James S. Tomooka was born in Oso Flaco, California on May 16, 1922 and passed away on February 15, 2013. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Kuniye; daughter, Mary Ann; parents Toyokichi and Yone; sisters Tsuyako Tanaka and Reiko Fujii; and brothers Masataka and Chikayoshi. He is survived by daughters, Nancy (Brian), Jeannie (Monte), and Stephanie (Randal); son, Glenn; and grandchildren, Megan, Ryan, Christina, and Kevin. He also leaves his sisters, Ayako Tomooka and Lillie Miyagishima; brother, Fred; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 from 5 to 8:00 p.m., Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ. Services will be held on March 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., also at Bunker’s Garden Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014-5656.

Charles S. Adair

Charles S. Adair, dearly loved husband, father and grandfather, passed away February 22, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 10, 1915, in Luna, New Mexico. Charles was a life-long active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young man he filled a mission for the church in the Eastern States. He served in many positions, but his greatest passion was genealogy. He married Pearl Reidhead March 13, 1942 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. It was soon after that Pearl Harbor was bombed. Charley served over four years in the Air Force during World War II. He was an educator and owned and operated Adair Tax Service for over 50 years. His greatest joy was his sweetheart of over 70 years, Pearl; his children Yvonne (Arthur Molina (deceased), Charles (Jennifer Smith), Carla (Mark NeVille), Kathleen (Richard Romney), Douglas (Karen Louden), Dawna (Lonnie Stradling), Robert (Bethany Stewart), 38 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, March 1, 2013 from 6-8 PM at the LDS Kleinman Park Ward, 616 S. Extension in Mesa. Funeral services are Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 11 AM, preceded by a visitation at 10 AM at the same location. Arrangements by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.

Gwendolyn Ann Rowley
1933/12/27 - 2013/02/21

Gwendolyn Ann Rowley, passed away on February 21, at the home of her grandson. Gwen was born December 27, 1933 to Ila Myrle Jones and DeWitt Mincey in Bartow, FL. She was later adopted by her stepfather, Richard Dubian. She moved to Arizona when she was 9 and continued her schooling, graduating from Mesa High. She married Duane Rowley on January 25, 1951. She carried on her education at MCC and then went ASU to earn her BA and MA in education while raising 5 children and a husband. She taught English at MCC for over 15 years before retiring to enjoy time with Duane at their home in Christopher Creek. Gwen was very active in the LDS church. She had many callings including teacher and president of several auxiliaries. Gwen is survived by her children: Kim and Carol, Mike and Shauna, Kevin and Connie, Leanne, Lisa, 18 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Gwen lived a wonderful life of love and service to all who knew her. The visitation will be at the LDS Solomon Ward, 997 E Broadway from 6 – 8 pm on Friday, March 1st. Services will be Saturday, March 2nd at 10 am with a viewing one hour prior, also at the Solomon building. Arrangements by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.

Adrian Marion Stuke Jr.

Adrian (Rocko) M. Stuke, 71, of Mesa, Arizona was called home peacefully on February 15, 2013 after a battle with cancer. Adrian was born September 30, 1941 to Adrian Sr. and Frances Stuke in Quincy, IL where he grew up and graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School. Adrian joined the Navy and was very proud to be submariner. After his military career, Adrian moved to Mesa, Arizona where he began his second career at Motorola. There he met the love of his life, Janie Denning. Adrian was a member of the US Submarine Veterans where he served as Vice Commander. He is survived by his loving wife Janie, son Troy (Beth) of Arizona, sister’s Sharon (Bob) Schonhoff and Patty (Bob) Kelley both of Quincy, IL, grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. There will be a viewing at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa, Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 6-8pm. Graveside service will be held at National Veteran’s Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix on Wednesday morning.

Harold Evans

Harold Evans, age 82, passed away at home in Mesa on February 14, 2013. Born in Quincy, Illinois on April 10, 1930, Harold was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Fannie Elizabeth Evans, a sister, Dorothy Shriver, and a brother, Eugene Evans. Surviving are sisters, Lucille Tallcott, Lois Williams, Dolores (Bill) Duncan, and Nancy (Bill) Gillenwater, and brother Bill (Ruth) Evans. Harold is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pat, and three adult children: Rob Evans of Phoenix, Marcie (Irv) Schulman of Rye Brook, NY, and Will Evans of El Sobrante CA. Surviving also are granddaughter, Lia, and grandson, Patrick. An extended family and many friends will miss him.

Harold attended school in Mendon, IL, served in the Army, attended University of Illinois, and then moved to Arizona some fifty years ago. After retiring from Valley National Bank, he continued to work in agriculture until the last two years. He was always ready to drive through the fields and desert of Arizona. Arrangements are entrusted to Bunker University Chapel, Mesa, 3529 E University Drive. The family hopes that contributions to a favorite charity of one’s choice or to Mendon Congregation U.C.C., 106 E. High Street, Mendon, IL 62351, will be considered in lieu of flowers.

Following the services, the family would like to host everyone for lunch nearby at: Rancho de Tia Rosa, 3129 E. McKellips Rd., Mesa, AZ. After lunch, the family will welcome visitors for coffee and pastries at their home.

Dan Alvin Goodman, 84 passed away peacefully February 13, 2013. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather (g-g pa). Dan was born on January 29, 1929 in Miami AZ. He was a native Arizonian, raised in Safford, lived in Casa Grande for 12 years, moved to Mesa in 1961. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Delta. He is survived by their son Fred A. (Bonnie) Goodman, grandchildren, Daffney (Michael) Liu, Dan L. (Amanda) Goodman, Anji (Brett) Davis, Amanda (Chris) Dempsey, seven great-grandchildren Jordan, Matthew, Keiren, Kailyn, Aidan, Andrew, Riley, two nephews, many nieces and cousins. He retired from Valley National Bank (known as Chase) after 44 years, at the time the longest employee of the bank. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions of service in the church. Services will be held Tuesday Feb. 19, 2013 at 10AM with a visitation at 9AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 1718 N. Date Mesa, AZ. Milo Richard LeBaron Jr. (80) passed away February 8, 2013. He was born on June 27, 1932 in Mesa Arizona to Milo and Wanda Hill LeBaron. Milo is survived by his wife of 61 years Donna Brinton LeBaron, his 6 children Christi Palmer (Denny), Cherie Rapier (Dave), Laura Skinner (Dan), Milo LeBaron,III (Julia), Diana Huish (Eric), and Elise Nielson, 32 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 4 siblings, Jan Carroll, Sally Sue Nelson, Cheryl Cummard, and Michael LeBaron. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, and was blessed to serve in many callings, including Scout Master, Bishop, and several mission. He served as Mission President of the Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City, Temple Square Missions. He was the co-owner of LeBaron & Carroll Insurance, and served locally, and nationally, for the Independent Insurance Agents of America. But most of all, he loved the time spent with his family, camping, traveling, playing games, time at the cabin, and even shopping. In the last years of his life he was given loving care by his wife, family, Hospice of the Valley, and Citrus Manor Care Center. Visitation is Friday, February 15, 2013 from 6- 8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa. Funeral Services are Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11AM, preceded by a visitation from 10:00-10:45, at the Mesa Central Stake Center, 925 N. Harris St.

Kenneth W. Spaulding was blessed to go live with his Heavenly Father on 2-06-13. He peacefully passed away at home while with his loving wife of 63 years, Omia Fay Spaulding. Together they had created a wonderful family. He is survived by his wife, son Keith Spaulding and daughters Diana Cramp, Patsy Baker and Debbie Spaulding along with 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, his 2 brothers and 1 sister. His “hard work” ethic was rewarded with retirement from Magma Copper Mine and Mesa Public Schools. He was a man of few words but full of knowledge and expertise in farming, horses, building barns & fences, and witty sayings. He will always be cherished and remembered by his family and many friends. Funeral services are Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at 12 noon, preceded by a visitation at 11 AM at Victory Tabernacle, 339 S. Margaret Shumway Sevey, born Feb. 10, 1920, passed away peacefully on Feb 2, 2013 after a short bout with pneumonia. She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard. She is survived by 6 children—Sylvia Bielefeldt, Myrna Sheppard, Vaunda Capps, John Sevey, Richard Sevey, and Melisa Hyde. She was very proud of her 35 Grandchildren and 88 Great Grandchildren. Margaret served all of her life as an active member of the LDS Church, and was a great example to her family and friends. She had a teaching degree and was known as an amazing family historian, who published a number of ancestral life histories. A viewing will be held Feb. 8 from 6 to 8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel (33 N. Centennial Way) in Mesa. Funeral services will be held on Feb 9, 2013 at 10 AM at the Ironwood Ward, 2520 E. Old West Highway, Apache Junction.
