Paula Sue Perkins, born November 18, 1947 and passed away peacefully on April 15, 2023 in Gilbert, Arizona

Paula was born in Electra, Texas to Bettie and Cloyce (John) Brooks. Paula was one of seven siblings. Paula married her husband, Harvey Perkins Jr. on 4/01/1964. They moved their family to Washington state in 1975 where she ultimately made her home for the next 43 years. In 2018 she moved from Stanwood, WA. to Chandler, Arizona to be next to her son and daughter in-law.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her husband Harvey Perkins, daughter Kimberly, sister Diana Wolf and brother Michael Brooks.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children Troy (Donna) and Tammie. Sisters, Melinda (Brad), Connie (Ralph), Trina (Michael) and Nita (Don). Grandchildren, Jordynn (Austin), Taylore (Kasey) and Kaylee (Brandon). Great-grandchildren, Brody, Beaux and Bentlee.

Donald Eugene Hall finished his early journey on April 30, 2023, in Mesa, AZ.  Donald or Don as many knew him, was born to Avard B Hall and Ethel Jan Hulsey Hall.  He grew up in the White Mountains and helped on his father’s ranch throughout his early years especially until he got married.  He grew up going to school in Nutrioso, Eagar, and St. Johns, Arizona.  He graduated high school from St. Johns High School and then served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Sacramento, California.

After his mission, he attended Eastern Arizona College where he received his Associates of Arts degree, but most importantly he met his “beautiful red head, the love of his life” Debra Jan Winkler.  They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona Temple, and they just celebrated their 47^th wedding anniversary this past March.   At the beginning of their marriage, he held a few jobs which included Fire Fighter, worked at the Petrified Forest, Truck Driver, Deputy at the Sheriff’s Office, City of St. Johns water district worker, and finally found his career at Salt River Project which he worked as a Heavy Duty Mechanic for 34 years and retired from there.   He also volunteered as a Firefighter in St. Johns, AZ.

During those years. Donald and Debra had 3 children: Corey, Michelle, and Monika which they raised for the majority of their young lives in St. Johns, AZ.  Many people knew Donald as Don, Don-Don, Scoutmaster, Coach, 4-H leader, Brother, Uncle, Dad, and Papa.  Donald and Debra moved to Apache Junction, AZ in 1999 and had a wonderful life there surrounded by family and friends.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for his entire life and served in many callings and assignments.   He loved always being on a lake fishing or even hunting up in the White Mountains.

Donald was preceded in death by his father Avard B Hall, mother Ethel Jane Hulsey Hall, granddaughter Mihaela Lowery, father in law James Rufus Winkler, and brother in law Russell Winkler. He is survived by many who love him and will miss him dearly. These include his wife Debra Jan Hall (Winkler), Corey (Michelle) Hall, Michelle (Javier) Garcia, Monika (Michael) Lowery, his Mother in Law Janice Hatch Winkler, step Mother in Law Katherine Winkler, his sister Rossland (Stanley) Trull, his brother in Law Rodney Winkler.  Grandkids: Austin Ross, Chelsey Garcia, Makaden Lowery, Bailey Garcia, Masen Lowery, Javier Garcia (JD), Madysen Lowery, Maxten Lowery, Madden Lowery,  Madelyn Lowery, and Kathryn (Miguel) Magallanes, Frank Valdez, Anthony (Rosie) Valdez, a few grand kids, nieces, and nephews.

A public viewing will be held in his honor on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Bunker Funeral Home at 3529 E University Dr in Mesa from 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm.   His graveside burial service will be held at the Alpine Cemetery on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 1:00 pm.

Louise “Weezie” Harris passed from this life on the evening of April 19, 2023, at the age of 96.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Harris; by her parents, Vernon and Nellie Johnson; and by her siblings, Vernell Johnson, Laurel Rowe Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Marva Johnson, Beulah Johnson, Francis Lynn Johnson, and Clifford Eugene Johnson.  She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children Paula Williams (Morris), Ed Harris (Brenda), Cathy Fritz (Franko), and Lori Huffaker (Darin).

Mom was born in Chandler, AZ.  She grew up during the Great Depression and met her future husband at the start of the Korean War.  They were married and would live where the Air Force sent them – Arizona, Texas, Scotland, France, Washington, Iran, Florida, Mississippi, and New Mexico before coming back home to Arizona.

They spent their retirement years eating out and enjoying life.  Mom was a talented artist, poet, and journal keeper.  She will be remembered for her love of family, kindness, generosity, laughter, and amazing pies, cakes, bread, and fried chicken.

Everyone who knew her loved her, especially her 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends, we are all so grateful to have had her in our lives.

On April 17, 2023, Brenda Sheryl Gardner passed away peacefully at age 82 at her home in Mesa, Arizona.  Sheryl was the mother of five children.  However, many people considered her their surrogate and part-time mother. Mom loved growing up in Mesa AZ, raising her family in Torrance CA, and retiring to Lakeside AZ.

When Sheryl’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist.  It was normal for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked.  But even by the standards of that time, Sheryl was a wonderful wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family, church, and community. She was always working on a “project” to benefit her family and friends.  She loved sewing, fashion, and movies.

Sheryl is survived by her husband Bryce, sons Gary (Carolyn) and Ty (Jill), daughters Jolene (Greg), Diana (Tim), and Amy (Jeremy), and twenty grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend Debra “Debbie” Jo Hatch passed away April 20^th, 2023 at her home in Gilbert, Arizona. Debbie was born on December 29^th 1952 to Lillian Sams Earl and William Thayne Earl.

Debbie attended Hawthorne Elementary, OE Bell Junior High School, and Skyline High School in Idaho Falls, ID. She graduated in 1970. She loved her many friends who touched her life for good during these years.

She married Barlow Nelson Hatch on August 8^th 1974 in the Idaho Falls Temple and were blessed with 4 beautiful children.  They later divorced.

She attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho for a short time before training as a Dental Assistant which she did for several years. She held several jobs over her life including working in the emergency room, medical offices, and travel agent. Her favorite job of all was that of mother and grandmother. She lived for the lives of her children and grandchildren and loved being involved in and supporting all their activities and pursuits. She said many times, “All I ever wanted to be was a mother and grandmother.”

Her hobbies included water & snow skiing, camping with family, cooking, decorating, traveling, doting on her grandkids, shopping, returning to Idaho Falls for the 4^th of July Parade, and vacationing at Island Park.

Debbie was a loving and faithful disciple of Jesus Christ and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with a testimony of the restored gospel.  She loved her many callings of which her favorite was working in the Mesa & Gilbert AZ temples. She was a gifted decorator and homemaker, known widely for her cooking and yummy cinnamon rolls. She loved any reason to get family and loved ones together to throw a party complete with an abundance of homemade food and fun.  She was a people person and loved to hear the stories of her friends while sharing in their joys, struggles and successes.

Debbie is survived by her children Joshua (Angie) Hatch of Franklin, TN, Sean (Kursty) Hatch of Queen Creek, AZ, Elisha (Brett) Romney of Gilbert, AZ and Derek (Colette) Hatch of Colorado Springs, CO, brother Dennis (Susan) Earl of Mesa, AZ, sister Susan (Brent) Williams of Gilbert, AZ, brother-in-law Dale Jensen of Idaho Falls, ID and 19 grandchildren Cody, Gavin, Kayla, Makenzie, Taylor, Mattelyn, Maddison, Draysen, Kenadee, Baylee, Jaxson, Micah, Kembria, Ellie, Ronan, Andrew, Hudson, and Noelle.

She was preceded in death by her father Wm Thayne Earl, mother Lillian Sams, sister Gayla Jensen, and grandson Easton Hatch.

In accordance with Mom’s wishes, there will be a graveside service held for family and close friends. She will be laid to rest at Gilbert Memorial Park Cemetery in Gilbert AZ.

Justin Counter of Mesa, AZ  passed away at his home on Monday, April 17, 2023.

Services will be held at Bunker University Chapel on Friday, April 28th, 2023 at 11am.  Interment will be at Mesa Cemetery in Section 217 Lot 1.

Justin Jeffrey was born on February 16, 1986 to Clifford L. Counter and Kay D. (Counter) Baylor at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ.  He attended Mesa Public Schools and graduated from Mesa High School in 2004. He worked in the IT Industry in various positions.

Justin was self-taught on many subjects including computers, self-defense, photography, languages, religions, psychology, and dog training. He had a wicked sense of humor and always looked for opportunities to prank people. A favorite family memory is when his grandmother was scooping ice cream to prepare a dessert for his graduation party. When she turned around to grab a spoon, he took the ice cream container and put it up on top of the ceiling fan blade. He let her think she was going senile for a minute or so before grabbing it and putting it back down. Justin loved music and online gaming as well. He participated in many online communities and was fondly known as Germz.

He is survived by his parents, step-father Keith Baylor of Mesa, AZ, brothers Joshua (Brittany) Ross of Safford, AZ, Stephen Bradenburg of Mesa, AZ, sisters Dr. Krista (Edwin) Puruhito of Mesa, Arizona, Dr. Nicole (Norman) Banks of Poulsbo, WA, Araceli Counter of El Paso, TX,  Grandmother Janis Draheim of Mesa, AZ, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather Bill Draheim, paternal grandparents, Cliff and Myrna Counter, infant brother Jason Ross, uncles Eddie Post, Mark Draheim, and Jeff Draheim, and many much beloved 4 legged friends including his most beloved Scout.

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Larry Ralph Porter, age 78, passed away suddenly at home on April 12, 2023. Born August 17, 1944 to Ralph H. and Helen F. Porter in Ashland, KY, he moved to Ohio, then Utah, and spent his last 40 years in Mesa, AZ.

Larry was a journeyman machinist and at one time owned an auto body shop. As a machinist, he machined a part for the Apollo program on the rocket that traveled to the moon.

Larry was a family man who adored nature and Mother Earth. He loved camping, hiking, fishing, hunting (he called it “camping with a gun”) and anything with a motor. He kept many recreational vehicles running so his family could play endlessly in nature’s playground. He held a special interest in aircraft and took his family to the Reno Air Races for years.

Missing Larry are his wife of 60 years, Linda (Hill) Porter, his children Michelle Porter, Melissa Cordovana (Joseph), and Sean Porter (Janet). His adoring grandchildren, Joseph Cordovana, Meghann Cordovana, Zachary Porter, and Jacob Porter will all miss him so much. He is also survived by his sister, Ina George.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Carol Murray and Marilyn Carson, and a baby brother, Alva Porter.

Larry will be cremated and no funeral service will be held, per his request. A celebration of his life will be held this summer.

Dennis Howard Scott passed away peacefully on April 16, 2023, at the age of 94 years in Mesa, Arizona.  Dennis is lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years, Argyle Anderson Scott, and his children, Bradley Scott (Kelli) of Mesa, AZ; Susan (Brian) Call of Las Vegas, NV; and Gregory Scott (Jennifer) of Gilbert, AZ; and grandchildren Matthew (Sarah), Alisha Coleman (Josh), Spencer, Travis (Marissa), Erin Burris (Michael), Jonathan, Brett (Lindsay) Call, Chelsea Brown (Cameron), Michael (Chelsea) Call, Tyler (Camryn), Ryan, Dylan, Hayden; and 13 great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents Howard and Lylia Scott, brothers Robert (Joan), Frederic “Buzz” (Marie), Wallace (Aileen) and sister Margaret.

Dennis was born in Calgary and lived his childhood and youth in Nacmine and Drumheller areas of Alberta.  He worked in the petroleum industry for some 40 years and was employed by Imperial Oil, Great Plains Development Company and Norcen Energy Resources.  He was a member of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and worked primarily in administrative capacities.  He will be remembered as a hard worker and a man who appreciated and loved his family.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in several capacities in the Church.

Following retirement Dennis and Argyle traveled extensively.  They purchased a home in Mesa, Arizona and enjoyed winters in Arizona and Nevada, returning to Calgary in the summer months.  Dennis knew he had been blessed with an abundant life which he attributed to his loving wife, his family, friends and the Church.

Services and interment will be in Mesa, Arizona. Flowers gratefully declined. If you so choose, donations may be made to your local heart fund.

James Edward Odom Jr. (aka Jim, Jimmy, Coach Odom) passed away peacefully on April 14th, 2023 in Mesa, Arizona. He was born to the late James Edward Odom Sr. and Pearlie Jones on July 12th, 1942 in El Dorado, Arkansas. His family relocated to Los Angeles, California when he was around the age of 2. He accepted Christ at the young age of 5 and lived his whole life as a devout Christian.

He was a graduate of John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles at the age of 17 where he then served 4 years active duty in the United States Navy as an airplane electrician. He was honorably discharged as a Petty officer second class.

In 1963, he started his career as a customer engineer at IBM and then worked his way up to Senior Associate Programmer, where he retired after 30 years.

His passions included listening to music, flying small aircraft, coaching track and field, studying the bible and theology, reading and writing, and doing pranks on his friends and family members (which were often reciprocated). He often indulged in ice cream, root beer, Jack in the Box, strawberry milkshakes, and Snickers. He enjoyed baking his grandmother’s pound cake.

He played the flute and was also a DJ at a local radio station from time to time. He was often found listening to Jazz, R&B, and most recently, Hawaiian Island music.

He coached several hurdlers who became elite and world class athletes. He was an amazing coach and sought out by many schools all throughout California and Oregon.

James is survived by his sister (Judy Williams), his son (Jimmy Odom), his daughter (Jennifer Odom), and 3 grandchildren (Jevin Odom, Javanna Odom, and Justus Odom); along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his mother, father, 2 sisters, and grandparents.

His final wish was to be cremated and scattered across the Pacific Ocean.

Dianne Weber, 57, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2023 in her home in Mesa, AZ. Dianne led a happy life surrounded by her family, friends, and pets. She enjoyed spending time with loved ones, playing bells at church, and solving puzzles of all kinds!  She was adored by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Tawna, and her sister, Suzy.

James Ival Hunsaker age 88, of Caldwell, OH formerly of Mesa, AZ passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, OH. He was born October 7, 1934 in Mesa, AZ a son of the late Ival R. and Elda Ashcroft Hunsaker.

He served and protected his nation in the US Marine Corps in the Korean War. Jim retired from the Air Research Company in Phoenix, AZ. He was a longtime member of the Noble County Cruzers car club. For many years he loved hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and racing sand drags. Jim’s favorite times were spent hunting from the back of his horse Cid and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepmother Lydia G. Hunsaker; wife Patricia Ann Boord Hunsaker, whom he married February 11, 1966 and who passed June 7, 2013 and son Mark Ival Hunsaker who passed June 21, 2022.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children Lynne (Darrel) Frost of Rincon, GA, Leanora H. Cotter of St. George, UT, Holly (Art) Chavez of Caldwell, James Perry (Brenda) Hunsaker of Higley, AZ, and Shawna (Roy) Winters of Ruskin, FL; daughter-in-law Kayleen Hunsaker of Gilbert, AZ; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews;  special cousin Colleen Manning of Keizer, OR; sisters-in-law Nancy (Joseph) Clark, Sheron Lowry, Garla (Scott) Porter; and former wife Glenna Lee Knight.

The family will receive friends for visitation Monday, April 24, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A funeral service will conclude visitation Monday, April 24, 2023 at 6:00 PM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Maureen Schultice officiating. Military honors will follow, conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.

Sharon L Edwards, born October 24, 1937 passed away peacefully on April 13, 2023 in Mesa, Arizona.

Sharon was born in Springfield, Illinois to Faye and Albert Jackson and moved to Arizona in 1976. Sharon’s warm smile and welcoming presence made her a friend to all that met her. Sharon was active in her faith and served as a church organist/pianist for many years.  Sharon is preceded in death by her son John A Edwards, and survived by her brother Phil Jackson, children Beth Miller, Jeff Edwards and Kim Montana, and grandchildren John, Amira, Mariah, Madison, Morgan, Allie, Kate and Jack, and great granddaughter Kalah.

A service in celebration of Sharon’s life will be held on Sunday, May 7th at 3:00pm at North Scottsdale United Methodist Church, 11735 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85254. There will be a reception held at the church immediately following the service.

Tonia “Toni” Gale Skousen passed from this life on the evening of April 12th at the age of 80.  She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.  Her husband, Bob Skousen, having preceded her in death in February of 2016.  Toni was born in San Francisco to Carmen & Sue Cavalieri. She grew up in Sonora, California until she graduated High School.  She attended Modesto Jr. College for a brief time before deciding to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.  This was where she met the love of her life Robert “Bobby” Skousen.  They married in June 1961.  They started a life and raised their family in Mesa, Arizona where they had many friends and acquaintances.

She was a world traveler, animal lover, art collector, fabulous cook, rosarian, archaeology enthusiast, and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a great example and left behind wonderful memories for her family and friends to cherish forever.

Left to honor her memory are her children: Dayna Porter (Steve), Robert Jeffrey Skousen (Jan), Lisa Latham (Don), and Bryan Skousen.  She has 12 Grandchildren & 8 Great Grandchildren. Elvin Byde Fuller was born September 21 1942 in Mesa Arizona to Elvin Byron Fuller and Alberta Amanda Millett. He was their 5th child and only son. Byde served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints to the Central States mission. When he came home he married Pam Sherwood in The Mesa Arizona Temple on December 17, 1964. Byde lived a life of service to his family, community and church. Byde and Pam have 6 children, 30 grand Children and 11 Great Grandchildren. Byde is survived by his wife Pam and their children Jennifer (Jeff) Cox, Scott (Shelby) Fuller, Doug (Heather) Fuller, David (Kim) Fuller, Julie (Courtney) Fischbeck, Chris (Myrona) Fuller and his sister Sherrol Horton.

Byde worked for Fotomat, Merritt One, Fox Photo and Kolhase Realty over his career. Doing Commercial real estate for each of these companies. During Byde’s 5 years as Bishop of the 16th Ward in Maricopa Stake he started the tradition of dressing up as Santa on Christmas eve and visiting all the families with Children in his ward. Byde brought each child a candy cane and a roll of Poppits (bubble wrap).

Byde and Pam served a mission in 2013 to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City Utah. Byde loved to garden and in his younger years he had a passion for Photography. Byde loved books and especially Church history books. A favorite past time was to go to Deseret Industries and look for treasures. Byde was known for his punctuality. If you are on time you are already 15 minutes late to him. He passed this down to all of his children. Byde will be missed but we are thrilled for him to be free from the Alzheimers that took him from us, and is now reuniting with so many family members who have gone before him.

There will be a visitation for Byde Fuller Friday, April 21, 2023 between 6-8:00 pm at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N Centennial Way Mesa, AZ 85201.

The Funeral will be Saturday April 22, 2023, with a viewing prior to the service starting at 9:00 am, and the service beginning at 10:00 am, at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1455 N Harris Drive (Building North of Brown Rd, South of McKellips), Mesa, AZ 85203. Timothy Allan Winn, beloved father, son, brother, and friend died unexpectedly Saturday April 8, 2023, at the age of 44. Tim was born the eldest of four children and spent his childhood in Maricopa County, Arizona, moving to Orange County, California in his early teens. He graduated from Trabuco Hills High School where he was on the track team his Junior and Senior years. As a young adult, Tim moved to Utah, but ultimately missed his childhood home in Arizona and made his way back after a few years in Utah. In 2007, Tim met and married his former wife, Carrie Bond in the Mesa, Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In the following years his sons Gregory (2009) and Trent (2011) were born and were the greatest joys in his life.

Tim loved to explore, whether it be new hiking trails, desert caves, or hidden nooks along the Southern California shore. He loved rockhounding, anything comic related, visiting new places, and reading. He read several books a week and was virtually never seen without a book in hand. Tim loved being a father and spending time with his boys, and especially enjoyed sharing his exploratory spirit and favorite hobbies with them.

Tim was a very loving and deeply caring person. He was able to see beauty in things that others did not see, both in nature and in people. He was kind, compassionate, and was always looking out for those less fortunate than himself. Despite the challenges Tim faced in his own life with autism and depression, he always cheered on his loved ones and was sincerely enthusiastic about their accomplishments. He had an amazing sense of humor and was always quick to share funny riddles, jokes, and memes. When he flashed his playful and mischievous smile, you knew he was about to tell you something funny or clever. He knew so much about so many things and always had fascinating facts to share. Many were quick to see his light and the unique and beautiful contribution he made to this world.

Tim is survived by his sons, Gregory and Trent, his mother, Joy Porter, his father and stepmother, William and Leigh Anne Winn, his sisters, Windy Tanner (Jason) and Katie Gooch (Jeremy), his brother, Matthew Winn (Diana), and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Avon and E. Allan Brooks and Doris and Robert Winn.

Funeral services, followed by a celebration of life, will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel at 1430 N. Grand, Mesa, Arizona 85201 at 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 15, 2023. These events are open to all who wish to pay their respects. A family-only viewing and graveside dedication will take place on April 14, 2023. Tim’s ashes will be interred at the gravesite of his grandparents, Avon and Allan Brooks, at the City of Mesa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please seek out those who may feel isolated or different, hold your loved ones close, and spread kindness. If you would like to donate to a cause, the family would deeply appreciate donations made to causes or organizations supporting those with autism or mental illness. Because of Tim’s love of reading, donations to causes promoting literacy would also be most welcome.
