Anne Poleo, 88, passed away January 23, 2016 at the Summit in Mesa, AZ after battling cancer for the past 6 months.
She was born the only child of Anthony and Natalie Coletto on September 25, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY. Anne started playing piano at the age of 7 and graduated from high school when she was 16. Anne attended the Boston Conservatory of Music where she studied concert piano. While there, she met her husband of 59 years, Vincent Poleo Sr.
After getting married, she lived in Massapequa, NY, where she raised her children and taught piano. In 1964, Anne and Vince followed their best friends, Rita and Bob, and moved to Mesa, AZ. Anne was active in the women’s auxiliary at Mesa Lutheran Hospital and enjoyed playing golf at Mesa Country Club. In 1986, they retired to their “little cabin in the pines” in Prescott, AZ, where she loved to play bridge, golf and volunteer with the Claret’s organization at her church. In 2013, Anne moved back to Mesa, AZ to be closer to her children living in the valley.
Anne is survived by her children, Vincent Jr. (Vicki), Anne (Tom), Steven (Barbara), Charles (Teresa) and Anthony (Laura); 10 grandchildren, Sherrie, Chris, Michelle, Linda, Candace, Andrea, Ryan, Samantha, Joanna, and Anthony; and 9 great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, January 29, 2016 at 10 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 141 N. Macdonald, Mesa, AZ. Interment at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice of the Valley.
Ida Mae Roebuck, 86, of Chandler, Arizona, formerly of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away January 24, 2016 at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, with her sister Delores and niece Judy at her side.
Ida Mae was born May 9, 1929 in Napoleon, North Dakota to Christ and Lydia (Streyle) Schwartz. She went to school in Steel and Tuttle North Dakota. She moved to Fargo, North Dakota when she was 18 years old and worked at the Powers Hotel, W.W. Woolworth and then at Amerpride Service for 30 years, until she retired in 1991. After her husband Irving passed away, she moved to Chandler, Arizona in 1992. She married Irving L. Roebuck on May 12, 1961 in Moorhead, Minnesota.
Ida is survived by two brothers, Harold Schwartz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Ron Schwartz of Fargo, North Dakota; three sisters, Delores Wagner of Phoenix, Arizona, Betty Berg of Menken, North Dakota, and Ruby Schoff of Bismarck, North Dakota. She has many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Irving; her parents, Christ and Lydia; three sisters, Marcella, Gladys and Sharon; and one brother Albert.
Funeral services will be held at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, Minnesota. Burial will be at Oak Mound Cemetery, Moorhead, Minnesota.
Rodney Kent Chapman, 67, passed peacefully surrounded by family on January 23, 2016. He passed away due to complications from heart failure.
He was born November 17, 1948 to James and Carol Chapman in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is survived by his sweetheart of 45 years Cheryl Ann Scheel and his four children Stacey and Jacob Grover, Tammy and Andrew Brown, Kenny and Dori Chapman, Katie and Ryan Tolman and their 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by his father James and his siblings, Randy, Richard, Robyn and their families. He is preceded in death by his loving mother Carol.
He cherished his time with his family. Boating trips to Lake Powell, yard work on Saturdays with the kids and watching his grandkids play sports were among the many things he enjoyed. He spent many years building successful businesses and could always be found working hard to provide for his family. He loved music and enjoyed listening and playing music for others. He had an ambitious heart and always had a smile for everyone with whom he came in contact. He was quick with a joke, and never missed a chance to bring laughter to any situation.
Kent served in the Western Canadian Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has a special place in his heart for the Lamanite people he served there. Serving others was something he did frequently and taught his children to do the same. Despite suffering late in life with his failing heart, he had a large one and was always willing to share it. Kent Chapman is best remembered doing everything within his capabilities to bring joy and happiness to his children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11 AM, preceded by a gathering at 10 AM, at the LDS Boulder Creek Ward Chapel, 3025 S. Hawes Rd., Mesa, AZ. Arrangements by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.
William Louis Oliver, 77, passed away January 22, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 6-8 PM, at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 N. Ernestina Jenkins, 74, of Mesa Arizona, passed away peacefully January 21, 2016 in Mesa, Arizona.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd Peter Jenkins; 3 brothers, Jose Silva, Juan Trevino, Robert Trevino, and Serapio Trevino; 2 sisters, Aurora Garcia and Esperanza Bachelder; 3 daughters, Rosa Silva, Linda Cochell, and Tina Coons; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and many missionary grandsons and granddaughters.
Visitation will be Friday, January 29, 2016 from 6-8:30 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, Arizona. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 10 AM, with visitation from 9-9:30 AM, at the Mesa Alma Stake Center, 2300 W. Javalina Ave., Mesa, Arizona. Kimball Reuby Eagar, age 4, passed away January 19, 2016 in Mesa, Arizona. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Rae Allen Echols, Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on January 18, 2016. Rae was born March 30, 1941 in Phoenix, AZ. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jeanne; his children, Ken Echols, Mindy (Jeremy) Cull, and Brian (Kari) Echols; his 3 grandchildren, McKenzie, James and Brody; his sisters Diane (Jack) King and Sally (John) Werner; 2 nieces and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and 1 sister.

Ruth Louise Wolf Axsom passed away the 17th of January, 2016. Born on June 9th, 1936 in a small house on Mayss Street in Globe, Arizona, to her beloved parents Jesse and Ruth Wolf. Spending her childhood years in Globe, she loved the small mining town and was a proud native Arizonan. Louise was in the 1954 graduating class of Globe High School. While there; she was a Globe Tiger Cheerleader, gained many prized lifelong friendships, and met the love of her life, Ron Axsom. On October 29th, 1955, Ron and Louise entered into a marriage that would last 60 years. Proudly authored a Genealogy book about the Axsom Family Tree; entitled, “Indiana Cousins”, which is published in the Library of Congress. Louise was instrumental in initiating and organizing the GHS 50th Year Reunion.
Louise was a very loving person and was known for her quick wit and personality. The grandkids and great-grandkids were adored, they were her, “Sunshine when skies were grey”. Dog, Chewy and her many Desert Tortoises, were the highlight of her days. Fondly referred to at times as, “The Turtle Lady”, raising hundreds of turtles over the years, from hatchlings to adults. Avidly pursuing her hobbies; needlecraft, cooking and working on her computer. Summers were spent in the White Mountains, where she enjoyed the cool pines, with Ron, Chewy and her baby turtles.
Louise is survived by her much loved sister: Lynda Wolf Carter (Larry), children: Jeanne Axsom (Michael), Ronald Axsom (Susan), Krista Axsom Thompson (Dave), seven revered Grandchildren and seven amazing Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her dear daughter Karen Axsom Stradling.
Louise will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. We will carry a special place in our hearts for our Wife, Mother, Sister and Nana. We will always miss you and treasure the countless memories you have blessed us with, forever each day.
Services for Ruth Louise Wolf Axsom, will be at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University Dr., Mesa, AZ 85213, Tuesday, January 26th, at 2:00 pm.

Paul John Ngawaka, 54, passed away January 14, 2016 in Mesa, Arizona. Frances Quist Ball, 99, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, January 18, 2016. Frances was born to Frank T. and Louise Ek Quist in Salt Lake City, Utah, on April 19, 1916. She married her sweetheart F. Morley Ball in the Salt Lake Temple in 1934. Together they raised their son, Samuel, who was the light of their lives.
Frances led an active, healthy, and happy life. She worked as a Secretary for the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring after 33 years. Always a hard worker, when they moved to Arizona, she left retirement to work as a Secretary at Arizona State University for an additional 10-plus years.
Frances was known as “Gorgeous” by her grandchildren and many others and the name fit her well. She was optimistic, witty, gracious, and beautiful. She will be missed by her three grandchildren, Jennifer Strent (Robert), Mary Jane McGrath (Kresten), Andrew Ball (Heidi) and her 10 great-grandchildren, her daughter-in-law Betsy Ball, former daughter-in-law Jane Porter, as well as her nieces, nephews, and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, son, parents, and siblings.
There will be a visitation in Mesa on Thursday, January 21 from 6-8 pm at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way. There will be an additional Visitation in Salt Lake City on Saturday, January 23, at 1:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive. Memorial and internment will immediately follow.
Esther Mae (Boyer) Lancaster of Mesa, Arizona; passed away on January 17, 2016. She was born in Van Buren County, Iowa. She also lived in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Marion, Iowa and worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids for 28 years. She married Ray Lancaster in May of 1958. In addition to Ray, Esther is survived by two sons: Jerry (Cleremont, Georgia) and Dennis (Mesa); one daughter: Kathy Lockhart (Mesa), six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services will be held at 4:00 pm, Thursday, January 21st at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University Dr. in Mesa, Arizona.
Charlene Ruth Hobbs, 90, passed away January 14, 2016 in Mesa, Arizona. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 10 AM, preceded by a visitation at 9 AM, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mesa 18th Ward Chapel, 2228 E. Brown Road, Mesa, Arizona. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona.
William Hatch Whetten, 70 of Mesa, passed away peacefully in his home on January 12th, 2016. He is survived by his wife Carolyn of 45 years, his children Stacy Johnson (Ben), Allison Jensen (Joe), Melissa Meyers (Todd), Don Carlos (Deanna), Candice Angle (Matt), Brittany Garrett (Brady), 27 grandchildren, siblings Kathleen, Arlene, Alden and Tom. He is preceded in death by his son Jason and brother Lloyd.
Born March 27, 1945 in Mesa, Arizona, Bill called the Superstition wilderness his backyard. He attended Mesa High School and enjoyed participating in many sports and music activities before graduating in 1963. He attended BYU for one year before serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Chile Santiago Mission. He returned to BYU and graduated with a degree in accounting. He met Carolyn Simmons while going to school and they were married July 11, 1970 in the Mesa LDS temple. After working as an accountant briefly in California, they moved back to Mesa where he began working in Real Estate and with his family’s businesses. He worked in Real Estate for over 40 years as an agent, owner, broker, and educator. He enjoyed working in the temple for nearly 20 years and even with his failing health wanted to attend often.
Bill will be best remembered for his integrity, love of family, repetitive story-telling, historical trivia, classical music, Mt. Dew, peanut M&M’s. His children and grandchildren sincerely believe his story of being friends with Superman. His children are at a loss as to whom to tease now that he is gone…probably Donny.
There will be a viewing on Monday the 18th from 6-8pm at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 19th at 10am at the LDS church building, 4640 E. Holmes Ave in Mesa with a viewing at 9am.
Mele Laukau Tanginoa, 82, passed away January 8, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona. Durvasula Bala Tripura Sundari, 79, passed away peacefully at 2:25 am January 10, 2016 in Chandler, AZ, USA. Sundari “Sue”, although fighting a long battle with her illness, never once gave up her spirit & love of life. Through trials and tribulations of life, our mother continued to be a pillar of strength for the family.
Born in Rajahmundry, India she migrated to the USA with her late husband and 3 children in 1967. Although settling her life in the USA, she never gave up her traditions and culture . . . her roots.
She was a loving wife and a mother to her 3 children Somayajulu (Sam), Lakshmi and Radhika, who will continue her legacy and traditions. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Nagendra Prasad Palakodaty; daughter-in-law, Indu Durvasula; and grandchildren: Sri Rama Durvasula, Janardan Durvasula, Shivani Palakodaty and Srikari Palakodaty.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to everyone touching our mother’s life. We thank God for the gift of her life and the blessing of time spent with our mother.
A Memorial / Visitation service, celebration of life, will take place honoring Durvasula B. Sundari on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 8:00 AM at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University Dr, Mesa, Arizona, USA 85213. Hindu Priest Kameswara Sarma will officiate. Cremation will be at Bunker’s East Valley Crematory.
