Nancy Peterson Barton

Nancy Peterson Barton, 77, passed away peacefully in Mesa, Arizona, on August 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

Nancy was proud to be a native of Arizona, born in Mesa on July 22, 1949, to Grant Eugene Peterson and Marie Felshaw Peterson. She was raised in Coolidge in a cotton-farming family. At 14 years old, her family moved to Mesa, where she graduated from Mesa High in 1967. She attended Mesa Community College and Arizona State University. Nancy worked various jobs through the years in order to raise and support her four children in Mesa and during a 14-year stint in Las Vegas, Nevada. She finished her working career in a job she loved, as a secretary at the LDS Institute of Religion at Mesa Community College.

Nancy was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She always held callings in the Church, usually in the Primary and Young Women. For many years, she volunteered at the Mesa and Las Vegas LDS temples. Nancy loved to ride horses, play tennis, garden, sew, and bake. She was well-known for her delicious baking and desserts.

Nancy’s life was defined by devotion to her faith, family, and friends, and by Christ-like service to everyone. She was known for her caring nature, thoughtful advice, and unwavering support of those around her. Whether offering a listening ear, lending a helping hand, or sharing a warm smile, she touched countless hearts with her warmth, generosity, and compassion. Nancy also exemplified grace, resilience, and selflessness when faced with obstacles and challenges. She was always positive and always saw the good in everything and everyone.

Nancy was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her greatest joy came in spending time with those she loved. Family gatherings, celebrations, and quiet moments with loved ones were among her greatest treasures. Her home was a place of welcome, peace, laughter, and happiness, and she had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel valued and loved. Nancy’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Nancy is survived by her four children—Christopher (Trea), Allison, Ryan (Trina), and Jeffrey (Barbie-De); nine grandchildren—Zane, Jedidiah, Amelia, Audriana, Bellissia, Raquelle, Spencer, Olilyia, and Grant; three sisters—Paula Dahl, Kristen Goebel, and Maryann Carpenter; and many other cherished relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, George Earl Peterson and Grant Joseph Peterson.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 9 am at the Mesa Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, gratitude, and celebration of Nancy’s life and legacy.

Flowers may be delivered by 8:00 am Tuesday to Bunker Family Funerals Garden Chapel location in Mesa, or by 10:30 am to the LDS Chapel at 2618 N. Lindsay Road, Mesa 85213, where family and friends will gather for lunch after the graveside service.
