Kimberly K. Lawrence, 52, passed away August 4, 2014 in Phoenix, AZ. Kim’s life began August 15th, 1961 in Des Moines, Iowa, where she attended Ankeny High School and continued her education at The University of Iowa obtaining a B.S. degree. She eventually completed her Master’s in Speech Pathology at California State University, Long Beach. Kim became a resident of California after receiving her Master’s and lived in Seal Beach enjoying the southern California life style while working at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. In 1989, she relocated to Arizona to be close to her sister Robin, and was eventually married to her husband Bob of 20 years. She then started a 10-year career in social work and made a career change in 2000 to pharmaceutical sales. Her drive, high energy and obvious competency were ultimately recognized and she was most recently promoted to a Division Manager at Forrest Labs. Kim loved to experience new things and was a bit of a thrill seeker. She even went skydiving in Eloy, AZ. She was an avid runner and loved all sports, especially her Hawkeyes. She was also a tireless animal lover. She strived to be the best at any chosen endeavor and expected nothing less of those people around her. Some people would say she was a little spirited or competitive – she was. Some would say she was caring and extremely compassionate – she was. She loved those around her intensely. For those that were in her inner circle, there were no boundaries to that love. She loved her family and friends and they loved her. Her father, Dale Shaw, preceded Kim in death. She will be celebrated and sadly missed by her husband, Bob and dog Oliver, mother Sandy and step-father Jay Strosnider of Ankeny, IA, grandmother Lavonne Johnson, brother Todd and sister-in-law Lisa, nephews Ryan and Nicholas all of Ankeny, IA, sister Robin and brother-in-law Craig Hagen, niece Jordan and nephew Brody all of Gilbert, AZ, as well as many other friends. Gods speed to you Kim as you continue your journey in Heaven. We look forward to the day we are all reunited. Paul, 77, was called back to his heavenly home on Monday, August 4th, in Mesa, AZ. He is survived by 4 siblings Richard, Deonne, Lynn, and Mark; his loving and devoted wife, Lynda Brenchley; his 4 children Preston, Michelle, Renee, and Paul; his 3 step-children Darla, Dallas, and Danny; 30 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Alta; first wife, Yvonne; step-daughter, Diane; and sister Carla. Paul was married to Yvonne (Bonnie) Brenchley for 37 years until her passing and then to Lynda Finch Brenchley for 16 years. Paul grew up in Wellsville, UT and attended South Cache High School. He faithfully served a two-year full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Utah State University and later, his Doctorate in Dental Science from Northwestern University. He practiced dentistry in Phoenix, AZ for 36 years before retiring. Upon retiring, he served two missions with his wife Lynda in Martin’s Cove, WY and a humanitarian mission in the Phoenix area. Paul was loved and admired by all who knew him. He leaves an honorable legacy of faith, love, strength, and dedication for his family to follow. Visitation is Fri., Aug. 8, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the LDS Church, 2220 N. Harris, Mesa, AZ. Funeral services are Sat., Aug. 9th at 11 AM at the same location, with visitation at 10 AM.
Frank Eldon Rhoden, 75, was born June 24, 1939 in Fairbury, Nebraska. He passed away August 3, 2014 in Mesa, Arizona. He leaves a wife, Fae, a brother, John, 5 children, 25 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents, a brother, a son and 2 grandchildren. He served in the Army in the 101st Airborne Division. Frank spent most of his life buying and selling construction equipment and ended up owning and operating his own company until he retired in 2003. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, golfing, and traveling. He was a member of the LDS Church, serving in several positions. He worked in the Mesa Temple for 8 years. Visitation will be at Friday, August 8, 2014 from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University, Mesa. Services will be Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11 AM at the LDS Church, 2559 E. Combs, San Tan Valley, with visitation at 10 AM.
Erin Earl Moore, 46, passed away August 2, 2014 in Mesa, Arizona. Erin was born June 1, 1968 in Mesa, AZ. Surviving family members include daughter Samantha Moore (Mesa, AZ), parents David and JoAnn Moore (Mesa, AZ), and siblings Kelly Moore (Kansas City, MO), Mathew Moore (Holbrook, AZ), Nancy Linford (Gilbert, AZ), and Tracy Moore (Gilbert, AZ).
Funeral services will be August 9, 2014 at 10 AM, with visitation at 9 AM, at the LDS chapel at the northeast corner of Mesa Dr. and University in Mesa. Erin was a hard worker and a loyal friend. He loved many outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, and going to the Dunes. If he wasn’t working or playing hard, he was helping someone in need. Ilisapeta Liekina Stephenson, 65, of Mesa, Arizona passed away August 1, 2014 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Funeral services are Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10 AM, preceded by a visitation at 8 AM at the LDS Inglewood 1st Ward Chapel, 400 Centinela Avenue, Inglewood, California. Yvonne May Graves Pollock, age 86, of Mesa, Arizona passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday morning, January 1, 2014. She was born on April 19, 1927 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She moved to Monterey, California in 1950, where she met her husband Richard Edwin Pollock at a USO dance at Fort Ord Army Base. They were married two months later at the Carmel California Mission in 1952. She was a loving mother to her five children. She was creative, fun loving, and very active in her children’s lives. Her family is her biggest treasure. She became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1968 at the age of 41. In 1970, she was sealed to her husband and children in the Los Angeles Temple. Her devotion and enduring faith to the church has been an inspiration to her children and grandchildren. Her youngest daughter, Mary Ann was born with Down syndrome which led her to become a strong advocate and caregiver to those with special needs. She became a foster mother for countless severely handicapped children over a span of 19 years before she suffered a stroke requiring her to move to Mesa, Arizona to be near her family. Preceded in death by her parents Irving and May Graves and brother Irving Graves, she is survived by brothers: Maynard (Judy), Tom (Hedy) and Rick (Sally) Graves; her five children: Colleen (Jeff) Lewis, Karen (Rudy) Komenda, Richard (Leslie) Pollock, Annette (Bill) Castrey and Mary Ann Pollock; her 20 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She has been our matriarch and pioneer, leaving us a legacy of faith and service. On Monday, January 6, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., a viewing will be held at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 North Centennial Way, Mesa, Arizona. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at 2424 North Old Gilbert Road, Mesa, Arizona. She will be laid to rest in the City of Mesa Cemetery, 1212 North Center Street, Mesa, Arizona.
Elba Allen, born May 7, 1922 passed away peacefully on January 1, 2014 at the age of 91. She is survived by her three daughters, Georgeann Beaudet (Ed), Marlene Sheppard (Jim) and Roberta Mason (Ron), and 33 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services are Wed., January 8, 2014 at 10 AM, with a viewing at 9 AM, at the LDS Church, Aspen Ward, 1249 S. 48th Street, Mesa. Arrangements by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.
Lela Gardner Steffey, 85, passed away peacefully at home in Mesa, AZ, on January 2, 2014. The youngest of eleven children, Lela was born August 8, 1928, in Idaho Falls, ID, to Orawell and Mary Ethel Owen Gardner. She is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Warren Steffey; loving children, Barry (Laura) Hendershott, Brad (Rhonda) Hendershott, and Bart (Cathi) Hendershott; step-children Dean Steffey, Wayne (Trisha) Steffey, Susan (Mike) Eggers, Lu Ann (Tony) Cicci, Scott Steffey; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by son David Howard Hendershott. Lela served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many capacities throughout her life. She was also very politically active, including serving 7 terms in the Arizona State Legislature and as the president of National Order of Women Legislators. Lela loved family, travel, dolls, sports, the color purple, chocolate, and spending summers in San Diego. Visitation will be January 9, 2014 from 6-8 PM @ Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ. Services will be January 10, 2014, 11 AM @ LDS Church, 1550 N Val Vista Drive Mesa, AZ 85213. W. James “Jim” Winspear, age 90, passed away January 3, 2014 in Mesa, Arizona. He was born February 20, 1923 in Buffalo, New York. Jim had a career in retail and manufacturing. He served in the US Navy Air Corp from 1942 to 1945. Jim enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan. He served twice as a bishop for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Louise Chambers Winspear, his parents, James Wallace Winspear and Elizabeth Anna Dodd Winspear, and two brothers, Jack Winspear and Burt Winspear. He is survived by his five children and their spouses: Marcie and Michael Patch, Linda and Bill Call, Rand and Victoria Winspear, Joel Winspear, Christopher and Gina Winspear. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11 AM at the LDS Park Center Ward Chapel, 422 E. University Dr., Mesa, Arizona. Arrangements by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.
Sam passed away on January 4, 2014, in Gilbert, Arizona, where the family has lived since 1974. He was the son of John H. and Leah Smith Udall and was born in Phoenix on February 6, 1930, and loved being a “Census Baby.” He went through the Phoenix school system, graduating from North Phoenix High School in 1948, with his “after school and summer jobs” of working for his Dad on the farm or the ranch.
He was drafted during the Korean War, spending two years in the U.S. Army as an agent in the Counter Intelligence Corps in Tokyo, Japan, then completed a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern California area.
He married Helen Druke from Scottsdale on June 6, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple and went on to obtain three graduate degrees, a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the University of Arizona, and an Ed. S. from Northern Arizona University. These degrees in the Education field helped him in his profession as a teacher, principal, and Assistant Superintendent in the schools in St Johns, Globe, and Gilbert.
Following his career in education, he could see the growth in Gilbert and established himself in the real estate field. During this time he served on the Gilbert School Board for 20 years and has the distinction of having his name on the dedicatory plaques of 26 school edifices. He loved his community service, and loved the Gilbert Schools where his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have attended.
His experience in working on the 9th floor of the Capitol Building in Phoenix with Governor Evan Mecham was a rewarding one, and he also enjoyed working with Tom Freestone in the Maricopa County Supervisor’s Office.
He was an avid “story-teller” and looked forward to telling “stories” to all his family and friends. His favorite pastimes were doing crossword puzzles and watching sports on TV and celebrating birthdays with family.
His service in the Church was varied, from Nursery Leader, Elder’s Quorum President, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Stake Clerk, and from 2000 to 2007 as an Ordinance worker in the Mesa Arizona Temple.
He is survived by his children, Douglas Druke Udall; Debra (Danny Wilcock); and Roby Smith Udall; grandchildren Kyle Wilcock (Traci); Megan Wilcock; Jordan Wilcock; Kyson Goettig-Udall; two step-grandchildren Jenika and Kaly Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Addison and Easton Wilcock, plus two sisters, Janet Mortensen and Pauline Perkinson (Brad), and one brother, Jesse (Ann) Udall.
A visitation will be held Friday, January 10, 2014 from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 North Centennial Way in Mesa, AZ. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 10 AM with a visitation one hour prior at the LDS Val Vista Lakes Stake Center, 1005 North Voyager in Gilbert. Darlene Lynn Judd, 55, of Mesa, Arizona passed away on January 8, 2014 in Phoenix. She was born in Norway, Maine on November 2, 1958. A visitation will be held Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University Drive in Mesa. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 13, 2014 with a visitation 1 hour prior at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Thayer Park Ward, 2835 E. Des Moines in Mesa.
Dawn Lund Smith passed away peacefully in her sleep January 9, 2014. Dawn is survived by her children Heather Smith, Chelsea Smith (Nile), CJ (Savanna) Smith, Chase Smith, Sterling (Jessica) Smith, Hayden Smith and Hunter Smith of Mesa, Arizona; her parents Vernon and Joyce Lund; her siblings LeighAnn Bennett (Fred), Jeanette Roberts (Doug), Janell Meinzer and Jill Fishback (Leland) and her grandchild Calvin Jordan Smith. Dawn was loved by all who knew her. She was everyone’s instant true friend. Many were inspired by her selflessness. She was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. Peter Franz Rimmasch, 42, of Mesa, Arizona; passed away January 12, 2014 in Mesa. Peter was born in Provo, Utah on June 1, 1971 to Dennis and Suezan (Bangerter) Rimmasch. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Friday, January 17, 2014 at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University Dr. in Mesa. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 18, 2014 with a prior visitation at 9:30 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4640 E. Holmes Ave in Mesa. Interment will be at the Kaysville City Cemetery in Kaysville, Utah.
Ann Fuller Johnson, born Feb 10, 1935 in Mesa, was called home on January 15, 2014 in Mesa. There to meet her were her husband, Ernest, her son, Kevin, granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann, and her parents. Left to carry on her traditions are her daughter Denise, son Dennis and daughter in law, Dee. Her legacy will be continued through her 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was a stay at home mom. When her kids were teenagers, she went back to work as an elementary teacher. After her husband retired, they spent time in Germany and Okinawa, where she taught school on the military bases. She will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be on Friday, Jan 17, 2014 from 6-8 pm at the Bunker’s Garden Chapel at 33 N Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ 85213. Michelle Yesitis Atwood, 49, passed away January 16, 2014 in Mesa, Arizona. Funeral services are Friday, January 24, 2014 at 11 AM, preceded by a visitation at 10 AM at the LDS Montecito Ward, 2835 E. Des Moines Street, Mesa, AZ 85213. Arrangements by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.
Phyllis Ann Pittmon of Mesa fell asleep in death January 17, 2014. She enjoyed a full life despite a long history of heart disease. To the very end she was sassy and spunky and fun loving. She leaves behind many fond memories for family & friends. Those who miss her include her husband Bill, daughters Vicki & husband Tony Pitmon, Sharon Rose, Tina & husband Joel Smith; also Laurie & Dan Price, David & Lisa Pittmon, Judy Kessler, Darryl Pittmon and Darin Pittmon; 27 grand & great grandchildren. She leaves her older siblings, Kenneth Pasano, Rose Butler and Anthony Pasano to carry on the legacy of their parents, Anthony and Eleanor Pasano. Phyllis will be memorialized at 3 p.m. on Monday, February 24th at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University Dr., Mesa AZ 85213.
