About Susan Hamblin Hawkins
The family of Susan Hamblin Hawkins, age 60, announces her sudden and unexpected passing on February 11, 2026. Susan leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service and hard work that will never be forgotten.
Born on May 5, 1965, in Mesa, Arizona to Dr. Lyle and JoAnn Hamblin, Susan was a vibrant soul who lived life abundantly every day while helping in her community with kindness and warmth. She attended Mesa Public Schools where she participated both as an athlete and a musician, playing basketball and the harp. She continued to play harp throughout her life and most recently enrolled for several semesters in harp ensemble with her daughter at Chandler Gilbert Community College.
Following high school, Susan attended ASU on scholarship where she earned a B.A. in History. She read books about history continuously and enjoyed discussing important world events with her family. She pursued her childhood dream of becoming an attorney and graduated with a Juris Doctorate from Brigham Young University. It was there that Susan Hawkins met her husband of 37 years, Mark W. Hawkins.
Susan began her career as a prosecutor for the City of Phoenix in 1993. She spent eight years at home raising her two children, a time she described as the happiest years of her life. She resumed practice at Hawkins and Hawkins, a law firm she partnered in with her husband, while also working as a contract public defender for the City of Mesa. After 15 years at the firm, she began working as a hearing officer with the City of Phoenix. She was honored to serve and loved the people she worked with at the court.
Susan’s life was devoted to building up her community, and she found joy in public service. Her life was spent teaching children in primary classes at her church, and she is loved and remembered by all the children she knew. She treated everyone with kindness and respect and sought to understand in order to truly connect with them.
Susan Hawkins is survived by her husband, Mark; children, Wade and Anna (Max) Christensen; cherished grandchild, Ian (10 months); siblings, Michael (Leesa) Hamblin, Diane (Tom) Koss, and John (Arien) Hamblin as well as by her beloved nieces, nephews, and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle Hamblin and Joann Hamblin.
Funeral services for Susan Hawkins will be Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 10 AM in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 925 N. Harris Drive Mesa, AZ 85203. There will be a visitation for family and by invite at 9 AM in the same location.
