A Life Remembered

Obituary

Our hearts are heavy as Kaleb John Schad, surrounded by family, passed through the veil from this earthly life to begin his journey in eternity. 10 days before, he was officially diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare aggressive cancer that formed in the bile ducts of his liver. It then spread to the peritoneum lining (abdomen) and lungs, passing Monday April 27, 2026, in Gilbert Arizona at 9:27 pm. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Kaleb was born and raised in Mesa Arizona. The 2nd child and 1st son of Gary Lynn and Sheryth Ann Stewart Schad. He was a happy child, fun to be around, and quiet, yet competitive. He attended Franklin Elementary School, Taylor Junior High School, and Mesa High School. He played the saxophone 4th – 8th grades, then chose to play football 9th – 12th grades. Kaleb enjoyed wrestling too. In 1992 he played a big part when Mesa High School won the 5A State Football Championship.

Kaleb learned at an early age to work hard. Besides the normal household chores, the family had a paper route, cleaned the bank, and helped with catering, the best part was the donut runs afterward. Before the mission he worked for Walmart in the shoe department, then after the mission in 1996 he worked for a Dive shop in exchange for scuba equipment. At the same time, he worked as a Meter Reader for APS. He later joined the Distribution Operations Center (DOC) as an operator, spending 14 years there before moving to ECC as a Transmission Operator. In 2019 he was promoted to ECC supervisor. Throughout his tenure, Kaleb demonstrated effective leadership, consistently supporting his team and exhibiting patience, strong training abilities and composure under pressure, qualities essential for an ECC supervisor. His steady leadership and dedication had a significant impact on the Energy Control Center. Kaleb was also recognized for his integrity and commitment to his family. His contributions will be remembered by colleagues in the ECC and across APS for years to come. That is who Kaleb was in all aspects of his life, truly a Quiet Giant.

Kaleb was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved the Lord and reading his scriptures. He was an Eagle Scout and earned the Arrow of Light. He served a mission for the Lord from 1994-1996 in the New York New York North Mission. He always wanted to serve on a foreign mission, and New York City was that. Over three million foreign-born residents representing more than 150 nationalities and over two hundred spoken languages. It was Kaleb’s Best Two Years until he met and married the girl of his dreams, Amy Lynn Cochran, on November 27, 1999, in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Sealing their union for eternity.

Together he and Amy raised three wonderful sons, Dallas, Jaden, and Talon. Kaleb taught them to respect others, especially their mother and their further wife. He taught them how to shave, drive, serve and minister to others, work hard, be a protector, don’t make excuses and always trust in God the Father and his son Jesus Christ. In other words, he taught them everything and was example of it all, he practiced what he preached and loved his family dearly.

Kaleb loved the outdoors and had an adventurous spirit. Sky Driving, flyboarding, biking, longboarding, camping, 4-wheeling, razor adventures, wakeboarding, snowboarding, scuba diving, Legos with his boys, family vacations with his siblings in Park City, watching reality TV (Survivor), and playing all kinds of card and board games.

He is survived by his sweet wife Amy and their three sons, Dallas Kaleb Schad, Jaden John Schad, finance Isabella “Bella” Reyes, and Talon McKay Schad. His parents Gary and Sheryth (Stewart) Schad. Siblings: sister Brandi Lynn (Schad) Martin, husband Neil Benjamin Martin; brother Simeon Lantz Schad, wife Kymberly (Skinner) Schad and sister Courtney Ann (Schad) Jay, husband Joshua David Jay.
