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 7900 E. Apache Trail, Mesa, Arizona.
Tenna Joan Corbitt, 90, passed away September 20, 2014 in Gilbert, Arizona. Funeral services are Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11 AM, preceded by a visitation at 10 AM, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1005 N. Voyager Drive, Gilbert, Arizona. Interment is at the Green Acres Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona. Arrangements by Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 480-696-6883.
Tony J. Mitchell 67, loving and beloved son, brother of 5, husband, father and step-father of 8, grandfather of 24 and great grandfather of 1, left us on September 15, 2014 to be with the rest of our loved ones who have passed on. Tony was born November 17, 1946 in Brigham City, UT, and will be returning to Brigham City to be laid to rest. Moved to Arizona in 1964. He was a automotive mechanic most of his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing, hunting and holiday get togethers. There won’t be a golden oldie song we hear that won’t remind us of him. He will be greatly missed.
