About Charles Ray Bumpous
We celebrate the life of Charles Ray Bumpous—a man whose journey began on July 24, 1945, in Quanah, Texas, and who peacefully passed on March 23, 2026, in Mesa, Arizona.
Ray lived a life grounded in strength, humility, and a deep love for his family. He was a devoted father, a provider, and a steady, reassuring presence to those who knew him best. He is survived by his son, Ken Bumpous, and Ken’s wife, Laurie, along with their sons, AJ, who preceded him in passing, and Noah. He also leaves behind his daughter, Susie Fitzgerald, her husband, Chris, and their children, Gracie and Ashton. Each of them carries forward not only his name, but his values, his lessons, and the quiet wisdom he shared throughout his life. To them, he was more than a father and grandfather—he was a guide, a protector, and a true example of resilience.
Ray found joy in life’s simple moments. One of his greatest pleasures was walking—moving at his own pace, taking in the world around him, and finding peace in the rhythm of each step. Whether during a quiet morning or an afternoon stroll, these moments reflected who he was: thoughtful, steady, and grounded, with a deep appreciation for the beauty God created.
He loved the Lord, Jesus Christ, and held strong to the hope and promise of faith in this life and the next. He looked forward to the day he would meet Jesus and be reunited with loved ones who had gone before him, especially his beloved wife, Linda.
Ray also enjoyed baseball and football, often spending hours watching games in his living room. He proudly cheered for Arizona teams—the Diamondbacks, Cardinals, and Sun Devils—as well as any team from Texas when Arizona was not playing.
He was not a man of excess or grand gestures—he didn’t need to be. His strength was found in his consistency, his reliability, and the quiet ways he showed up for those he loved. He taught by example through hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering sense of responsibility.
May we honor Ray by living with the same steadiness, the same appreciation for life’s simple blessings, and the same devotion to faith and family that he demonstrated each day.
Rest peacefully, Ray. Though your journey here is complete, your memory and your impact will walk with us always.
