A Life Remembered

Obituary

In the evening of Good Friday, April 3rd, 2026, Dale Edwin Bjork passed away in his home at the age of 77.

He was born to Howard and Charlotte Bjork on January 6,1949 at Fitzsimmons General Army Hospital. He spent the first years of his life on Ellsworth Air Force base in Rapid City, South Dakota near the Black Hills. His family moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1960 when Dale was about 11 years old, and he graduated from Caprock High School in 1967. Shortly after, he joined the Marines and served for a year in Vietnam.

In 1969, Dale moved to Provo, Utah to attend Brigham Young University. There he met his dream girl, Anna Badnin, and they were married in June of 1970 in Manti, Utah. In March of 1974, Dale and Anna returned to Amarillo with three children in tow and raised their family there, where two more children were born. In 2000, Dale and Anna returned to Provo and resided in Utah where he taught Speech and English at Utah Valley University for 12 years. After retiring, the pair finally settled in Mesa, Arizona in 2021.

Dale was an avid reader and would visit his local libraries at least once a week for as long as his health allowed him. This passion for literature also manifested itself in the home library he built, one that his children and grandchildren still enjoy today. An enthusiastic writer himself, Dale produced his own works over the years, composing poems, short stories, and two novels: one set in Vietnam, and the other set in South Dakota. Growing up near the Black Hills instilled in him a love of mountains and trees. He also loved collecting models and toys from the 1950s and was an avid historian, with a particular interest in European and family history. His passion for learning was passed on to his children and grandchildren, as well as his particular tastes in music.

Dale was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and he left a legacy of enduring faith. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and his brother Roger. He is survived by his sister, Norma, his brothers Ronald, Donald, and Jarle, his loving wife Anna, and his children: Kevin, Joshua, Jonathan, Eric, and Chavah. He was also the proud Grandad to 15 grandchildren.

Dale is remembered for his intelligence, humor, faith, passion for learning, and his love for his family, who carries on his memory with pride.
