Penrod, Clay Leroy, age 34, was born in Mesa, Arizona on December 1, 1975 to Lynette Reed and Wayne Penrod, married Emily Rose Hansen on June 13, 1997, and passed away on March 2, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona. He is survived by his mother and father, his wife Emily, and his 4 children, Porter, Charise, Hansen, and Jamison. He is also survived by his 3 brothers, Tim (Kathy), Grant (Skyler), and Reed (Stepheny), and his 3 sisters, Ila Reynolds (Nathan), Alice Walker (Dathan), and Suzy Miller (Jeremy). He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Grant Penrod, and Clay and Ila Reed. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 6 -8 pm at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, Arizona. Another viewing will take place on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 9 am at the LDS church located at 2549 N. 32nd St. in Mesa, followed by funeral services at 10 am. Clay was a friend to many. We love him and will miss him.

Irie Morey Beach, 19 passed away February 25, 2010 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Wake services will be Thursday, March 4 at 6:00 PM at Salt River Memorial Hall, 9849 E. Earll Dr. in Scottsdale. Funeral services will be Friday, March 5, 2010 at 8 AM, also at Salt River Memorial Hall. Interment will follow at the Salt River Cemetery. Arrangements by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.

Edward J. Ball, Jr., passed away on Monday, February 22, 2010 at his home in Mesa, Arizona. Ed is survived by his father, Edward J. Ball; son, Edward J. Ball III; sisters, Peggy J. Jones, Azelene Allen and Patricia Gail Armstrong, three grand-daughters, Courtney, Cassidy and Chloe Ball, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved border collie, Kadie. Ed was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1948. He was a prominent commercial real estate developer in Ventura County, California for many years. Ed loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He will be missed by his loving family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010, 6-8pm at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 East University Drive, Mesa, Arizona

Kristi Sherwood Crum passed away, Tuesday, February 23, 2010 after a year-long battle with cancer.

Kristi Rowley was born January 19, 1955 in Mesa, Arizona to Arden and Ruth Rowley. She graduated from Mesa High School in 1973. Kristi married Phil Sherwood in February 1975 and together they raised 4 children. Kristi and Phil were married for 27 years and in 2003 she lost her husband, Phil to lung cancer.

Kristi was married to Richard Crum in December 2004 and together they blended a family of 10 children and 25 grandchildren.

Kristi is survived by her parents, Arden and Ruth Rowley; her husband, Richard Crum; sons Justin (Amy), Travis (Lacey), and Clayton; and her daughters Hillary (Brian), Afton and McKenzie (Christian).

A viewing will be held Sunday evening, Feb. 28th, at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University Drive, Mesa, AZ from 6:00-8:00p.m. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 1, 2010 at the LDS Kimball East Stake Center, 4640 E. Holmes, Mesa, AZ 85206, at 10:00a.m., with visitation 1 hr. prior.

H. Bruce Gunnell, 64, passed away February 21, 2010 from cancer. He was born February 5, 1946 in Phoenix, AZ and was a 1964 graduate of Mesa High. He attended BYU and ASU and served an LDS mission in Argentina, followed by a lifetime of service in the church. He owned Scottsdale Big O Tires and later Blinds by Bruce. He was a loving husband, father and papa. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sally and children Michael, Natalie (Martinez), Glen, Becky (Wilcken), 15 grandchildren, and siblings Joyce, Arlene, and Gary. The viewing is Thursday, Feb. 25 from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa. Funeral services are Friday, Feb. 26 at 10 AM preceded by a viewing at 9 AM at the LDS Mesa North Stake Center, 933 E. Brown Rd. Donations may be made to the LDS General Mission fund or Hospice of the Valley.

Helen Hallsey Dunlap passed away February 18, 2010, of natural causes. Helen was born August 13, 1917, in American Fork, Utah, to Ella Erlynne Clark and James Franklin Hallsey. She was the youngest of four children. She graduated from American Fork High School and worked as a telephone operator, before she was swept off her feet by a handsome southern gentleman, Warren Dunlap. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple August 17, 1938, and treasured their membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Warren built their home in Salt Lake where they lived for the next 50 years. Two daughters were born, Carolyn and Pamela. Helen was a devoted mother and homemaker. Warren and Helen opened their home and entertained often, making it an art. She loved beautiful things and kept an immaculate home, teaching her daughters the fine art of cooking and homemaking as well as the principles of the living gospel of Jesus Christ. She held many positions of service in the LDS Church.

Helen worked at Auerbach’s department store for over twenty years, where she kept her daughters outfitted in style. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, to whom she was doting and devoted. Her over night sleepovers are memorable even to this day in the minds of those who received of her pampering.

In her later years she moved to Mesa, Arizona, to be close to her younger grandchildren, and she made sure they had plenty of homemade macaroni and cheese. Her style and grace have charmed those who had the privilege of knowing her.

A special thanks to Patti and Jim Jones and family, who have been special angels to her and cared for her, as if she were a queen, at the end of her life.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Goodworth Ford, and Pam D. Agren and son-in law Dr. Stuart Agren. Grandchildren are Kristin G. Haderlie (Scott), Shannon G. Bray (Scott), Warren R. Goodworth (Allison), Megan G. Richards (Weylin), Jennifer A. Barbier (Geoff), Stacy A. DeLange (Eric), Carl S. Agren (April), Katie A. Andersen (Mark), Jessica Agren, Clayton Agren, Austin Agren, 35 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Warren Dunlap, and three siblings, James Floyd Hallsey, Alice Nielsen and Mildred Peters. Also preceding her in death were granddaughter Allison Goodworth Burton and great-granddaughter Bridgette Lilly Andersen.

We will miss your beautiful smile, your pleasant spirit, and your enduring love.

Amos Clarence Fred Horstmann, 71, passed away Feb. 20, 2010 in Mesa, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Minnie Horstmann. He is survived by his wife Jane and children Michael Gridley, James Gregory Horstmann, Jeffery Horstmann, Lisa Jane Crook, Shelly Thompson, John Crook Jr., 18 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and 3 brothers Floyd of Paducah, KY, Paul of St. Anne, IL, and Kenneth of Iroquois, IL. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 25 from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa and one hour before the services. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 26 at 10:00 AM at the LDS Citrus Heights Stake Center, 2549 N. 32nd St. in Mesa.

Mary Jane Shaw, 93, of Friendship Village, Tempe, passed away on February 19, 2010. Beloved wife of the late Milton Clayton, loving mother of Barbara Jane (Paul) Zitzewitz and the late Milton Stanley, supportive grandmother of Eric (Christine Foley) and Karin Jane (Sean Pue) Zitzewitz, and doting great-grandmother of Zachary, Zoe, and Alexander Zitzewitz and Clara Jane Pue. A graduate of Temple University in French and Latin, Mary Jane was a homemaker who traveled the world and welcomed countless students to her home. She loved word games, crossword puzzles, and a good game of bridge. She will be missed by her family and friends. A family memorial service will be held in Traverse City, Michigan, later this summer. Memorial tributes to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, 85014, are suggested.

Phillips, Helene, 89, our mother passed away February 19, 2010 in Tempe, AZ. Born on Dec. 4, 1920, in Jerome, ID to Orson Robinson and Kathryn Horn. She was married to John Phillips on March 4, 1940. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, 6 brothers, 2 sisters and granddaughter Jaimie. Helene is survived by 3 children, Valle Lindsey, Penny Phillips, John Phillips (Rita), 11 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held, Wednesday, February 24th at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, from 6:00-8:00p.m. Funeral services Thursday, February 25th, 11:00a.m. at the LDS Tempe Stake Center, 2707 S College Ave, Tempe, with visitation 1 hr. prior to service. An elect lady with many talents who will be greatly missed. In the tradition of your love and service, we will carry on.

Robert A. Johnson, 76, of Gilbert, AZ died peacefully at home Monday. Born in Brockton, MA to Arthur and Ruth Johnson; he was Vice President at Brockton Hospital and President of the Goddard Hospital Stoughton, MA. An avid golfer and reader, whose humor and kindness were recognized by all; he joins his son Scott who died in 2008, and is survived by his wife Gayle Maroon Johnson, daughter Cheryl Spear, son Kevin, brothers, Arthur, Ernest, and Larry, grandchildren Douglas and Donald Spear, Samantha and Jamie Johnson, and countless friends. Celebrations of Bob’s life are being planned for the near future in both AZ and MA. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the ALS Association.

Joseph Lawrence LeQuia went to eternal rest on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, after an extended stay at Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa. He was born July 6, 1929 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, MI to Joseph N. and Rose A. (Pepin) LeQuia. Joseph and Helen were residents of Niagara, WI and are current residents of Good Life Resort in Mesa for 20 years. They were married on August 9, 1948. He is survived by his wife Helen, six children Michael LeQuia, James (Cindy) LeQuia, Susan Johnson, Carol (Dan) St. Arnauld, Richard (Tammy) LeQuia, and Joseph (Emily) LeQuia. He has 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard, Ken, Paul, and Francis. He is survived by his sisters Theresa, and Rosemary and his brother Bob. He worked many years for Red Owl Corporation, then built his own store LeQuia’s Foodland in Niagara, WI. Coming from outside of Niagara, he really enjoyed meeting, working with and becoming a part of the community. After selling the store he went to work for Culligan Water and then to D & L Plumbing in Iron Mountain, MI. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed playing pool and horseshoes. He was nicknamed “Joe Fix It
