About Carolyn Sarah Cox Biggs

Carolyn Sarah Cox Biggs, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by the love of her family.

Carolyn was born on July 15, 1932, in Glendale, Utah, to Maxwell Bruce Cox and Ruth Jorgenson Cox. As the oldest of 9 children, she grew up in a close-knit family that instilled in her a lifelong love of learning, service, and faith. Her childhood took her from Fairview, Utah, to Mesa, Arizona, where she formed lifelong friendships and graduated from Mesa High School, Class of 1950.

Education was one of Carolyn's greatest passions. She attended Brigham Young University but earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University and later a master's degree from Northern Arizona University, graduating with honors as a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

She met the love of her life, Bob Biggs, when they were called to be dance instructors for the youth. They married May 1st ,1953 and spent over 50 years together. While raising a family, She served in her church callings without hesitation as a Relief society president, primary chorister, activities chairman, and her latest job was teaching the 7 year old children who loved her dearly. Carolyn was also very involved in serving in the community and belonged to several clubs. She was a legacy member of Desert Club and spent countless hours making beautiful decorations for its annual Christmas Idea House. She was also a legacy member of Simada, and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers in which she was honored for her service.

But probably her greatest joy was teaching seminary at Westwood High school for over 15 years. She started as a substitute teacher but soon was hired full time becoming Arizona’s first female full time Seminary teacher. Up until her death, wherever she went, former students would come up to her and tell her how much she changed their life, or how much they loved her class.

She served a mission with her husband teaching seminary and institute in McAllen, Texas. They later served in the Mesa Arizona Temple. She continued to serve the youth teaching at ASU Institute of religion, and then the Gilbert Temple. Her faith in Jesus Christ guided every aspect of her life and was the foundation of her service to others.

All of these accomplishments weren’t important without the love of her family. She cherished her brothers and sisters, and the many Cox & Biggs family reunions and traditions. And she found her greatest happiness surrounded by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In her later years, Carolyn faced Alzheimer's disease with grace and dignity. Though the disease slowly took many memories, it never diminished the love she shared with those around her.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Darrel Biggs; her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Biggs; her daughter-in-law, Theresa Alexander Biggs; her grandson, Dallin Owen Robert Skousen; and her parents, Maxwell Bruce and Ruth Cox.

She leaves behind a large and loving posterity, 7 Children: Darrel Bruce Biggs and Cici, Bradley James Biggs, Carrie Biggs Schnepf and Mark, Robert Worth Biggs and Colleen, Diane Biggs Skousen and Tracy, John Daniel Biggs and Risë, Samuel Joseph Bellamy Biggs and Sheila. She has 29 grandchildren and 37 Great grandchildren, an auntie to numerous Cox & Biggs cousins all who will continue her legacy of love, faith and following Christ.

The family expresses a heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregivers, Tita and Jacklyne and their mother, Meleane.

Services will be held at the Gilbert Val Vista Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1005 N Voyager Dr, Gilbert, AZ 85234 on Monday, June 22, 2026 with a viewing at 3pm and funeral services at 4pm. She will be laid to rest at San Tan Memorial Gardens at Schnepf Farms in Queen Creek, Arizona.

Oh how I know there was a wonderful woman reunion with my mom Connie Brown Welker and your mom. She was my mom’s best friend and we loved hearing all of the stories of their childhood spent together! I know you will miss her so much. Prayers coming your way for the best memories and peace that she is with your dad again and free to remember everything once more.
