Alan Smith Lee
03/06/1945 - 10/10/2025

Alan Smith Lee passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 6, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ruel and Gloria Lee. Alan grew up surrounded by the love of his parents, grandparents, and siblings, developing an enduring appreciation for simple circumstances, hard work, and faith—values that would guide him throughout his life.

Alan attended Granite High School, where he played football under Coach LaVell Edwards and earned a spot on the varsity team all four years. Following graduation, he briefly attended the University of Utah and worked at Alta Ski Resort. Soon after, Alan chose to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was set apart by his great-uncle, Harold B. Lee. He faithfully served in the Eastern Atlantic States Mission, where he met his future wife, Leslie Kay Grampp.

After returning home from his mission, Alan and Leslie reconnected while attending Brigham Young University, where Alan studied Business Communications and served in the Utah Army National Guard. During his time at BYU, he formed lifelong friendships and strengthened the values that would guide him throughout his life. Alan and Leslie were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 29, 1968, and welcomed their first son, Carter, in early 1970.

After graduating from BYU, Alan and Leslie moved to Virginia, where Alan began his career in Washington, D.C., as they started their family and built lasting memories together. His first position was with the Robert Mullen Company, a public relations firm led by future U.S. Senator Bob Bennett. He later worked for Senator Wallace F. Bennett, and eventually for President Gerald Ford in Washington, D.C., serving as an Advance Man—a trusted role within the Ford Administration. While living in Virginia, they welcomed their second son, Clayton, in 1972.

Eventually, Alan and Leslie made the long journey west to Tucson, Arizona, where Alan built a successful career in banking where he worked for Western Savings & Loan as a branch manager. While in Tucson, they welcomed their first daughter, Chelsea, in 1976. The family later settled in Mesa, Arizona, where Alan continued his work in banking before transitioning into real estate. In 1981, they welcomed fraternal twins, Cameron and Cassidy, and made Mesa their lifelong home, raising their family and establishing deep roots in the community. Alongside his professional pursuits, Alan also shared his expertise as an adjunct professor at several local colleges.

Beyond his many accomplishments, Alan found his greatest joy in time spent with family—working on projects around the house, golfing with friends, sharing stories, and supporting his children and grandchildren in their many pursuits.

Alan will be remembered for his quick wit, tireless work ethic, and generosity. He showed his love through action—always ready to lend a hand or offer support at family gatherings and milestones.

He is survived by his children Carter (Sandra), Clayton (Robin), Chelsea (Brian), and Cassidy; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and siblings Rita (Randy) and Brent (Elaine). He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Leslie; son, Cameron; parents; and brother, Jerry.

A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3025 S. Hawes Rd., Mesa, AZ 85212, on Tuesday, October 29. A viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the service at 10:00 a.m.

Edward Alvin Sproul Jr., also known as Peter, (age 66) unexpectedly passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 16th, 2025.

He was born November 10, 1958 in Denver, Colorado and resided in Mesa, AZ before his death.

He was a loving father to Edward Alvin Sproul III, Shannon Boyd, and Heather Larson. He was a beloved grandpa to his 8 grandchildren; Brigg, Brooke, Nolan, Smith, Ezra, Quinn, Ethan, and Kaylee.

Peter was a locksmith for over 35 years and never allowed being “shortened by a foot” at the age of 21 to slow him down. He grew up in a house full of sisters and loved providing continuous entertainment, love and support. He had fond memories of his time living on a sailboat in Marina Del Rey and in his later years spending time with his grandchildren and playing Bingo weekly.

He was a companion to Joyce Sproul and will be missed dearly. He will be remembered as someone who showed love unconditionally, valued honesty and truth, and was a constant confidant to his children.

The grief we feel with his absence only shows the love we felt from him during his time on Earth, which his family will forever be grateful for.

A celebration of life will be held in his honor with close family and friends. We thank those for their outpouring of love during this difficult time.

Marlene Wade Lyons
September 27, 1933 - October 15, 2025

Marlene Wade Lyons, 92, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025.   Born on September 27, 1933, in Ogden, Utah, Marlene dedicated her life to her family and her faith, and she was loved by all who knew her.

Marlene was raised on a farm in Pleasant View, Utah. She milked cows, excelled in school, went to church weekly, and lived a happy childhood surrounded by a loving family and friends.

Marlene had a love and incredible talent for music.  As a teenager, she sang with her sisters, once coming in first place—to the Osmond Brothers’ second—in a competition..  She sang tenor for the Harmonettes, an a capella quartet that performed at church, fairs, and on the radio.  Marlene wrote and produced several award-winning roadshows for her congregations in Scottsdale and  Mesa. Well into her 80’s, Marlene wrote special songs for children. Her love of music brought great joy not just to her, but to those fortunate enough to hear her sing, play the piano, and produce musicals.

It was music that brought her together with the love of her life, John Lyons. They met while Marlene was working in music production at the Grand Canyon’s North Rim. They settled in Arizona, where Marlene put John through law school.  She spent her adult life devoted to John and to raising their three children.  She taught them her love of music, devotion to others, and most of all, love for the Savior.

A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Marlene served in many church callings. From 1991 to 1994, Marlene and John served together as mission leaders in the Philippines San Fernando Mission. Their missionaries loved her, and she loved them, and this was reflected in the visits from those missionaries that continued for decades after their service ended. Aside from church service, Marlene spent countless hours caring for friends, making crafts, sending cards, preparing meals, and in endless devotion to uplifting others.

Marlene is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; parents, Mac and Fay Wade; brother, Kent; and sister, Patricia Soni. Marlene is survived by her sisters, Jeri Kap and Dyan Ellebracht; her children, Michael (Shari), Suzanne Rauch (Jim), and Richard; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 25th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1150 E. Guadalupe, Gilbert, AZ 85234. A viewing will be held from 9AM to 11AM with a service at 11:30AM.

Helen Ruth Daugherty Ervin
07/03/1932 - 10/10/2025

On October 10, 2025, our matriarch Helen Ruth Daugherty Ervin passed from this earthly life at the age of 93.  She was raised in Tellico Plains, Tennessee. She married our father Vernon Lee Ervin in August, 1951.  Helen proved to be both a devoted wife and  mother for her entire life.  She followed dad wherever she could during over 20 years of military service. Helen and Vernon started their military life in Alameda, CA.  Dad spent 24 of the first 36 months of their marriage out at sea with the Navy as she adjusted to new challenges of being away and by herself. She epitomized the role of military wife and mother in places around the world such as Taiwan and Italy, as well as several stateside locations.   Wherever dad would be assigned, we would follow.  No matter where we moved, it was always mom who would set up the house, manage the bills, sew our clothes, cook every meal, and make us feel safe and loved.  Mom ALWAYS maintained a spotless home, and was known for her ability to seek out the real bargains at garage sales and thrift shops, she was a master baker and decorator.  She was supportive in every way you would hope a mother might be.  Her role as a military wife was concluded in 1972 when dad retired from the Air Force.  From that point, they brought us to Mesa, Arizona, where she remained for the rest of her life.  In retirement years while they were healthy, Mom and Dad would leave the scorching Arizona summers in their fifth-wheel trailer to discover new places of grandeur throughout the United States.  Her biggest heartache of life was enduring the passing of our brother Mike at the age of six.  Regardless, she always exuded the strength and faith of one who emphasized the right way to hold together a household. She is survived by her son Mark (wife Ira) and daughter Pam (husband Fred), along with 5 grandchildren Anthony, Nicholas (wife Aline), Andrew (wife Jesenya), Stephen and Christopher), 4 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

A graveside service at the Mesa Cemetery, October 21, Tuesday at 11 AM as well a Facebook live broadcast from Ira.  Please contact Ira, Pam, or Mark for details about a time that will be scheduled soon.

Mom, it is hard to say goodbye, but you excelled in meeting every challenge that came your way. You already are in the hands of God and we will join you soon.
