About Janice Griffiths

Janice McGee Griffiths, of Mesa, AZ, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 21st 2026, at 85.

In her lifetime, Janice was known for her service to those around her, her contagious smile, and her love for her family. She sacrificed all she could to make sure they had what they needed and faced her many trials with unwavering faith.  Janice also showed her love of others through the arts. She used music to both entertain and comfort her children and wrote many poems for those around her.

Janice is survived by her siblings Patsy, Marlene, John, Gaylynne, and Teresa; her son Paris and daughters Janelle (husband Mark), Candace (husband Lonnie), Roxanne (husband DJ), and Rochelle. As well as 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Janice is preceded in death by her parents Maurine Ashcroft and Perle Dove White, her siblings Paris and Gary, her husband’s Elwood and Richard, her daughter Sherry, and grandchildren Justin and Janalynn.

Janice was born in Eager, Arizona in 1940 and grew up in Mesa, Arizona. She was the middle child of 8 children. Janice met Charles Elwood McGee at Mesa High School. The two were married in 1957 in Holbrook, AZ and moved to the Navajo reservation where they managed several different trading posts. They lived there for 12 years before moving the family to Phoenix. Janice became a single mother in 1979 when Elwood passed away. Later in life, she met Richard Griffiths on a blind date. Their relationship grew and they were married in 1996. Her family doubled and she loved it when everyone called her Grandma. Janice experienced many hardships in life, but she also saw many miracles. She believed in smiling and finding a reason to be happy every day.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7th at 11:00am located at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 940 E. Southern Ave., Mesa AZ. There will be a luncheon to follow the services. Burial of remains will be held at a later date in Holbrook, Arizona.
