Mary Narro Lort, 76, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2012 in Mesa, Arizona. She was born September 8, 1936 to Sid and Lovena Patton in Antrim County, Michigan. Mary lived a happy, active life filled with many family members and close friends. She was blessed with the gift of creativity allowing her to share things beautifully crafted or hand sewn, with many dear to her heart. She loved sewing and flowers and worked for many years as a retail Floral Designer. In 1952 she married Joe Narro and for over 20 years, lived a military life together raising their four daughters; Marcy Marsden of Mesa, AZ; Pam Graves (Richard) of West Dover, VT; Teresa Martin (Mark) of Mesa, AZ; and Holly Klapper of Tempe, AZ. After the untimely death of her first husband, she later re-married Joe Lort, whose daughters are Susie Brister (Bob) of Wellington, NV; and Jan Christie (Rick) of Palm Desert, CA. Mary was preceded in death by both husbands, her parents Sid and Lovena, two brothers Dick and Jack, four sisters Waneta, Agnes, Mabel and Shirley, brothers in-law, John, Hugh, Gay and Ron, sister in-law, Rowena, sons-in-law, Rob Graves and Dennis Marsden. She is survived by her four daughters, two step-daughters, three siblings; brother Dave Patton (Maureen) and two sisters Vera Gordon and Wanda Wolgamott (Bub) and her sister in-law Jean and brother in-law Jim. Mary deeply loved her eight grandchildren; Austin, Heather, Blake, Tanner, Melissa, Clayton, Sarah and Heather, and her twelve great grandchildren; Zoe, Mackenzie, Allie, Brylie, Will, Rachael, Bailey, Alex, Kyle, Dylan, Emily and Karissa. Mary also is survived by siblings of both her husbands, who she dearly loved. Known for her selfless service to others and her devotion to friends and family, she will be missed by all.

Lenore (Starling) Dillon, age 78, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2012 in Chandler, Arizona. She was born in Gila Bend to Leonard and Violet Starling in 1934. She resided for many years in Miami, Arizona where she raised her children and worked as a Distributor for Vivian Woodard Cosmetics and census taker for the Federal Census Bureau. She later returned to school and earned a Degree as a Registered Nurse. Lenore finished raising her children in Tempe, AZ and was preceded in death by her father, husband and sister. Lenore is survived by her four children Randy, Rebecca, Danny and Arlo, her mother Violet, her niece Cheryl, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Roy Ishmel Reed (ISH), 84 passed away September 28, 2012 in Gilbert, AZ surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was a hard-working, keeper of the Faith, who leaves a great legacy to his family and all who knew him. He truly loved his God with all his heart, might, mind and strength and showed it in everything he did. He is now reunited in paradise with his wife Betty Gaskins Reed, 3 sons David Michael Reed, David Elbert Reed & Jonathon Eugene Reed, 2 great-grandchildren Mateo Patron & Milana Pelt, his parents Ollie & Sarilda Reed and his siblings Marshall Reed, Troy Reed & Opal Howell.

He will be forever loved and missed by his children. Ken (Gilda) Reed, Tony Reed, DeeDee (Gregg) Merrill and foster daughter Liddia (Ephriam) Tauglechee, 16 Grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Thursday, October 4th at the LDS Chapel in Coolidge, AZ 580 North 9th St, Coolidge, AZ 85128. The viewing is from 5-6pm, service is from 6-730 followed by a Dads root beer float Social. A 2nd Service will be held in his beloved home town of Alleene, AR on Monday, October 8th at 10 am at the Alleene Community Center, Alleene, AR followed by the graveside dedication with military honors at the Alleene Cemetery.

It is with a sad heart and unwavering faith that we inform you of the death of our mother and grandmother, Elaine Goddard Gibbs. She passed away Friday evening, September 28, 2012, in Mesa, Arizona. Our mother, Elaine, was born October 24, 1924, to William and Lillian Matthias Goddard in Ogden, Utah. She married her high school sweetheart, George H. Gibbs in the Salt Lake City Temple October 5, 1942, for time and all eternity. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers and sisters. She is lovingly remembered, and missed by her children: Michele (Davis) Knight, Randy (Paula) Gibbs, Zana (Tom) Cox and Kelly Gibbs. We will be eternally thankful for her and our dad’s sacrifices on our behalf. Our mother leaves her legacy of love for family with 17 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. There will be a visitation held October 5, 2012 at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ. She will be buried in the American Fork City cemetery next to her eternal sweetheart. As per our mother’s request, there will be no formal funeral.

Brenda Flowers passed away peacefully September 30, 2012 in Queen Creek, Arizona. Brenda was born January 7, 1946 in Chinquapin, NC and led a life dedicated to the service of her family, her church and all those with whom she came into contact. Brenda always had a smile on her face and greeted everyone like a long lost friend. She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Franklin Maready, and survived by her husband of 47 years, Dwain Flowers, her daughter Pam and husband Tim Stufflebeam, daughter Kathy Flowers, son Joey and wife Marci Flowers and daughter Jackie and husband David Kennedy; grandchildren Jordan, Tyler, Tanner and Kaitlin Stufflebeam, Raechel, Jaren, Karli, Dawson and Jase Flowers, Kaden and Kaycie Kennedy; Mother Effie Maready, brother LeRoy and wife Ann Maready. A memorial service celebrating her life and legacy will be held Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at 6PM at the LDS church building at 19413 S. Sossaman Rd. in Queen Creek. Ralph Marvin Arrington, 81, of Mesa, Arizona; passed away September 28, 2012. A Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Monday, October 8th at Bunker’s University Chapel with Funeral Services held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Aspen Ward, 1249 S. 48th St. in Mesa. Interment will be held at Mesa City Cemetery.

Diana Crane Seiter, 79, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on Sept. 28, 2012 in Mesa, AZ. She was born to Ellis and Melba Crane in Salt Lake City, Utah on Dec. 20, 1932. She married Arthur Dale Seiter on December 23, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on August 21, 1956. Along with raising 4 boys, Diana had a very full life, with talents of self-taught oil painting, genealogy, piano and organ playing. The first four years of their marriage was spent at Mtn. Home Air Force Base, in Idaho, there they had 2 sons, Dwayne Lee and Kenneth Bryan. Upon finalizing his obligation to the Air Force they returned to Salt Lake City where Art joined his father’s floor covering business and the family settled in Murray, Utah where they had 2 more sons Robert Arthur and David Eugene. Diana was always an advocate for her boys and her husband. She was also actively involved in her boy’s education. They enjoyed many family vacations, and their family time together. In 1978 the family moved to Scottsdale, AZ for Diana’s health, where Arthur and Diana started a family business in floor coverings. After a short time they moved to Mesa, AZ where they currently reside. The son’s married, family grew, grandkids and great grandkids were added. Diana and Arthur have had many special moments together in their 60 years of marriage. They had opportunities to travel, such as their trip to England where they worked on genealogy and met many family members that they correspond with still. Diana was active in many charities and organizations, such as the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Diana was preceded in death by her mother, Melba Baggaley Crane; father Ellis Crane and a half-brother Shirl Crane, great grandson Chase Bryan Hunt, and great nephew Lee Connely Brown Borup. Diana is survived by sister Cheryl Crane Borup and Kent Borup and her sons and daughter in laws Dwayne Lee (Patti Edwards), Kenneth Bryan (Calie Skinner), Robert Arthur (Jenifer Allen) and David Eugene (Tracy Dalrymple), grandchildren: Shawni, Mindy, Wesley, Travis, Brooke, Joshua, Nicole, Heather, Megan, Kyle, Angela, Jed, Jake, Austin, Hayley and 33 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday Oct. 3, 2012 from 6-8pm at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 North Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ 85201. John Frederick Quade, 94, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Vandalia, IL, passed away September 26, 2012 in Mesa. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, February 19th at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL. Mr. Quade was born November 12, 1917 in Brownstown, IL, Son of Frank E. and Edith L. Quade. He was a 1935 graduate of Brownstown High School and attended Browns Business School in Centralia, IL. Mr. Quade was married to Mildred E. Harris on January 18, 1941. He was in the Navy during World War II and served in the South Pacific for two years. He worked for FS Services, now Growmark, from 1945 to 1979 retiring from Kingston Mines River Terminal as supervisor of the Ammonia Terminal. Mr. Quade was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, attended Community Chapel in Trailer Village in Mesa and became a member of Velda Rose Methodist Church in Mesa. He was active in Cub and Boy Scouts, while his sons were growing up. Mr. Quade and his family spent many vacations camping in their travel trailer. He was a member of the Masons. Mr. Quade is survived by his wife: Mildred, of 71 years; his sister: Rosemary Carson of Godfrey, IL; two sons: Fred Quade of DeKalb, IL, Gary Quade of Tempe, AZ; and four grandchildren: Emily, John, Cameron and Keaton. His parents preceded him in death.

Mary Louise Perry Hoffman passed away peacefully, September 21st, 2012 in Mesa, AZ. Mary Louise was born December 28, 1921 in Lancaster, CA. She came home to Phoenix two weeks later. She grew up in Phoenix on Runyon St (now known as Mitchell) where at age 8 she met her future husband Bill Hoffman. She graduated from Phoenix Union High in 1941. Then went on to Stanford University in CA. She received her Masters in Physical Therapy. She married the love of her life in 1947 in Phoenix. She then practiced Physical Therapy at the Phoenix Indian School hospital until her first child was born. She and Bill then moved to Kansas were she taught anatomy and physiology classes at KU Medical School while Bill went to dental school. They returned to Phoenix. After Mary Louise’s second child was born she took up art. She has many oil paintings, and taught art for many years before she decided to write a book of her life story, Runyon Street, about growing up in Phoenix in the 20s.

She is survived by her brother, John Fairfield Perry, 2 daughters, Christine Wichert of Downey, CA, & Carol Pace of Mesa AZ. 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren also survive her. She was a wife, mother, teacher, artist, author, and art teacher. Mary Louise’s husband of 63 years, Bill, preceded her in death October 3rd, 2010. She will be truly missed by her family and many friends. Her loving spirit will remain in our hearts forever. Arrangements entrusted to Bunkers University Chapel, 3529 E. Wallace August Gehrke, born June 21, 1926 in Flaxton, ND to August and Josephine Gehrke died September 20, 2012 at Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa, AZ. Upon his graduation from Flaxton High School, Wallace attended Wahpeton State School of Science where he graduated with a degree in accounting/business. He served in World War II from 1944 to 1946 in the US Navy aboard the USS Maryland in the South Pacific. In 1947 Wally married Beverly J. Christianson of Coteau, ND and subsequently worked in telecommunications for more than 40 years, residing in Ellendale, Mohall, Minot, and Fargo, ND. Beverly and Wally have spent their retirement years in Mesa, AZ. Along with being a sports fan, Wally also enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, and had been an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot and Messiah Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. He and Beverly were members of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Mesa at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, two sons: Greg (Becky) Phoenix, AZ and Brad (Kathy) Albuquerque, NM, and one daughter Barb (Steve) Blikre, Minot, ND. Wally was especially proud of his eight grandchildren: Kelly (Bob) Lyle, Austin, TX; Jay Gehrke, Scottsdale, AZ; Brock (Jamie) Blikre, Mesa, AZ; Joshua (Trina) Blikre, Bismarck, ND; David (Mandie) Blikre, Minot, ND; Scott Gehrke, Tempe, AZ; James Gehrke, Albuquerque, NM; and John Gehrke, Tempe, AZ, along with 12 great-grandchildren. A family memorial service will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ. Interment to follow at the National Memorial Cemetery, Phoenix, AZ.

Ewart, Marla Mangum

85, of Mesa, Arizona passed away on September 21, 2012. She was born in Pima Arizona in 1926 and spent her childhood there. She left for college at 17, attended Brigham Young University and graduated from Arizona State Teacher’s College (ASU), beginning her teaching career at Balsz Elementary School in Phoenix.

She met Henry Smith, a native of Snowflake Arizona, married in 1952, and began her family life with his three boys, Richard, Karl and Raymond Smith, the first two of whom had been children of his first wife’s previous marriage. To that already blended family she added three more boys, Kim, Scott (who died as a baby) and Frederick Smith. Shortly after the loss of Scott, her husband Henry died as well, leaving her with 5 boys and a nascent commercial real estate business.

Alone, and with 5 boys to care for, she took over her husband’s business and provided for her family. As might be expected with a family of 5 boys, she kept the local pediatrician, Dr. Fred Ewart, in good business. Eventually, with a promise from Dr. Ewart to actively help in raising her family in the Mormon Church, which was such a large part of and support to her life, in 1959 she married him and subsequently added one child to the family, Gregg Ewart.

In 1963, she and her husband moved into the home they had designed together in Mesa, in which she spent the rest of her life serving in her church as Young Women’s President and Relief Society President and engaged in what was clearly her most important work, raising her family and forming, of these boys of so many different parents, a band of brothers.

In 1994, she and Dr. Ewart were called to serve an 18-month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the San Diego Family History Center.

She is survived by her sons Richard (Heidi) Smith, Karl (Wendy) Smith, Raymond (Vickie) Smith, Kim (Julie) Smith, Frederick (Catherine) Smith and Gregg (Justin Horlyk) Ewart, 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Viewings will be held at Bunker Family Funeral Home, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa on Tuesday September 25th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday September 26th at the Mesa Central Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints, 925 N. Harris. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m.

Allie Bean Reheis passed away on Tuesday, Sept 18, 2012 in Mesa AZ. She was 99. She was born in Mud Lick, Clay Co. TN on Feb 4, 1913, a twin in a family of 14. Allie was raised on a farm and learned to work hard. She married John Raymond Reheis on 2 Feb 1931. John passed away on 4 July 1987. Both were members of the LDS church. Allie and John have 5 children, Paul Reheis (Anita), Mary Alice Dukate (Don), Patsy Martin (Cecil), Jerry Reheis (Lonnie) and Steve Reheis (Donna), 19 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren and 46 great great grandchildren with a total of 187 descendants. She is survived by two living sisters, Ruth Grace of Lafayette, TN and Marie Rhoton (Cornell) of Tompkinsville, KY. Allie was known for her southern style cooking and family and friends loved to enjoy her food. Allie and John lived in Owensboro, KY. for 31 years and moved to Mesa in 1964 to be with family. Allie worked at Mollies in downtown Mesa for 11 years. She was well known for her knowledge of ladies ready to wear clothing and had a good following. The Extended Family Assisted Living Home gave loving care and kindness to her in the last years of her life along with Hospice of Arizona. A viewing will be held on Sat Sept 22 at 9 AM with a service at 10 AM, both at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University in Mesa. Burial will be at the Mountain View Cemetery.

LaRee Maloy Allen, a resident of Pinetop, AZ since 1986 passed away September l2, 2012 in Mesa, AZ. She was born September 16, 1936 in Safford, AZ to Lawrence Lorenzo Maloy and Orlena Nancy Frazier. She was one of five children. LaRee married Philip Kerry Allen in Safford on July 16, 1954. Their marriage was solemnized in the LDS Salt Lake Temple 10 months later. She is survived by their four children Kerri Sue Allen Kleiner (John), Wyatt Maloy Allen (Stacy), Michael Philip Allen, Sr. (Paula), and Brittan Hugh Allen (Leah), 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Elwood Maloy (Colleen), Larry Maloy and 2 sisters, Dracia Lee and Lynneah Maloy Francom (Paul). She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Claire John. LaRee served faithfully in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Relief Society President, Young Women’s President and many positions of responsibility over her life time. She served with her husband on two full-time missions for the Church. LaRee was active and well-loved wherever they lived and became proficient in cake decorating for weddings and floral design. She was adored by her husband, Kerry. LaRee brought sunshine into the lives of all she met. The viewing will be Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 10 AM and the service will be at 11AM at the Pinetop Lakes Ward, 4075 Buck Springs Road, Pinetop, AZ 85935.
