At five feet two inches tall, Erma made up for her small stature with a sassy disposition and sense of humor. She was always in her element when there was someone to quip or joke around with.
Erma was born on October 17, 1920, in Woodruff, Arizona, before the small town had electricity or running water. As the second of eight children born to Harold Reidhead Fish and Ellen Hatch, she helped care for her younger siblings and especially enjoyed mothering her youngest sisters, Carol and Lorraine.
As a member of a large family living during the Great Depression, Erma was resourceful and sewed her and her younger sisters’ clothes, a skill that would serve her well when raising her own family. In addition to being a talented seamstress, she was a remarkable crocheter, knitter and tatter (lace).
Music brought great joy throughout Erma’s life! Entertainment in the Fish home consisted of everyone gathering around the piano, Erma’s father playing the violin or another instrument, and lots of singing. She learned to play the piano at a young age from her Aunt Mary and became an exceptional pianist and organist.
She played for her church congregation throughout her life, even after the age of 100. She would often tell others that most musicians can play a song technically, but not all played with feeling as she did. Her love of music endures as she taught several of her grandchildren to play the piano, who then taught their children and now her great-granddaughter teaches her siblings and cousins.
Erma married Warren Oliver Bodine in the Mesa Arizona Temple on November 20, 1940. She and Warren raised six children: Mary Ellen (Bo), Jerry, Robert (Bob), Norma (Nonie), William (Butch) and Jon. She often said that her happiest time in life was when all her children were living at home.
Erma loved babies! She insisted on holding them and would light up whenever a baby was around. She also crocheted or knitted countless legacy blessing dresses, onesies and blankets for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A highlight of Erma’s life was traveling with Warren. Their adventures took them to Europe multiple times and to Hong Kong and Mexico. She also loved all things miniature and at one time in her life built a Victorian doll house complete with furnishings. She was also a prolific craft painter in the mediums of ceramics, plaster craft and wood. For many years she painted Christmas ornaments for her children and grandchildren to cherish.
When her youngest children were in high school, Erma worked as a decorator in JC Penney’s drapery department. She found enjoyment helping people furnish their homes with traditional and unique window treatments.
Following Warren’s untimely death in 1980, Erma became actively involved in the Latter-day Saint Special Interest (SI) Program for older adults and attended events, dances and conferences. It was at a SI dance that she met fellow musician Clare Wheeler Oliphant. They were married in August 1983. She and Clare hosted sing-a-longs, crafted together, traveled in their fifth wheel RV and found loving companionship with each other for nearly 15 years prior to Clare’s death in 1998.
During her nearly 105 years, Erma saw many changes in the world. However, one constant was her life-long devotion to Jesus as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Even with the debilitating effects of dementia, she attended church regularly and never forgot to vocally express appreciation for her blessings in her evening prayers.
Erma passed away on September 26, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona. Her family is confident she is rejoicing to be reunited with her husband Warren, son Bob, infant son James (Jimmy), parents, siblings, granddaughter Nicolle Bodine Rowley, great-grandson Mason Rowley, and aunts and uncles. Her surviving posterity includes her children; Mary Ellen Kerr (Bob, deceased), Jerry (Netina), daughter-in-law Diane, Nonie Lee (John), William (Delynn) and Jon (Kendra), 25 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Erma’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her many friends, neighbors, and caregivers who supported her with such kindness in her later years. She found joy in the company of others, and your love and care truly enriched her life.

Elmo Carling Whetten passed away peacefully in the early hours of September 28, 2025. He had followed the prophets of God his whole life, and continued to follow the prophet, President Nelson… right up to heaven! (He passed away just hours after President Nelson) Carl, as most people knew him, was born July 5, 1925 and turned 100 years old just a few months ago. He loved telling people that he was 100 years old. He looked forward to his birthday and the party he would have. He thoroughly enjoyed that last celebration with family and friends.
Carl was the youngest of 10 children born to Martha Elizabeth Carling and the youngest of 23 children born to John Amasa Whetten. His mother passed away just two weeks after he was born. What a sweet reunion they must have had at Carl’s passing. He was raised by his father, sweet Ida whom he lovingly called “Mama,” and a host of brothers and sisters. He was born in Colonia Chuichupa, Chihuahua, Mexico but remembers his days as a child living in Colonia Juarez and the ranch nearby. He met his wife Viva Cluff during high school in Colonia Juarez, and they were married on September 12, 1945. They celebrated 79 years of marriage just before she passed away, one year and four days before him.
He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan at the end of World War II. Even at the end of his life, he would say “gracias” and “arigato” when telling someone “thank you,” using both of the languages he had learned in his younger years. Carl and Viva were the parents of nine children, seven sons and two daughters. With that many boys, Carl always felt like it was important to keep them busy so he provided for his family by being a farmer and dairy farmer. Life on the farm meant there were always plenty of chores for his children to do. He was so proud of the fact that his children knew how to work. This career also gave Carl the flexibility to be a Spanish temple worker in the Mesa, Arizona temple for 17 years. He helped with the Spanish temple excursions that came from Mexico and Central America because Mesa was the closest temple and provided the ordinances in Spanish.
Carl and Viva and their family lived in Colorado, Arizona, and Texas, but somehow always kept returning to the Phoenix valley. They retired in Mesa and he lived there until his passing. Carl always felt like his mission in later life was to help his wife write ten family history books. He loved his family and his Savior Jesus Christ. Even in the last few months of his life, he would take the opportunity to share the gospel and invite those at his care facility to come to church with him.
Carl is survived by his children Kenny (Pam), LeRoy (Irene), Clarence (LeeAnn), Annette Haws (Kayle), Rex (Dorothy), Amanda Schoof (Larry), Ross (Susan), and Andrew (Jennifer). Carl also has 49 grandchildren, 93 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Viva, his son Dorel (but we still have Janet), two grandchildren, one great grandchild, his parents, and all of his siblings. Carl loved to “visit.” What a happy reunion he is having “visiting” with them all! Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 at the Fiesta Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 616 S. Extension Rd., Mesa, AZ. There will be a viewing at 9:00 a.m. followed by the funeral at 10:00 a.m. Those not able to attend may watch the service on Zoom at: https://zoom.us/j/91721752573?pwd=TUCoakifAQgBCcZzrVZsoU1D4KVmEY.1

In Loving Memory of Karl Patrick Watkins
June 2, 1946 – September 27, 2025
Karl Patrick Watkins (79) passed away peacefully at home on September 27, 2025, following a brief fight with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John and Alice Watkins, Karl moved to Mesa, Arizona, within his first year of life. He grew up in what is now considered old Mesa and attended Mesa High School. He eventually took over the family business, Watkins Oil.
Karl experienced both deep sorrow and great joy. His first child, Johnny, passed away in infancy. Not long after, at the age of 19, he met and married Beverly. They had a daughter, Liz, who became the light of Karl’s life.
At 21, Karl joined the Dirty Dozen motorcycle club. While he loved working on bikes, it was the camaraderie and brotherhood that meant the most to him. These lifelong friends helped him build the family home where they lived for 18 years.
On February 22, 1982, when his daughter Liz was in a devastating accident, Karl’s life changed forever. From that moment on, he devoted his time and energy to her care with quiet strength and unwavering love.
A man of few words but deep presence, Karl influenced those around him not just with what he said—but with how he lived. His family learned by watching: how to be strong, how to be steady, and how to show up when it matters. He was a quiet problem-solver and a dependable presence in the lives of all who knew him.
Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and John Watkins; his siblings, Norma (Watkins) Pavich and Dale Carroll Watkins; and his son, John Hatch Watkins.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly Watkins, his daughter Elizabeth Watkins, and his sister Aurelia Fuller.

Robert Amedee L’Ecuyer (1934-2025)
Robert Amedee L’Ecuyer, 90, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of public service, family devotion, and scholarly pursuit that spanned nearly nine decades.
Born December 16, 1934, in Greenleaf, Kansas, Bob was the son of Hero Kermit Zeno “H.K.” L’Ecuyer and Cletta Valley Shepherd L’Ecuyer. His early years were marked by frequent moves as his father pursued advanced education at Harvard Business School and teaching positions, taking the family from Kansas to Massachusetts, Ontario, Texas, and New Jersey before settling in Lawrence, Kansas.
Bob’s intellectual curiosity emerged early. A voracious reader from age three, he completed high school at 16 and attended the University of Kansas, where he served as fraternity president and met his first wife, Barbara. After military basic training and service in the Army Reserves, he moved his family from Kansas to Tucson, Arizona. There, he served in the National Guard, worked in the tire business and returned to school, earning his law degree from the University of Arizona. That marked the start of a distinguished career combining law and politics.
For over four decades, Bob served as a behind-the-scenes force in Arizona politics, working with governors, congressmen, and senators from both parties. He notably served on staff to Congressman Bob Stump and worked with local political luminaries including Governor Sam Goddard, Burton Barr, Jane Hull, Bob Usdane, and Alfredo Gutierrez. His ability to bridge partisan divides and build coalitions earned him respect across the political spectrum.
Bob was married twice: first to Barbara, with whom he raised five children—Jeanine, Larry, Paul, Julie, and Anne—and later to Claudelle, his beloved companion in travel, church life, and genealogical research. Together with her children and loving extended family, they explored 49 states and multiple countries, building extensive family histories that became his passionate retirement pursuit.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bob found great meaning in genealogical work, believing it connected him to both ancestors and descendants. His meticulous research spanned centuries and continents, preserving family stories for future generations. He appreciated the influence of many faith traditions in the development of his spiritual life.
Robert Amedee L’Ecuyer is survived by his children, Jeanine L’Ecuyer (Mike Set), Larry L’Ecuyer, Julie Conway (Kerry), and Anne L’Ecuyer (Louise Godley), and stepchildren Victoria Walker (Grant) and Richard Bailey (Kim). His 64 grand, great, and great-great grandchildren gave him immense joy and pride. He is reunited in heaven with his wife, Claudelle Thompson Bailey L’Ecuyer, son Paul Amedee L’Ecuyer, his parents Cletta and Hero L’Ecuyer, stepmother Mildred L’Ecuyer, sister Sally Smith, brother David Nelson, and many more beloved ancestors.
Kristin Kay Teeples, 63, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona.
Krissy was born in Phoenix, Arizona to loving parents, Sue and Reid Teeples, who preceded her in death. Her four older sisters – Cindy Goodman (Steve), Pauly Berrey (David), Laurie Emelity (Mick) and Nancy Hatch (Randy) – lovingly cared for her these past 15 years.
She was a peacemaker and angel in our family and will be missed by her many nieces and nephews and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Krissy loved bowling, dancing and swimming in her earlier years. She will be remembered for her Christlike qualities of patience, forgiveness and her angelic smile. We’ll fondly remember her telling each of us that, “You’re my favorite” and smile as we think of her often repeated saying, “I like everything.” Truly, she was without guile and the biggest blessing and bonding force in our family.
Our family is so grateful to Aegis hospice and the wonderful nurses who so lovingly cared for her these past couple of years.
Though her passing has left an empty space in our hearts, we know she is rejoicing with our parents and Savior Jesus Christ as they are reunited once again.
