Mary Hughes, 85 our beloved mother passed away February 14, 2017 in Mesa, Arizona.

She was an America West employee for 16 years before retiring in 1999. Mary was married to James Hughes for 61 years.

She is survived by her son Randall Hughes and daughter De Bowles, two grandchildren Lacey Bowles and Brandon Hughes, and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held March 3, 2017, at 11 am at Mesa Church of Christ, 1223 E. Dana Ave. Mesa, Arizona.

Aaron Friederich Sabrowsky – October 2,1926 – February 11, 2017

Aaron Friederich Sabrowsky, age 90 years and 4 months, passed from this life into life eternal on February 11, as a resident of Lund Family Hospice Home of Gilbert, AZ . Aaron was born to Friederich Wilhelm Herbert Sabrowsky, and Mabel Marie Buth – Sabrowsky in the rural community of Farming Township (Allbany),Minnesota.  Aaron was baptized and confirmed in the christian faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Farming Township. He attended parochial grade school there, and graduated at age 16 ½ from Albany High School in 1943. In December of 1945, he enlisted in the Navy. Two years later he was discharged as a Navy Aircraft Mechanic. Returning to the family farm, he continued farming with his older brother for 10 years. In that time he married Leona Margaret Sabrowsky on June 5, 1954 at the church of his baptism. They lived on the family farm in a basement home Aaron built. In1957, at the possible sale of the Sabrowsky farm, he took the opportunity to move to California. Within a few short days,he, with the help of his younger brother Raymond, already living in California, found a home in Hermosa Beach, and work at Douglas Aircraft. Leona and their two children joined him shortly thereafter.

Being skilled with his hands, and knowledgeable in engine and machinery repair, and all aspects of construction, he worked for United Hardware in Hawthorne, CA from 1957-1967; first as a truck driver delivering supplies to construction sites in the Los Angeles area, and then in customer service assisting  in the lumber yard, and with plumbing and electrical needs, and lock installation. After securing a locksmith license, he was hired as a professional locksmith in the security department of TRW INC. -Space Technologies Laboratories, in North Redondo Beach, from 1967-1973. From that position he was employed as a locksmith for the Los Angeles City Schools from 1973-1985. In 1984 he was honored to be on Security Detail at Monroe High School’s Swimming Venue for the 1984 Summer Olympics.

After years of purchasing and improving their homes in Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, and Newbury Park, Aaron and Leona moved to the southern Oregon rural community of Days Creek. There he built a retirement home on five acres of hills and woods, which he & Leona designed. That home became a treasured retreat for children and grandchildren to meet.

An avid outdoorsman and member of the NRA, Aaron enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening of all kinds. Always the student, Aaron loved to read non-fictional articles on religion, the fields of his trades, science, technology, and aerospace industry. In retirement, he read biographies, of historical figures, and non-fictional volumes on World and U.S. history of the times he lived in. He will be fondly remembered for his commitment to family, shown in his love language of an untiring work ethic to support them and provide a Christian Education for them. He will mostly be remembered for His love of God’s Word, the study of it, and promotion of Biblical Truth. As a young man, he enjoyed singing in choir. He humbly and faithfully supported the work of the church by serving on many church councils and boards everywhere he and the family were members. Aaron and Leona were members at Immanuel Lutheran- Missouri Synod, Farming Township,MN; Immanuel Lutheran-Missouri Synod, Redondo Beach, CA; Charter Members of Zion Lutheran-Wisconsin Synod of Torrance, CA; Prince of Peace Lutheran-Wisconsin Synod of Thousand Oaks, CA; and St.Matthew’s Lutheran-Evangelical Lutheran Synod, Myrtle Creek ,OR. In 2007 they downsized to a small home in Mesa, AZ and joined Pilgrim Lutheran Church-Wisconsin Synod.

Aaron is survived by his five children: Carolyn (John) Baumann, Cannon Falls, MN; Dwight (Lori) Sabrowsky, Redondo Beach, CA; Ronald Sabrowsky, Sedro-Woolley,WA; Dale (Evelyn) Sabrowsky, Buena Park, CA; Glenn (Jeanette) Sabrowsky, Mesa, AZ. Grandchildren: LeeAndra (David) Dodge, Milwaukee, WI; Melissa (Wayne) Birling, Menasha, WI; Daniel Baumann, Cannon Falls, MN / Angela ( Matthew) Lopez, Torrance, CA; Alisha (Aaron) Sabrowsky, Culver City, CA; Russel (Elizabeth) Sabrowsky, Boise, ID / Rachel ( Matthew) Meyer, Mesa, AZ; Samantha (Zane) Sapp, Boise, ID; Amanda Sabrowsky, Sedro-Woolley, WI / Sonia, Aaron Alexander, and Zoe Sabrowsky. Great Grandchildren: Riley and Ella Dodge; Fiona Sabrowsky. Step Granddaughter: April Dacy. Step Great Grandchildren: Candace Mallory, Patrick James Mallory, Lily Dacy. Step Great Great Grandchildren.

His sister Adeline Rohe, sisters-in-law: Adeline Sabrowsky, Erna Sabrowsky. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Milford and Eleanore Sabrowsky, Mervile and Ceceilia Sabrowsky, Willard and Donna Sabrowsky, and many nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

Aaron is preceded in death by his beloved wife Leona of 59 ½ years, his parents Friederich and Mabel Sabrowsky, and Step Father Raymond Heffernan. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Esther and Arthur Schlueter, Alfred and Grace Sabrowsky, Eleanore and Clarence Silbernick, Raymond Sabrowsky, Hildegard and Edward Shadbolt. His wife’s parents: Elmer and Ida Sabrowsky. Step Great Grandaughter: Madeline Rose Mallory. Several nephews and nieces, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 27^th  6-8pm at Bunker Funeral Home

Dorothy Harvey, 92, joined her sweetheart on February 14, 2017. Born in 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah, she married Rex Harvey during WWII and they were lucky to celebrate over 50 years together before his death.

Active in the LDS Church, she enjoyed serving and helping others, sewing, crochet, bowling, Wheel of Fortune and travel with her family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Ilene Chisler (Ron).  She was survived by her daughter, Dixie Palmer (James C.), her son, Mark (Pam) Harvey, and many descendants. 

A visitation will be held Monday, February 20, 2017 from 6-8 PM, at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 North Centennial Way, Mesa, Arizona. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 11 AM, with a visitation at 10 AM, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 933 East Brown Road, Mesa, Arizona. Dorothy’s final resting place will be in the Blanding Cemetery, next to her husband.

Davida Stambro was a bright light for many people. We lost this light from our lives on Friday, February 10th. She will be forever missed by many, but will be missed most by her husband Brian Stambro and her family.

Clyde Ray Capelo, 86, passed away February 14, 2017 in Mesa, Arizona. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 24, 2017, at 11 AM, with visitation at 10 AM, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 22035 E. Ocotillo Road, Queen Creek, Arizona.

Sonja Annette Woodard, 78, of Mesa, Arizona passed away on February 4, 2017 in Kihei, Hawaii.  A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, February 15^th at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University Drive in Mesa.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 16^th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2835 E. Des Moines in Mesa with a visitation one hour prior to services.

Parley Gail Willis, age 85, born September 9, 1931, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 12th, 2017. He leaves a loving family who will miss him but whose sorrow is swallowed up in their belief that families are forever, and that through Jesus Christ’s Atonement and the plan of happiness, we will all be together again.

His wife Karen Campbell Willis is comforted in this time of sorrow by her children and grandchildren, whom she and her husband love immensely. Gail was a quiet and gentle man, who loved with his whole heart, believed in forgiveness, loved nature, and who served his fellowmen with ease and grace.

He is loved, will be missed, and leaves his family a path to follow… with faith in every footstep, around every bend, and through every valley. His family looks forward to the day when we can see him again.  He is survived by his children Karie Peel, Kathleen Porter (Nate), Gregory Willis (SueAnn), Geoffrey Willis (Missy), and Katie Jensen (Ron), 21 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11 AM, at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, Arizona. Gabriel Trigueros Garcia, 36, passed away February 2, 2017 in Detroit, Michigan.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 3 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 North Centennial Way, Mesa, Arizona.

Barbara Ann Coleman born 9/26/1947 was called home Monday the 6^th day of February at 7:30 am.

She passed away at her home in Mesa Arizona.

Her parents, now both deceased, are Cecelia Davies and Dennis Davies.

Barbara led a happy life with her parents and grew up in a Christian Household in Cleveland, Ohio.

She graduated High School with honors and later attended some college in Keypunch operations.

She had 3 wonderful children with her first husband. Barbara’s children’s names are Stacey Coleman, Lori Coleman, and Jason Coleman.

She raised her children to the best of her ability. Her two daughters are now married and have 2 children of their own. They reside in Florida. Barbara’s other daughter still resides in Ohio.

Later on, Barbara divorced her first husband and met Kenneth Hale on December of 2005 in Florida.

Her and Kenneth later moved from Florida to Mesa, Arizona in July of 2007 and were married in Mesa, Arizona on May 1^st of 2009.

They have been very happily married for 7 years and together for a total of 11 very happy years.

Barbara is now with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Kenneth expects to see her soon as he is battling cancer which he is currently winning the fight.

Barbara will be missed by the people that she has touched in her life. As she was an Angel in the flesh and the best wife anyone could possibly want. There is not one person I know that has anything bad to say about her. She was a Diamond.

She is being cared for by Bunker Family Funeral Homes in Mesa Arizona 3529 E. University Dr. Services are for immediate family only.

Betty Joan Jackson LeBaron, a 46-year cancer survivor born March 20, 1933, lost her second battle with cancer and passed away peacefully on February 7, 2017. She joins husband, Robert W. (Bob) LeBaron, parents, Ivan & Dot Jackson, and brother, Robert D. Jackson.

An Accounting graduate of BYU, Betty was a tax accountant for nearly 50 years.  She was listed in the top ten tax preparers in Arizona for many years.

She is survived by children Betty Ruth Franklin (John), Bobbette LeBaron, Bari Lynn Simmons (Bob) and Bill LeBaron (Kathi Sue), nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great-grandsons and three step-great-grandsons.

Memorial services will Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 7 PM, preceded by a visitation from 5:30-6:45 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Maricopa Stake Center, 613 N. Stewart, Mesa AZ 85201.

Boyd Hill Hatch, husband, father and grandad, quietly passed from this life to join his eternal companion Joyce on February 1, 2017.

He was born August 22, 1926 in Taylor Arizona to Lorenzo John Hatch and Julia Wakefield. He was the seventh of ten children, and though this large family was raised in humble circumstances, his childhood was filled with fun, mischief, and love. Boyd spent those years running around with his brothers, hunting, fishing, playing ball and developing a strong sense of love and loyalty for family which motivated him his whole life.  At a young age he learned to work hard and continued to do so the rest of his life. He spent his teenage years working alongside his Dad doing plastering work and carpentry, and shearing sheep in Montana for many summers.

During WWII he served in the Philippines and as an MP stationed in Japan. On his return he attended Arizona State College, studying Physical Education and Construction. He excelled in basketball, and served as A.S.U.’s team captain his junior and senior years. Decades later he could still recall in detail a certain play he and his teammates ran against an opposing team. He eventually took his love of basketball on to the coaching level.

He became a Physical Education teacher and taught at both Scottsdale and Snowflake High School for over 30 years. He taught a great number of young people how to work hard, hone their skills, and to gain self-discipline.  He enjoyed coaching baseball and basketball for most of those years, the highlight of which was having the chance to coach his son Kirk. Their team went on to win the State Championship in 1982. That same year he was named Arizona’s coach of the year, and was later honored by Snowflake High School being named coach of the century.

Boyd was married to Priscilla Joyce Pursley who became his other half and together they raised seven children: Tony, Debbie, Brenda, Guy, Adele, Kirk and Becky, in the communities of Mesa and Snowflake. While he taught school, coached, and built homes in the summer, he still made time to spend with his family camping, hunting, and enjoying the mountains that he loved.

In his later years he and Joyce retired to their cabin in Pinedale. One of the many things he loved about being there was raising mules with his brother Gary at Long Ears Ranch. His talent for training animals was a gift; he could lay a horse down, talk a mule into almost anything, and had the gray squirrels coming to eat out of his hand. During these years he spent so much of his time giving and serving. He took grand kids under his wing, teaching them to work at his side and taking them riding and out roaming the woods.  He used his carpentry skills to build or renovate many people’s homes. He was a life-long cook, and scarcely a week went by without him baking a batch of pies and delivering them to family and friends all over the White Mountains. He was never happier than when he was doing something for others.

Boyd and Joyce were active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and enjoyed serving in the Snowflake Temple for many years. Boyd’s time at the temple was one of his greatest joys.

He is survived by his one remaining sister, Myrtle Reidhead, and his seven children, as well as 36 grandchildren and 78 great grandchildren, all of whom dearly love their Grand Dad Hatch.  We are so grateful for the constant loving care from daughters Adele and Debbie and son-in-law Kenneth Lewis and the many helping hands from the rest of the family.

We are grateful for the loving and gentle care of the Reflections Hospice workers, especially Jill and Amy, Lucy, Andrea, and Dr. Shirif.

Thank you Dad for all you taught us and especially your example the last couple of years of acceptance, submission, kindness and gratitude.

We love and miss you and Mom. We are grateful for the knowledge that someday we will be with you again.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1 PM, with a visitation at 11 AM,  at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pinedale Ward, 5150 Hwy 260, Clay Springs, Arizona. Interment will be at the Pinedale Cemetery, 5442 Center Street, Pinedale, Arizona.

Kenneth Paul McEntire, 69, passed away February 7, 2017 in Mesa, Arizona.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Sharon Merrill McEntire, daughter Kenna McEntire and her children McKayla, Nathan, Alyssa, and Brody, and also by his son John McEntire.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 17, 2017 at 11 AM, with visitation at 10 AM, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1050 S. Hobson, Mesa, AZ.

Gene Arling Ham, our loving father, brother, grandpa and friend, returned to his Heavenly Father on February 5, 2017. He was born January 2, 1935 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Arling W. Ham and Leola Hakanson Ham.

He is survived by his children Barbara Ham, Ricky & Mary Ham, Janice & Myron Dennison, Pamela Ham, Brian & Carrie Ham, Slade & Michelle Sherman, April & Jim Vlcek, Sharla & Tim Price, and Leah Sherman, his sisters Joy Rasmussen and Judy & Herb Janson, 42 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by L. Virginia Gastelum Ham, Angel & Thelma Alcay and Gloria & David Parmer.

He was preceded in death by his eternal companion, Connie Costner Sherman Ham and his children’s mother Beth Heaps Ham Ward.

Alfreda Thomas, 75, passed away January 28, 2017 in Chandler, Arizona.  A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, Arizona. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 8 AM at San Tan Baptist Church, 1473 Levee Road, Gila River Indian Community – District 4, Stotonic, Arizona. Interment will be at the Tamarack Cemetery, Sacaton, Arizona.

Dorothy “Dot” Beer, 88, of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2017.

She enjoyed baking, reading, traveling and volunteering at the library. Dot loved her dogs and valued their companionship. She is survived by her husband John, children Kim Paltz and John Michael, her sister Cathy Hutchison and 5 grandchildren. Memorial services are Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 1 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ.

A. Kent Carpenter, 91, passed away February 3, 2017 surrounded by loved ones at his home of 57 years in Mesa, Arizona.

Born in Central, Arizona on May 15, 1925, he was the second son of Lester Carpenter and Elizabeth Fuller, and a brother to Weston, Iva, Mary Lou, Bessie, Nellie and Rosealie. He was raised in Eden and Ashurst, Arizona and graduated high school from Fort Thomas High.

Kent was a WWII veteran, drafted into the Army after high school. He served in Germany as a combat infantryman in the 330^th Infantry and was part of the infantry liberating the Jews after the Battle of the Bulge. On April 10, 1945 he was wounded and was awarded the combat infantryman’s badge and the Purple Heart while in a hospital in Vittel, France and spent many months recovering in a California Army hospital.

Throughout his life Kent worked in construction, was employed with the U.S. Post Office, Sperry Rand, Motorola, and retired as the Chief Building Inspector for the City of Mesa.

On September 17, 1946 he married his sweetheart, Alice Nulton for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They were married for 60 years before her passing in 2007.

As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the gospel, service and missionary work, and his family were his priorities. He and Alice served in the Mesa Arizona Temple for seven years.

Family members describe him as generous, dedicated, honorable, patriotic, loyal and humorous. He loved country music, the guitar, Andy Griffith, ham radio, was a ‘Jack’ of all trades, and his wife, not necessarily in that order.

He was a dedicated father to his seven children, Stephen K. Carpenter (Sandi) of Mesa, AZ, Melvin J. Carpenter (Laura) of Mesa, AZ, Marie Meacham (Ed) of Ketchikan, AK, Elaine Hill (Ed) of Mesa, AZ., Stanley F. Carpenter (Allison) of Mesa, AZ., Leann Shelley (Norman) of Mesa, AZ, and Lori E. Carrillo (Andy) of Mesa, AZ. Thirty-three grandchildren were blessed to call him grandpa or papa. His legacy continues on thru his 34 great-grandchildren.

Kent was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, who was his best friend, and all his sisters except Bessie.

Funeral services are Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 10 AM, preceded by a visitation at 9 AM, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 613 N. Stewart St. in Mesa.
