About David Lehi Slocum
David Lehi Slocum was born March 26, 1971, and died on March 14, 2026 at the age of 54. He spent his last few hours on this earth helping a friend with a construction project, then packed up his tools, got in his truck, and passed away as he backed gently out of the driveway across the street – suddenly, painlessly, and surrounded by friends.
Branford, Connecticut was Dave’s home for the first seven years of his life, before moving to Mesa, Arizona with his mom and sister. He was an active, curious, rambunctious boy, who is responsible for a large share of the family’s funniest childhood stories. He attended Westwood High School, where he learned to love skateboarding. But, by the time he hit his 20’s, he got tired of tearing up his knees and gave it up, focusing on his love of music, instead. In his 30’s, he taught himself to play bass guitar and formed a band with some friends. Playing classic rock in his garage every Friday was a highlight of his week for almost 15 years.
Dave was a hard worker and spent most of his life in construction. He was a journeyman electrician for CR Custom Electric for 20 years, a job he was good at and enjoyed until age and the ravages of his teenage skateboarding finally took their toll on his knees. Since 2023, he worked in maintenance for JLL at the Bank of America building in Chandler. There, he enjoyed being able to use his construction knowledge and organizational abilities to work without as much strain on his body.
He loved animals, and after getting his first Golden Retriever at the age of 30, his home was never without several dogs and cats that he adored. He said his cats ruined TV for him because they were more entertaining than anything he could watch. He was an amazing pet daddy and is terribly missed by the dog and three cats he leaves behind.
Dave was a life-long learner, but a hearing impairment made learning in a classroom setting difficult, so he became a voracious reader. When newspapers were a thing, he read them cover to cover, but he also loved reading history, archaeology, mysteries, biographies, weird trivia, humor, and in the past few years, religion.
Even though Dave’s family raised him in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he had not been active since his teens. Three years ago, he returned to church with a lot of life experience and renewed faith in Jesus Christ. He found many opportunities to serve in the Harmony ward and in the temple. His friends and family will remember him fondly for his example of service, incredible love for the scriptures, testimony of Christ, and the peace and joy found in the gospel.
He is survived by mother, Linda Slocum, sister, Laurie Hildebrandt and her husband, Rick, niece Jamie Klingler and her husband Ben, their kids Josh, Eli, Alena, and Sam, nephew Adam Hildebrandt, niece Shannon Mickelson, brother Tommy Slocum, niece Phylicia Cahill, her husband, Sean and their kids Jordan, Rilie, and Jesse, and step-mother Chris Slocum.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 940 E. Southern Ave, Mesa, AZ 825204 on Saturday, March 28th @ 10:00. A gathering for friends and family will be held at 9:00, just prior to the service at the same building.
